Beating Alabama
I was in Arlington in 2012. I do not remember the final score but we got our asses kicked. I spent most of the time looking at the artwork in Jerry Jones's fabulous stadium. The Alabama fans were very respectful and confident. And I told my wife after the game that it would be years before we caught up to their level. I didn't think it would be this long but we finally did it. It was a long long wait. BUT WORTH IT! This is our time now. GO BLUE!

Took a spell, but Michigan football got there.

Beat Bama!
I was at that game as well. I got to hang out with my brother.

I was at that game too. Brady Hoke was coming off an 11-2 season, and there was some hope that he was the “answer”. I knew after that game he wasn’t. Michigan didn’t have the talent, but it was also obvious that Michigan wasn’t well coached.

We scored first. Otherwise it was an ass kicking. Was there too.
January 2nd, 2024 at 12:02 AM ^
We absolutely did not score first. We were down 31-0 in that game before we scored a couple of tds to make it look closer than it was
January 2nd, 2024 at 12:14 AM ^
You are, of course, right. Not sure what I was thinking.
January 2nd, 2024 at 12:32 AM ^
Maybe the Citrus Bowl in 2020? It was close early. Michigan was up 10-7 after the first, but Alabama scored first in that game too.

Times have changed
Per Mike Barrett:
"We are in the ass kicking business and business is good!"

Ugh…don’t bring up 2012. That game never should have been scheduled. If you’re going to relive a former Bama game, bring up the Orange Bowl with Tom Brady. Or John Kolesar catching the game winner on 4th down.
January 1st, 2024 at 11:49 PM ^
Or Blake Corum running for the game winner in overtime.

I love you man you are my favorite poster. But unless you were there in 2012, there's no way you can understand the meaning of this victory. So so happy.
January 2nd, 2024 at 12:13 AM ^
You weren't there. That's why this game has so much more meaning.
January 1st, 2024 at 11:50 PM ^
You would think Michigan wasn't the #1 team in the country and favored by Vegas in the game or that Alabama hadn't struggled with bad teams all year, including barely escaping the Iron Bowl thanks to an epic collapse by Auburn.
Yeah, I'll never stop shaking my head at the entirety of the CFB pundits and the ass clown Big Ten coaches who all said we would suck. Allegedly we got pushed around by the Indiana D-line, remember? Idiots.

Every year is different, but if any team deserves the benefit of the doubt, it's a Saban coached Bama team over the past 15 years; And to some degree a Kirby coached Georgia team over the past 5 years.
The SEC dick riding is exhausting, but looking at the BCS and playoff era the SEC has been the conference of national titles.
January 2nd, 2024 at 12:07 AM ^
Until proven otherwise, the SEC should get the benefit of the doubt.
Well, we just proved otherwise.
January 2nd, 2024 at 8:20 AM ^
We sure did!
January 1st, 2024 at 11:55 PM ^
That game in 2012 sucked.
It took awhile, but this win more than offsets it.
January 1st, 2024 at 11:55 PM ^
I was at the Citrus Bowl a few years ago. I have a photo of the scoreboard after the first quarter and the half to prove that Michigan was ahead at some point.
January 2nd, 2024 at 1:00 AM ^
M led at the half 16. - 14.

That was a peak Bama squad. UM looked like a HS team next to them, as did ND in the title game.
This team was beatable and Michigan pulled it out. Wasn't always pretty but they matched up much better this time. Bama still had a decided advantage on raw athletes but that isn't everything.
I'm still riding a high.
January 1st, 2024 at 11:56 PM ^
Now that UM has defeated Bama, UM is 3-3 overall vs Bama.
There are only two college football teams UM has played 5 or more times that have a winning record vs Michigan. One of them you can deduce. The other...you aint guessing it. You wont find it unless you google it. (I googled it. Duh.)

I'd guess USC and Washington.

Cornell. No Google.

USC and University of Chicago
No I didn't Google it. Hopefully we will have a positive winning record against USC soon. The University of Chicago kept their lead because they abolished their football program.

Time for Saban's reign to end and Harbaugh's to begin.

Sign the contract and let The Fuckening begin.

It was worth the wait!!

There's another timeline where Matt Campbell has just logged his second 8 win season and we're arguing about if they're showing progress.
So, we do not live in the darkest timeline.
January 2nd, 2024 at 12:19 AM ^
When you beat Alabama, you beat the entire SEC.
January 2nd, 2024 at 12:32 AM ^
Except Mizzou this year. They did a solid by stomping on the corpse of Ryan Day’s program. “Wanna go see a dead body”?
January 2nd, 2024 at 12:29 AM ^
interesting to hear the radio calls of the key OT plays by both sides. You can hear the despair in the Alabama PbP guys voice as Corum shreds. And the jubilation from Jansen at the end, glorious.
January 2nd, 2024 at 12:48 AM ^
It felt awesome to send them home.
January 2nd, 2024 at 1:30 AM ^
I watched that game in a room that consisted of an Ohio State fan that told me “well, Bama is my second team”….im currently thinking about that guy and smiling
January 2nd, 2024 at 1:32 AM ^
Some of their fans were such overconfident loudmouth D-bags in the first half. Talked a ton of shit in the concourse.
So glad we shut them up along with all the other haters.
January 2nd, 2024 at 9:47 AM ^
As soon as I got through the gate heading to my seat I heard an Alabama fan say loudly, “Michigan does not scare me at all. No Big Ten team scares me for even a minute.”
January 2nd, 2024 at 2:19 AM ^
the reaction to the finish by Duncan Robinson sitting court side in an empty arena with teammates. “Wooooh yeah! Let’s Go! They are who we thought they were”!
January 2nd, 2024 at 2:31 AM ^
That was a tough game to watch. I also very clearly remember not remembering that final score.
Much preferred tonight’s game over that one.
January 2nd, 2024 at 2:39 AM ^
Interesting how soon after NIL the playing field evens.
Queue up Dabo, Day, Saban and Kirby lectures about “sanctity of amateurism”…
January 2nd, 2024 at 3:36 AM ^
We sat by a majority of Bama fans. All the Bama fans were nice except a few. The Alabama fans apologized for the couple assholes. But overall great experience. Felt like a heavy weight fight.

There was nothing worth remembering about that game in 2012. It was pretty clear from the first snap that Michigan was going to get out-classed. If you go back and watch that first series, Michigan did happen to force a three and out, but on the first snap, Alabama absolutely blew Michigan’s DL off the LOS. Easily forced them back a couple of yards.
There was such a massive talent, gap that night, and a probably even bigger coaching gap. For a long time after that game, especially into the Harbaugh years, I was fairly convinced that Michigan just had a ceiling which was lower than that of an Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, or Ohio State. That it didn’t have the “whatever it takes, kill or be killed” mindset that you need in order to win at the highest level.
