FSU down to QB3?!?!
QB2 got concussed last week, is a gametime decision for tmr. QB3 is deer in headlights.
Its all over the news, I went with the non-ESPN local link.
FSU trying to make the Committee's job easy.
December 1st, 2023 at 3:38 PM ^
Buckeye fans are licking their chops right now.......
December 1st, 2023 at 3:44 PM ^
They need more help than that.
December 1st, 2023 at 3:52 PM ^
I'm not convinced of that.
Oregon or Washington is in - has no bearing on OSU.
FSU loses and I think OSU is in the catbird seat.
December 1st, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
Not over Texas. Especially if Bama beats Georgia.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:07 PM ^
Even if Georgia wins. A conference champion Texas is going to get in over Ohio State who did not even win its division.
But Texas has to win now. I know what I'll be watching at 12:00 tomorow.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:20 PM ^
Agreed, Texas is first in if FSU loses.
Oregon is also in if they beat Washington.
No room for the Suckeyes in the Top 4 if the above happens.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:54 PM ^
One loss conference champs will move ahead.
They earned through the extra game.
And why reward a team that got beaten and then was able to sit out an extra weak and heal?
December 1st, 2023 at 6:00 PM ^
Any number of 12 - 1 conference champs will get in before an 11 - 1 second place team.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:32 PM ^
Yeah, it's not like last year where there's one team between OSU and the playoffs; they've got to see FSU lose, Texas, lose, and Alabama to lose before they're in the conversation, and then we're still arguing about 1-loss teams comparing resumes.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:54 PM ^
OSU would also end up a one-loss team with one less win than other one loss teams.
December 1st, 2023 at 6:18 PM ^
OSU also got help last year during Rivalry Week with South Carolina beating one-loss Clemson. Nothing went the Buckeyes way last weekend.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:33 PM ^
FSU loses and I think OSU is in the catbird seat.
The only way ohio state makes it into the CFP is chaos.
- I'm assuming Michigan wins - UM losing by far the most unlikely scenario. But osu wants Michigan to lose for reasons but also because they might could possibly jump 12-1 Michigan (not really, but insert Dumb and Dumber meme here).
- ohio state really wants Washington to win, as 12-1 UW could potentially end up ahead of 11-1 osu in the rankings.
- UGA has to win which eliminates Bama b/c UGA losing sees Alabama jumping ohio state and 12-1 UGA probably stays ahead of 11-1 ohio st.
That's 3 slots set and osu would be looking at that 4th slot.
- Texas has to lose. If UT wins, a 12-1 conference champ definitely jumps ohio state in the rankings and likely ends up in the CFP.
In summary, if I'm a buckeye, I need Washington to win, UGA to win, Texas to lose, and FSU to lose. Michigan losing still probably has them ahead of the buckeyes, but I'm sure they'd just love to see it anyway.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:39 PM ^
It would have to be utter chaos for OSU to get in. The following individual game scenarios likely trump OSU
- Michigan win
- Georgia win
- FSU win
- Texas win
- Washington win
- Oregon win
- Washington close loss
- Alabama win
- Georgia loss
- Michigan close loss
So basically SEC/PAC 12 get at least 2 spots over OSU and M might also get preference over OSU if Texas/FSU both loss
If Georgia wins and all of FSU/Texas/Oregon/Michigan lose, I guess there is a possibility, but OSU isn't passing Texas if they win, nor either Bama/Georgia if Bama wins
December 1st, 2023 at 4:42 PM ^
Sorry, but this is flat wrong.
December 1st, 2023 at 5:28 PM ^
Fan Duel is still offering 18-1 on OSU making the playoffs. FSU is only favored by 1.5, so they are not the only team blocking OSU's path. They also need Texas to lose and Bama to lose. They still might not get in if Washington loses a close game.
December 1st, 2023 at 3:48 PM ^
If Texas wins, it doesn't matter. A 12-1 conference champion that also beat Alabama on the road is going to leapfrog an 11-1 team sitting on the couch this weekend, with its best win being an ugly win at home against a good but not great Penn State team.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:09 PM ^
The bigger question is would a 1-loss Georgia get in over a 1-loss OSU?
December 1st, 2023 at 4:20 PM ^
It's still not guaranteed that OSU gets in over a 12-1 Washington with a top 5 win over Oregon.
December 1st, 2023 at 5:18 PM ^
Yeah, OSU is rooting for either Washington to win or get blown out. If Washington loses close, against a team it already beat, in an extra game that OSU didn't have to play, they'd have a good argument. (Though OSU always seems to get benefit of the doubt in this situation.)
December 1st, 2023 at 4:34 PM ^
I think a 1 loss Washington or a 1 loss Georgia get in over a one loss team that spent the weekend on the couch.
That logic doesn't apply to FSU because of the QB issue, and because their one loss would be a team demonstrably worse than Alabama or Oregon.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:38 PM ^
How would a 11-1 OSU that is sitting at home this weekend get in over a 12-1 UGA that played in the SEC championship game (and is also the defending national champ)? 11W might be able to figure out some mental gymnastics to justify it, but there is no way the committee would do that.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:34 PM ^
If Texas wins, we’re in the clear.
December 1st, 2023 at 3:38 PM ^
Still very hard to leave out an undefeated conference champ. Committee might do so if Bama beats Georgia and Texas/Washington/UM win to avoid shutting out the SEC.
December 1st, 2023 at 3:43 PM ^
The QB2 will definitely be back in time for the CFP, so I doubt it affects the decision that much. Might even give the committee some cover to include FSU if they win ugly. If they win, they're in.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:18 PM ^
Gasp...they cannot dare shut out the SEC, because, of course it just means more...
ESPN would never let that happen. Watch for the lobbying this weekend.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:34 PM ^
If that SEC lobbying keeps OSU out I'm all for it
December 1st, 2023 at 3:40 PM ^
Go Texas.
December 1st, 2023 at 3:41 PM ^
I just picture Ramzy and the 11W crew calling Brock Glenn "Ohio State's 12th Man"
December 1st, 2023 at 3:42 PM ^
Sounds like typical coaching injury report shenanigans. He'll play.
December 1st, 2023 at 3:42 PM ^
Reminds me of the 49ers in the NFC championship game last year. I have no love for FSU, but I I do feel for those players, that is a tough place to be.
December 1st, 2023 at 3:44 PM ^
Might be an unpopular opinion but barring an undefeated team from the playoff in favor of teams who have losses is actually insane.
Teams number one objective is to win games. FSU can't control the composition of talented teams on their schedule in a given year, but Texas, Bama, and Oregon could have won their games.
December 1st, 2023 at 3:51 PM ^
They win and they are in. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs their head examined.
Now, if they lose, who knows. 4 0 or 1 loss conference champs for 4 spots leaves them likely to be out.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:18 PM ^
I also think it's fair to say that the reason FSU is undefeated broke his leg two weeks ago...while they were down TWO SCORES TO A 3-7FCS TEAM IN THE SECOND QUARTER. FSU's viability in the CFP is totally fair to question without Travis. If Bama beats UGA and there's chalk elsewhere, they will be left out.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:46 PM ^
Counterpoint, Cardale Jones.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:49 PM ^
If FSU goes out there tomorrow and wins 59-0, then they have nothing to worry about. People forget that Cardale and OSU absolutely crushed #3 Wisconsin in the B1G title game to erase any concerns about them.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:50 PM ^
Why would it matter what the score was in THE SECOND QUARTER?
December 1st, 2023 at 6:21 PM ^
Exactly! They were up by two scores by the end of the second quarter, and won that game 58-13. The fact that they scored 58 points in three quarters with their backup quarteback is actually an argument in FSU's favor (even while admitting the weak competition).
December 1st, 2023 at 3:45 PM ^
If Ohio State fonzanoons their way into the Playoff AGAIN I will lose my shit.
December 1st, 2023 at 3:48 PM ^
I think you just show their fans' self-evaluation after the Michigan game as exhibit A in why they aren't qualified to compete in the post-season.
December 1st, 2023 at 3:53 PM ^
I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I have no problem playing a team that we know, with no doubt, that we can beat without needing luck or playing outside our usual style of offense and defense. I'd rather play Ohio State than find out whether or not we can stop Bo Nix from going crazy on us -- and having to adapt our defense on the fly. We prepared all season for OSU, not Oregon. That said, I'd obviously rather play FSU ahead of anyone else.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:11 PM ^
Yea I don't know if I would want to play Oregon..they play with a ton of tempo which always get us--they go really fast and have a crazy offense.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:22 PM ^
It's more of a vibes thing. Loosing in the playoffs to another team would be disappointing, but wouldn't affect our warm feelings and bragging rights about beating Ohio State. It becomes more stressful if Ohio State makes the playoffs.
December 1st, 2023 at 4:52 PM ^
Good post. I feel good about playing this year's OSU as well but at the same time I'm reluctant to give Day another chance to unfuck his career arc.
December 1st, 2023 at 5:39 PM ^
For me it is NOT about being concerned about playing OSU in the playoffs as I am pretty confident UM can beat OSU (the game in AA this past weekend was only as close as it was because no Harbaugh, no Zinter and no Will Johnson), it is simply about OSU making the playoffs at all. Making the playoffs gives your program some extra "juice" particularly in recruiting and I do NOT want OSU to get even more exposure.
December 1st, 2023 at 3:49 PM ^
FSU will be fine with Glenn, if that’s how it goes. If he plays, you can expect a run-heavy approach and a lot of ground and pound (which is actually FSU’s bread and butter) and he is a REAL run threat (which Rodemaker is not).
December 1st, 2023 at 3:57 PM ^
IMO injuries should have zero impact on rankings as long as FSU wins.
Should the committee have treated Michigan differently when Blake went down? Should Zinters injury have an impact on our ranking?

Does Chris Wienke have any eligibility left ?
December 1st, 2023 at 4:00 PM ^
Can the third string QB throw a decent spiral in the general direction of Keon Coleman? If so, FSU will have a chance.
