Yes, THAT Coolio.
I didn't realize he was 59 already.

Maybe not OT?
RIP either way. Thanks for the Fantastic Voyage.

Damn, he was repping UM back in his day. I've never seen that photo before, coolio. I've always liked his hits, never heard much of the rest. RIP

Gotta, gotta. gotta get up to get down. Gotta get up to get down...

Is that a Desmond jersey behind him? I've noticed the #18 before, but the #21 is new to me.
September 29th, 2022 at 11:24 AM ^
Yep. He also had a Michigan skull cap on too. Michigan gear was real popular on the west coast during the 90's. Unfortunately to this day you have to tread carefully because a notorious Crip set also rocks Michigan gear too. A good friend of almost found out the hard way.
September 29th, 2022 at 11:32 AM ^
Oh shit, you were on the original post about Coolio wearing Michigan gear!
September 28th, 2022 at 9:56 PM ^
RIP, Coolio.

Damn, RIP. I really enjoyed his cover of the Weird Al song.

Well, I know I'm a million times as humble as thou art!

That was 1995, My Name Is didn't come out until 1999.
That was a silly, bright, fun, video right when Big and Pac were at their height and before the late 90s were EVERYTHING turned into a video that looks like that or a song that sounded like that.
I never liked the song, but I respect the hell out of it being ahead of its time.
Even Missy, a pioneer...she didn't release Sock It 2 Me until 1997.

As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
I take a look at my life and realize theres not much left
Cuz I've been laughing and crying for so long that( Edit: it's blasting and laughing for so long. Apologies to the deceased)
Even my mama thinks that my mind is gone

I still throw on fantastic voyage once every couple of months when I need a pick em up. This is a shame, RIP
September 29th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
Thanks for mentioning that song, I watched the "Fantastic Voyage" several times last night upon reading of Coolio's death, one of my favorite videos from those days.
September 28th, 2022 at 10:09 PM ^
Taking that final fantastic voyage. Rip, Coolio.

Here is a throwback thread about Coolio and the Toomer jersey. Which was also my first UM football jersey.

Are any of those posters still on MGOBLOG? Jethro34 & UMfan21 look familiar.
September 29th, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
Yes, besides the two of them, 'jmblue' and 'Louie C,' both frequently post and 'Yostal' has made a few posts in 2022. But all the others in that thread have been absent for anywhere from 4 to 10 years.
Some long-forgotten usernames/userpics there for sure!

Wow. I didn't realize he was that old either. Definitely one of the faces of 90s pop rap music.
Hopefully he's just in paradise now sans the gangster (unless he wants to be)
September 28th, 2022 at 11:35 PM ^
Damn, RIP indeed. I guess he never recovered from Hot Ones.

He's also an expert on light rail, at least according to the Canberra Times:
“It's a very inexpensive form of transportation and very easy to get around, so yes, it's dope.”
But Coolio, a man with diverse credits including the creation of the Ghetto Gourmet cuisine, didn't stop there.
The dreadlocked rapper had some advice for Yarralumla residents worried their leafy suburb will be transformed into a “ghetto of crime and god knows what else” by the residential development of the former Canberra Brickworks.
“Don't worry about that because if you are it's probably already a ghetto,” he said.
“If you growing and coming up in the hood find a way to make it better or find a way to get out Shaka Zulu!!”

Got to see him perform (among many others) NYE in Miami after Michigan lost to FSU in 2016. The show lifted my spirits. He wore a hat with 2 of his signature braids coming out of the top. When he took off the hat he was Jordan-level bald except for those two braids.
September 29th, 2022 at 8:20 AM ^
My fondest memory of Coolio is his cameo (and the rap that proceeds it) in Leprechaun in the Hood. RIP

Man, way too soon. Dude was really reppin' M in that video. Sweet! RIP.

In the “greatest rap album of all time” thread from about two months ago, Coolio was rather well represented. We’ll miss him.
