Marcus Ray is da MAN. 'Nuff said. More of him PLEASE.

He's great with Sam Webb and he was very unbiased and poised today.
Great person and no one deserves it more.

Game Ball to Marcus Ray!
Highlight was barbing Braydon about not going across the middle

hope to see Braylon in the booth someday as well
September 13th, 2014 at 7:33 PM ^
He's articulate, knows the game, and is a generally decent looking dude. Those seem to be the prerequisite qualities these days.
September 13th, 2014 at 6:50 PM ^
Enjoyed him a lot. Since he is from Michigan he can say critical things without people getting offended. He was honest and fair. Hope he does a lot of our games. Think he could be a very good analyst long term too i.e. go to a major network if he gets a knowledge of other teams anywhere near to ours.

I was about to make this thread.
He did an AMAZING job, can't upvote this enough. BTN better be careful because ESPN will scoop him up in a heartbeat. He's already the best BTN has and better than anything on ESPN2.
And I say this with such excitement because I thought he was AWFUL when he first started...not just "learning" but I thought he was really, really bad.
Just as bad as I thought he was when get began, I thought he was that great today. From beginning to end I thought he nailed it. Definitely the best on BTN.
Awesome job!

Because he did a great job pointing out some of the stuff that Michigan fans would know. But what I loved was just him sharing his knowledge of the game and calling out matchups and coverages before they happen. That's what Gruden does.
If you like MGoBlog...you like to talk about learn about football.
I felt like Ray was pointing things out to me that I wasn't seeing right away. Zero coverage, they're in man up top, etc. He was tipping blitzes, he called Mattison out for not disgusing well enough (which we've been saying for 2 years). He called the scissors route to Butt. He was especially technical in the DB area for both teams.
It was wonderful to listen to. He was funny enough at times, he was serious at the right time...he wasn't overbearing or trying to make a name or brand for himself. He was just talking football.
I'll eat that up any day of the week. Great job.

Agreed on all points. He did a very nice job today.

Marcus > Galloway > Pam Mowins
September 13th, 2014 at 6:59 PM ^
Ware...and the Mike Patrick/Ed Cunningham combo.
He's literally better than at least 50% of ESPN right now and better than all of BTN.
IMO, he could do just fine with a 3:30 ESPN game or replacing the buffoons they have at 12pm on ESPN or just about all day on ESPN2.
If I'm BTN, I let him do these Michigan games and local stuff this year and put him as a primetime announcer for ALL BTN games next year. And get him a better play-by-play guy.
September 13th, 2014 at 7:02 PM ^
Play-by-play announcer Pam Mowins was okay (except for misidentifying the Michigan Union as "Union Hall"); Joey Galloway was flat-out terrible.

I skipped over the first name completely; of course it was Beth. Thanks.

Nice to hear intelligent, thoughtful commentary. Less Joey Galloway and more people who aren't insufferable.

The announcers didn't annoy me once. Great job.

He was fairly balanced throughout the game, and he did not hesitate to point out Miami's good plays. Marcus is an immeasurable upgrade over Collins' normal partner, Derrick Rackley.

He was a class act and I got to wear his championship ring. Awesome...

plan out the sequence of announcements and handoffs that were going to be used. Felt like I was watching Groundhog Day when the broadcast really started.
The fisheye picture of the stadium at the start was great as well.

I was very pleasantly surprised.

It was probably the best part of the game for me. It brought back memories of those tough UM teams. He wasn't blatantly homerish. He showed great knowledge of the game from all aspects. He was on top of the action while providing filler as needed. He was critical without it being token negativity. Overall, great great start for him. Really proud of him. :)
The bit with Braylon was great too. I always thought Braylon had one of those personas made for TV or maybe its just "diva-ish" WRs that all seem that way. I hope he gets a shot in TV too.

September 13th, 2014 at 8:51 PM ^
How was Braylon embarrassing?
I also thought Marcus did great. He should do all our games on BTN.
September 13th, 2014 at 9:18 PM ^
The biggest takeaway for me was that he wanted to get into media and that thinking about it, he definitely has an appealing voice for that type of work. I know his name recognition comes with some negative connotation as well, but he's pretty well known in the football world. Hope he can make a go of it.
September 14th, 2014 at 1:03 AM ^
I think he'd do best in a studio show, where his face was on TV. My wife: "who is that? That's Braylon Edwards? That was the dude who would show up at Rick's in sunglasses and be a cocky asshole?....He's really handsome."
I'M SITTING RIGHT HERE!!

And Marcus Ray is related to this issue in what way? Oh, yeah...as BTN analyst, he should've been on top of this faux pas and publicly lashed those foolish students.
[Seriously, though. This is at least the 3rd thread I've seen this comment. Someone's a little miffed about the wave.]
September 13th, 2014 at 7:49 PM ^
Marcus can still beat 'Dre Weathers in a race.

Marcus Ray outdoing Joey Galloway?
Must be the 1990's all over again.

He's easily the best color guy BTN has and better than a lot of ESPN's as well.
