November 10th, 2022 at 12:10 PM ^
Was just at Quantico yesterday. They had an enormous cake.
November 10th, 2022 at 1:10 PM ^
I drive by Quantico twice a day, every weekday. Fun times...

I'm trying to think of a memorable quote from that movie that won't get me banned and I'm coming up short
November 10th, 2022 at 12:12 PM ^
Perhaps my favorite...
"God has a hard-on for Marines because we kill everything we see! He plays His games, we play ours! To show our appreciation for so much power, we keep Heaven packed with fresh souls! God was here before the Marine Corps! So you can give your heart to Jesus, but your ass belongs to the Corps! Do you ladies understand?"

The scene where he's listing off infamous assassins like JFK and Charles Whitman and then bragging about how they learned their marksmanship in the Marines... I struggle to explain to others why I laugh hysterically every time I watch that scene.
November 10th, 2022 at 2:29 PM ^
Ah yes, Lee Harvey assassinating Kennedy from that Book Suppository...
November 10th, 2022 at 1:04 PM ^
I'm a fan of this little nugget...."Here, you are all equally worthless!"
Everything R Lee Ermey said before that probably fits your above characterization.

If art imitates life, I heard that line in my first 5 minutes of basic too.

“I want that head so sanitary and squared away that the Virgin Mary herself would be proud to go in there and take a dump.”

Happy birthday devil dogs.....
November 10th, 2022 at 1:59 PM ^
Or as the Germans stuck in Belleau Woods originally stated (probably),
"Wir sind gefucked, es ist der Teufelhunden!"
Happy Birthday, Boys

Semper Fi, Brother. Happy Birthday!
November 10th, 2022 at 1:46 PM ^
Semper Fi indeed. Even though I got out in 1991, I still celebrate today.

Once a Marine always a Marine.

Ooo-Rah!

My grandfather was 1st division and fought in Okinawa. He undoubtedly would have been deployed in the invasion of the mainland had certain events and difficult decisions not happened.
War sucks more than anything. But thank God for Marines.
November 10th, 2022 at 1:12 PM ^
My grandfather was a Corpsman during that invasion. I know he was on the Philippines when we re-took it, but other than that I dunno. He never talked about any of it...
November 10th, 2022 at 1:26 PM ^
Trying to imagine what it must have been like to be in those battles.. It takes a special kind of man to do that sort of fighting. If I had to do that I wouldn't make it 5 steps before I'm in a fetal position in the sand.
November 10th, 2022 at 11:41 AM ^
Happy Birthday to you and all our fellow Marines. 1954-1957 USMC

My Dad was also a WWII Marine in the Pacific.
Oops! I meant to reply to Brutus.
But as long as I'm here: my respects to you Hillbilly!

Lucky! I was blessed to call 29 Palms home during my illustrious career. If you came out for CAX, we may have crossed paths. When were you at Goodfellow? I was there from Jan to Jun 2000.
November 10th, 2022 at 8:02 PM ^
Missed CAX, I was there around that time March-August 2000 so we probably crossed paths daily
November 10th, 2022 at 11:48 AM ^
Happy Birthday, Marines.
My dad was a Marine in the Combined Action Program in Vietnam. My brother was a marine before going to the Special Forces (currently).

Happy Birthday, Marines from a squid.
Some of my best times were the two years I served with 2nd Mar Div and 24 MEU(SOC)
November 10th, 2022 at 11:54 AM ^
I always loved working with Marines during my joint time in the service.
Happy Birthday, Marines

We need you on that wall.

For a layperson like myself, the Ukraine war has driven home the light years superior professionalism of the Marines and other US armed forces versus Russia and others. And that, while technology is important, the quality of the soldier still carries the day.
November 10th, 2022 at 12:43 PM ^
Semper Fi, brother (sister?).
November 10th, 2022 at 1:08 PM ^
Happy Birthday, Marines.
love,
Army Guy
P.S. Marines sent their guys to Military Police school with us. As I believe I've mentioned here before, the Marines didn't have their own police training.
November 10th, 2022 at 1:46 PM ^
Marines don't have much of their own. What we don't have, we buy used (my bootcamp blanket said US Army) and what we can't buy we acquire. Adapt and overcome
November 10th, 2022 at 1:13 PM ^
Semper Fi!
November 10th, 2022 at 1:15 PM ^
HBD and a big thanks to all of you who served.

From the Navy - Happy Birthday to our security force and luggage carriers!
Just for fun, the Navy has almost as many ground combat troops (ie: Marines) as the Army and more combat aircraft than the Air Force!
