[edited] OT: Chicago Bears interviewing Flores
Per Barstool Chicago.
[Edited @3:20pm to remove barstool link and replace it with the first link I located when I went to the Googles.
Please remember: NO BARSTOOL! -rob f]

/nitpick mode - It's actually per an NFL Network reporter
Former #Dolphins coach Brian Flores is set to interview for the #Bears head coaching job, per source.
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) January 11, 2022
After his surprise dismissal Monday, Flores is expected to be hot in this cycle. Chicago gets the first confirmed interview.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:54 PM ^
Smart of the Bears. I think Flores is a really good coach. I just think his insistence on Miami pursuing Watson led to an unresolvable conflict.
January 11th, 2022 at 3:42 PM ^
That insistence was more Stephen Ross I would wager.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:58 PM ^
Yeah, I hope they hire him, and that the Raiders win a couple playoff games making it hard for them to part with their current head coach.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:53 PM ^
Gutsy move.
January 11th, 2022 at 1:53 PM ^
Flores is Spanish for Flowers.
January 11th, 2022 at 2:11 PM ^
for those of you that don't habla español, el niño is spanish for... the niño
January 11th, 2022 at 2:17 PM ^
¿Que pasta? ¿Dónde está lauder?
January 11th, 2022 at 2:48 PM ^
Carlos is Spanish for Charles… Charles Cain… The Alphabet Bandit!

Logged in just for the Beverly Hills Cop 2 reference.
January 11th, 2022 at 3:01 PM ^
So this news broke on the Ocho, then?
January 11th, 2022 at 2:01 PM ^
I think Flores would be great for Chicago, as long as Flores believes in Fields as the answer at QB.
He'd do his usual great job with the defense, and his tough-minded attitude would work well in Chicago.
January 11th, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
I agree. I'm surprised that Miami fired him. He seemed to have the team playing hard for him.
January 11th, 2022 at 2:26 PM ^
As a Bears fan, the idea of profiting off another franchise’s boneheaded decision is novel but appealing.
January 11th, 2022 at 2:07 PM ^
Well, Tom Flores did win a Super Bowl. Maybe they are trying to bring back 3 yards and a cloud of dirt??
January 11th, 2022 at 2:25 PM ^
He won 2 Super Bowls! He also won 2 games total as the Seahawk coach in 1992, leading what might have been the worst offensive NFL team in the last 40 years.
January 11th, 2022 at 2:40 PM ^
I think he is a good coach but this doesn't do anything to squash our fears of Harbaugh signing with the Bears. Flores is a minority candidate and Chicago has to interview minorities even if they want to eventually sign Harbaugh. I'm not suggesting this is what's happening - but it could just be a formality. My opinion is Flores should be given another chance as a head coach.
January 11th, 2022 at 3:00 PM ^
He's one of at least three minority candidates they are seeking to interview. They also have a list of diverse candidates they are looking at for GM. They said a diverse pool of candidates was very important. Interviewing Flores is certainly not a token interview to fulfill the Rooney Rule.
January 11th, 2022 at 3:34 PM ^
Nope. They also want to interview Todd Bowles and Byron Leftwich. It's crazy to imagine, but some franchises actually want to hire the best coach available.
January 11th, 2022 at 3:35 PM ^
No one ever knows for sure with Harbaugh, but a lot of insiders are saying it's Raiders or bust in NFL at this time.
January 11th, 2022 at 3:46 PM ^
Flores is black? I thought his name was Flowers in Spanish... does that count as two minority interviews?
January 11th, 2022 at 4:04 PM ^
I think it is interesting how we perceive Spanish in this country versus English and even other European languages.
January 11th, 2022 at 2:47 PM ^
This is so bears
January 11th, 2022 at 3:01 PM ^
I think he'd be a great hire for any team.
From the JH perspective, I think LV is the only threat.
January 11th, 2022 at 3:09 PM ^
I don’t think Harbaugh is going to the Bears. I think he’s waiting on the Raiders job based on all the chatter I have heard.
It makes too much sense since the inside rumors here from GoJG had a deal happening before Bloody Monday. Furthermore, if the stuff from NBCSports and Balas is correct, Warde, Ross, and Harbaugh have been in contract discussions.
The Raiders might not know what they’re going to do regarding their coach yet. Additionally, John U. Bacon has said Jim’s wife used to live in Vegas and enjoyed living there and that Jim Harbaugh has connections to the Davis family.
Gut instinct based on Balas, Webb, Bacon, etc info is Harbaugh is waiting to see what happens with the Vegas Raiders job.
But who knows, only time will tell.
January 11th, 2022 at 4:57 PM ^
Harbaugh definitely put the word out to the NFL that he's interested. Nothing new there. That's been reported by everyone. He'll take any NFL gig that gets offered. (EDIT: I think you're correct that the Raiders are the biggest threat mostly because he supposedly has a good relationship with Mark Davis... maybe because they're both a little eccentric and odd, who knows)
Surprise twist: he's not getting calls, at least not yet. And anyone who thinks the holdup in signing a Michigan contract has anything to do with money is completely off base. The man doesn't even have an agent. It's about competing at the highest level and on a level playing field. There's nothing more Warde can offer him at this point-- just a waiting game for the NFL carousel to fully stop.
FWIW I'd suggest rooting for a deep Raiders run into the playoffs* and for the Bears/Vikings to make quick hires. If the Bears hire Flores, great. One less seat available. Jacksonville is a non-starter because the GM is Trent Baalke.
*EDIT: Jeff Chadiha was on Jim Rome yesterday and stated (an opinion as far as I can tell) that the Raiders are firing interim HC Rich Bissacia unless he's hoisting the Lombardi at the end
January 11th, 2022 at 3:51 PM ^
I expect Flores to interview for nearly every job opening. It's an easy two birds with one stone situation: you get to talk with someone who seems to be a pretty good coach and is qualified to be your head coach, and you comply with the Rooney Rule.
January 11th, 2022 at 9:24 PM ^
Firing Brian Flores made NO sense at all. Here's a guy who beat the Patriots & Belichik with a crap QB (drafted by the GM ahead of Justin Herbert) by getting his Defense to play at an astronomical level. Won seven or eight straight games down the stretch, meaning the Team bought in & was winning.
Saying that Brian Flores is just being interviewed to meet the Rooney Rule is selling him WAY short. He's one of the highest qualified coaching candidates. Why on earth the Dolphins fired him and not their GM is insane!!
January 11th, 2022 at 4:42 PM ^
Why no barstool? I don't pay any attention to them. No like or dislike of them because I don't read or listen to them. Watched some of their golf stuff and that's it. Are they unreliable when it comes to this sort of thing?
Just curious.

Directly from Seth (in the Mod Sticky Thread), here's why:
Sharing Trolls Counts as Trolling:
Sometimes desperately lazy outlets hire trolls, or trolls who are good at social media build enough of a following, that they become a headache for us, spreading hate or falsehoods. Because having them repeated on our site can directly harm us, if you're on the message board you should be aware that posting something from them could get you banned. They are:
SirYacht/Chat Sports/James Yoder - Fake news merchant who likes to make up plausible rumors or report non-sure things to get a false scoop. Any local Spartan media when they talk about Michigan. Unless they're yelling "MAKE PLAYS!"
Pete Finebaum: FoxNews for SEC fans. Occasionally useful to them but the only times he's intersecting with us is when he's carrying Saban's water. Rainer Sabin: Finebaum wannabe hired by the Freep to troll Michigan fans.
Steve Deace: Curiously well-funded white supremacist radio host who's got such a small Michigan following you can safely assume anyone posting positively about him is Deace and ban him again. Creates lots of burner accounts to promote himself. Recently booted by Maven for advocating lynching.
Barstool: People who took the freedom of young internet too seriously because really what they wanted to do the whole time was propagate bad ideas.
Simply put, barstool links have been forbidden by MGoManagement for many years.

Flores is a good coach and Miami was dumb to get rid of him. Tua doesn't look like the answer at QB and I'd much rather have a good coach over an okay QB. I'm not sure if he'll work in Chicago (the Bears have issues beyond Nagy being a bit overwhelmed), but that's a smart move if you think the team is close.

I’m far from a barstool fan, but this site continuously looks pedantic and annoying with the barstool ban. The New York Times Gave an OpEd to Tom Cotton which is significantly more detrimental to people than a shitty comedy website run by a weasel. And yet the NYT is Gucci?
either ban more shitty sites or stop trying to take some arbitrary moral high ground

Contact MGoOwnership/MGoManagement and try pleading your case.
But as long as Seth continues to post the list of rules, we mods will continue to post reminders and more.
January 11th, 2022 at 9:17 PM ^
The site is free to do things the way they prefer and I’m free to criticize the site when I feel it’s acting hypocritical and lame.
don’t really care to take it anything beyond that

And I'm fine with you expressing that. Even an upvote for speaking up.
But there are channels thru which you can make your opinions heard (such as privately by emailing Seth or publicly by posting in the moderator sticky thread. Chance of Seth seeing your thoughts in a random post are pretty slim unless it's a flame-filled thread.
To be clear, I as a volunteer mod have absolutely no say in making the rules around here.
