What was the crowd chanting?
I was underwhelmed with the blue-out, maize out looks better on TV. But the crowd seemed really into the game. I loved when they were singing Bon Jovi after msu's punter had trouble with the snap. Even though JJ was asking for quiet.
But what were they chanting with 4:26 left? Right after the personal foul on the 4th down conversion? Also, what were the other chants? The TV didn't have the crowd mic'd up very well.

I think it was something about Paul coming home.

The two I heard were:
- “Little brother” was one
- ”F&ck Ohio” which is obligatory
October 31st, 2022 at 2:21 AM ^
This is it. It was little brother for a while but the last few minutes it was all fuck Ohio.
October 31st, 2022 at 6:40 AM ^
i am very bothered that our fanbase would be so uncouth as to yell 'ohio' in public.
simply disgusting.

I thought it was great in the other game that day Penn St. students were wearing the 'worst state ever' shirts. It's catching on.

They took our exact design and sell it in the official store.

It's so funny how PSU is desperate for an actual rival that they result to take these weird shots at both Michigan and OSU

PSU is always touting that they're #Unrivaled, it's hilarious

I was at the game and actually thought the blue out looked great. Might not translate to the TV as well though. In addition to the chants mentioned, I think there was one about Tucker, but couldn't make out the words exactly.
October 31st, 2022 at 2:45 AM ^
I thought the maize pompoms kind of messed up the "blue out". Just made it look like the typical sea of maize and blue on TV.
October 31st, 2022 at 8:18 AM ^
Blue out was never going to work.
I kept saying it, maybe at basketball where you can pass out t-shirts...but at football you had to do blue pom poms and even that wasn't going to be as good as the maize out.
Dark colors just highlight the bright colors.
October 31st, 2022 at 9:00 AM ^
I thought it made the blue out better. Seeing the sudden Maize in the stands with the pom poms made the crowd pop even more.
October 31st, 2022 at 9:09 AM ^
It was interesting, at times would look like a blue out and then a frenzy of maize poms during big plays, etc.
October 31st, 2022 at 7:57 AM ^
Watching on tv I wouldn't have known it was a blue out unless someone told me.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:26 AM ^
The blue-out looked sweet in person and the maize pom poms were an awesome touch! The crowd was also chanting "Tuck's not coming!" late in the game. At least in the sections near me.
October 31st, 2022 at 12:23 PM ^
The maize pom poms with blue clothing looked greenish-brown on TV. The look did not translate.
Either have blue pom poms or no pom poms if you are going to have a Blue-Out.
But in any case, our dark blue just doesn't stand out as an "XXX-Out" look. Especially at night. It's not bright enough, it just looks dark and dull.
The maize pom poms with maize clothing however, look stunning on TV at night. That's a winner.

Little Brother
October 31st, 2022 at 1:39 AM ^
I was extremely frustrated that people wouldn’t stop making noise when Michigan had the ball. They even managed to get a wave around a couple of times. The Bon Jovi, I blame on the DJ / Special K (whoever controls the dad rock). It’s absolute malfeasance to start a crowd singalong song 15 seconds before Michigan’s set to take a snap.
The chant at that specific point was definitely Li-ttle Bro-ther (clap clap, clap clap clap).

"stadiums play too much music and too loudly
I want to hear the band"
This ^ ^ ^ And I say this as a completely unbiased observer. (My user name is simply a random selection of ANSI characters)
October 31st, 2022 at 9:08 AM ^
I went to the Falcons game earlier this year. The piped in music was incredibly loud! We had a 40-ish person marching band right behind us in the "standing room only" area and we could barely hear them.
October 31st, 2022 at 9:10 AM ^
This is the definition of Kinnick Stadium. Holy crap it was insanely loud a month ago.
October 31st, 2022 at 2:20 AM ^
I think there was one, maybe two, non rap/hip hop songs played the entire game. No complaints from me, just saying that Bon Jovi song was about the only Dad Rock other than The Killers.
October 31st, 2022 at 2:43 AM ^
That's actually why I differentiated it. I don't know if the DJ is playing the hip hop and Special K is playing the dad rock, or if the DJ is doing it all now. My guess would be that there are still two people involved, but I'm not sure.
October 31st, 2022 at 7:01 AM ^
We'll have to get Joel Klatt in to figure it out.
October 31st, 2022 at 7:48 AM ^
My question is - why is there anyone on the field 'spinning' music, let alone an emcee for a football game? Can't do that from the booth?
Yes, my pearls always look good.
October 31st, 2022 at 2:39 AM ^
This week's DJ was pretty bad. He also screwed up Mr Brightside by cutting the music way too late
October 31st, 2022 at 6:31 AM ^
We don't need a DJ
October 31st, 2022 at 7:11 AM ^
I don't mind the DJ, but the field instructions about starting chants are the worst fucking thing in the world
October 31st, 2022 at 7:51 AM ^
I wonder how many (if any) people have emailed the ticket/PR office about such stoopidity? Do they really think Michigan fans are so new at football that we don't know when to cheer, or how to chant Michigan centered chants we've been doing for over 100 fucking years?
October 31st, 2022 at 9:11 AM ^
Wut? The DJ didn't help strike up the LIT-TLE BRO-THER clap-clap-clap chant? How else could the crowd figure this out?
October 31st, 2022 at 8:07 AM ^
I think the DJ was better than the awkward guy who points at his wrist all the time.
October 31st, 2022 at 8:14 AM ^
100% disagree, everyone around us loved this weeks DJ; "DJ Truth", waaaay more than any previous ones. The Push Pen thing from PSU was so, so bad and I don't need the DJ to point to his hoodie every other shot.
I can't blame this DJ for the Mr. Brighside screwup, the lightshow had a chance to be awesome but you have the turn the lights off for the effect to work. You could tell it was programed to stop when it did and just screwed up the singalong tradition.
And as always, the MC is just terrible, stop that immediately!
October 31st, 2022 at 8:37 AM ^
Agreed, thought he did a good job.
Agreed on the lights needing to go out. That's what they did for the UTL (II?) Beyonce thing with the light-up wristbands. The effect was pretty cool.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:11 AM ^
This week's DJ was way better than the one who did Penn State. He played songs that kept the crowd going, did nothing really dumb. Agreed the Bon Jovi after the turnover was a dumb move. Otherwise pretty good. If we're going to have a DJ at least make it this guy and not the one who did PSU.
I'm not sure the Mr. Brightside cutout was his fault either, given the app sync thing.
Also, WHY in the world you'd make me try to log into an app that requires data/wifi to sign in to sync to their light show is beyond me. I got all the access in the app approved ahead of time but couldn't get past a spinning wheel because as everyone knows, service is terrible in the stadium. Just a dumb move.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:52 AM ^
I second this. The DJ this week was great - got positive reviews from everyone in my section as well. Even people who don't usually like the DJ.
In general, it's a lot cooler to have a DJ for a night, rivalry game than a noon kick against Northwestern.
October 31st, 2022 at 8:55 AM ^
I find it irritating that many of the fans think it is so important to call attention to themselves that they don't care if it makes it more difficult for the players to score. (Especially when scoring in the red zone has been such an issue.)
October 31st, 2022 at 9:02 AM ^
Lol you think the fans are trying to bring attention to themselves 😂. Now that's a stupid take. Most of the fans are partying their asses off and loving the fact were kicking little bros ass. Unfortunately their football IQ lacks a little to make noise when we have the ball.
October 31st, 2022 at 9:13 AM ^
To be absolutely fair, the problems with RZ offense go a bit deeper than fan noise or anyone drawing unwarranted attention to themselves. I would dare say the overarching tendencies and scheme of Michigan's offense are more the issue there.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:24 AM ^
Need to bring back the train formation playbook chapter. Yes it was a silly gimmick. But they had consistent red zone success that season. I remember thinking that our play calling in skirt yardage situations was innovative and dynamic. Can't say that this season.
October 31st, 2022 at 10:24 AM ^
I've found that DJs at sporting events generally suck. The DJs always seem to care more about themselves and being the center of attention than actually being a compliment to the game environment like they should be

I heard "little brother" after the unsportsmanlike.
