OT: Urban Meyer shit show continues...
https://www.nfl.com/news/tension-boiling-over-between-coach-urban-meyer-jaguars-players-staff
As this article explains, seems like Urban has created some serious tension between his coaches and players in Jacksonville. (Again).
In the last two weeks alone, he's thrown his WR unit under the bus - resulting in locker room favorite, and former Detroit Lion, Marvin Jones to storm out of practice, only to be convinced back - to which he then got into a heated argument with Urban. He also benched their #1 RB in a game in favor of his old boy Carlos Hyde, but the most damning thing out of the last two weeks was this gem:
"During a staff meeting, Meyer delivered a biting message that he's a winner and his assistant coaches are losers, according to several people informed of the contents of the meeting, challenging each coach individually to explain when they've ever won and forcing them to defend their résumés."
What a massive dick hole this guy is.

This dude is such a douchebag.
If Marvin Jones of all people cannot stand your attitude, re-evaluate yourself.
December 11th, 2021 at 3:12 PM ^
Urban is more like Rick Pitino than Nick Saban. Both Pitino and Saban failed at the pro levels, but Saban has a bit more of a moral compass than Urban and Pitino. My prediction - Urban Meyer is coaching at Florida State either next year or the year following similar to turncoat Pitino coaching at Louisville after his run at Kentucky. If Urban was interested in FSU right now, they’d dump their current coach in a heartbeat in January once the NFL season is done.

Probably not fair to say Saban failed at the pro level. He actually was pretty good given the team he had, and he chose to leave given the chance to take over at Bama.
December 11th, 2021 at 1:53 PM ^
LOL.
Cannot stand this clown.
December 11th, 2021 at 1:54 PM ^
Guess what, Urban? Now you're a loser, too.
December 11th, 2021 at 2:04 PM ^
Lol! Didn't he also hire these loser assistants?
December 11th, 2021 at 2:10 PM ^
Urban certainly has a knack for hiring losers
December 11th, 2021 at 2:12 PM ^
He has always been a loser........ Championships and winning record aside, he has been and still is a douchbag and loser....
December 11th, 2021 at 2:36 PM ^
Two things can be true at one, first he's a douche, second, he's one of the top ten coaches of all time in college football
December 11th, 2021 at 3:12 PM ^
*top-five
December 11th, 2021 at 10:39 PM ^
You are both right It still doesn't make him a "winner" in my book.......
Top Ten.....Top five.....Top two..... it doesn't matter, he is still a douchbag and loser....
December 11th, 2021 at 1:54 PM ^
In no way surprised. Scandal and toxicity follow this guy every place he gets run out of. He should stick to running the spread in college. Coaches like him and Saban show what they're really made of in the NFL, where their massive recruiting advantage disappears, and mysteriously so do all their wins...
December 11th, 2021 at 1:58 PM ^
TBH I dislike Saban like most of us here do, but Meyer really seems to be at another doucheness level...
December 11th, 2021 at 2:02 PM ^
What is wrong with Saban? He seems perfectly fine. Urban is a douche bag on many, many, many levels
December 11th, 2021 at 4:35 PM ^
Saban is on the same level as Meyers.
Those of us that remember him ripping and belittling the press for asking if he was taking Alabama/Miami jobs, know what a douche he is. Pulling scholarships at the last minute and many other BS things.
My favorite take on Saban is from HOF Tight End/Broadcaster and member of the UM team that beat the "Team of the Century" in 1969, Jim Mandich.

The mafia has its "Capo di tutti Capi" (Boss of all Bosses). Clearly Urban is football's "Douche di tutti Douches."
December 11th, 2021 at 3:18 PM ^
+1. This should get all the upvotes.
December 11th, 2021 at 2:11 PM ^
Yeah - this is a reach. Putting Saban and Meyer in the same bucket simply due to their college success and NFL failures is just a bad take.
December 11th, 2021 at 2:21 PM ^
Whether Saban was even a failure in the NFL is debatable. He coached the Dolphins two seasons and went 9-7 and 6-10 before Alabama lured him back to college. That's not a ton of evidence one way or the other.
December 11th, 2021 at 2:30 PM ^
Drew Brees passing a physical in Miami may also have significantly changed his trajectory there.
December 11th, 2021 at 3:03 PM ^
Yeah. His best quarterback at Miami was Gus Frerotte in his first year. His second year he had an injured Daunte Culpepper and Joey Harrington.
December 11th, 2021 at 4:14 PM ^
Largely because the Dolphins don't have bagmen who can simply buy the #1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 draft picks every single year. At Alabama they do that every single year. You give that massive talent disparity to a good coach and they'll certainly dominate. Saban is absolutely a good coach, I don't deny that, but I would give the massive talent disparity the larger share of the credit for their dominance than coaching brilliance. In the NFL where the playing field is far more level, dominant college coaches end up not dominating anymore.
December 11th, 2021 at 6:23 PM ^
Big reach. Saban's first 2 rings were built off top 3-10 classes, didn't have a #1 class until his third ring. Lost most of his starters to the draft last year, and is still the best team in the country. Loses coordinators left and right but never has issues finding better ones.
LSU, Texas, Ohio State, Georgia and USC have had similar stretches of elite recruiting during the previous decade. None have replicated the success of Alabama or even been close.

I’m not sure how hard he needed to be lured from Miami. They were expected to be a playoff team in that second season and passed on Drew Brees for Dante Culpepper. Not all his fault, it it was a great two years.

To make a better point about talent disparities and the differences between good coaches thriving in the most ideal of ideal situations and getting far more credit than is due vs struggling in bad ones and bolting very quickly, I'll say Chip Kelly. Good coach, dominated the Pac12 by coaching at Nike U, building a talent disparity, and running a tempo spread. NFL teams drool over him, goes to the NFL and shits the bed as both a coach and a GM. Goes back to college to a place that's not Nike U, and it took 4 years just to get a winning season. It's not that he's a bad coach, he is a good coach, but the organization and talent disparities should be a gigantic asterisk on some coaches college dominance.
December 11th, 2021 at 7:29 PM ^
I don't think it was really about a talent advantage. Kelly - like RichRod - was on the cutting edge for awhile with his offense and won a lot of games. Then opponents caught up.

And they call us 'scUM'... Look in the mirror, coach. Look in the mirror.
December 11th, 2021 at 2:12 PM ^
The continual use of scUM by Spartans and Ohioans shows how dull and unimaginative they are. It might've been clever forty+ years ago.
December 11th, 2021 at 2:58 PM ^
The use of "Ohio" for Ohio State would like a word with you
December 11th, 2021 at 3:46 PM ^
You mean like how they play football at “Ohio Stadium”? It’s seems to be ok.
December 11th, 2021 at 4:32 PM ^
and their band spells 'ohio'. and their fight song says 'ohio'. and the little gold panties they hand out say 'ohio'. so hey, 'ohio' it is.
now grog, spill the beans. you're not a michigan fan, but what team do you root for?
December 11th, 2021 at 4:02 PM ^
Yeah, you need to really gig those assholes who insult THEE Ohio State University with their clearly-intended-to-be-obnoxious "O-H-I-O" chants aimed at poor OSU fans. And that band that taunts OSU fans with "script Ohio" should be banned from campus.

scuMSUckers shouldn't talk.
December 11th, 2021 at 2:33 PM ^
Wait, Buckeyes can’t call us “scUM.” Maybe they call us “scUX,” cause they can’t use “M’s.” Truly a couple of the lamest rivalry jokes out there.

does the circle of trust work in the nfl?

He is a piece of shit, but he's not entirely wrong. Either way... Maybe he can get the Maryland job next year??
December 11th, 2021 at 2:46 PM ^
but didn't he hire the assistants? shouldn't he already know their resumes?
December 11th, 2021 at 2:53 PM ^
As we know, he has a memory problem. He forgot their resumes. He needed reminding.

Urban is the gift that keeps on giving. About the only other CFB coach who could generate such disdain in an NFL locker room would be Brian Kelly, routinely excoriated by former co-workers as a massive douche nozzle. *
* - Maybe not in so many words, but you get the picture.
