WIN THE GAME
Just following coach's orders.
While I'm still posting, click here for the broadcast view of the shot and celebration, both of which are magnificent.

all night. Huge comeback and good lesson for them that they need to come to play every day. They were fortunate to win this one.

walking away after the time out. I would have guessed they were defeated. I don't see the fire in their eyes. GRIII came through.

Morgan especially looks like he thinks the game is over.
I'm probably being dense here, but my version doesn't have audio. Does Beilein drop McGary's immortal line, or is it just a fun headline?
February 26th, 2014 at 11:10 PM ^
It looks like he's saying GAME the first time his mouth pops into to view, and WIN the next time. So I think it's logical to conclude that he was repeating that.
February 26th, 2014 at 11:31 PM ^
"Win the game" is actually Beilein's stock phrase for these situations - which is why McGary wrote it on the whiteboard.

This could be 20/20 hindsight but watching the gif, it looks like he is nervous. He takes a deep breath and then exhales. I did the same thing while standing next to my couch for the last 30 seconds of the game.
February 27th, 2014 at 10:35 AM ^
If you had been standing with me (and the rest of the viewers) for the final two minutes of regulation it never would have gone to overtime!
UP IN FRONT!!!

They should paint "Win The Game" in every U of M locker room. Because isn't that what this program is really all about?*
*and of course academics and integrity

But pretty sure Morgan touching the net constitutes basket interference under the letter of the law. Although a ref would be crazy to call it in that situation.

Well that's one way to start things off.
February 27th, 2014 at 1:36 AM ^
I only brought this up because I was holding my breath thinking Morgan might have touched the ball while it was on the rim. But since you provided such a thought-provoking counter-argument, here you go, p46: http://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/BR13.pdf
"Basket interference occurs when a player: a. Touches the ball or any part of the basket [which includes the net] while the ball is on or within the basket;"
February 27th, 2014 at 12:12 PM ^
but the rule requires some sort of disadvantage to the other team and it's more than a stretch to pretend that Morgan barely grazing the net in that manner affected the ball's path in any manner.
All four of the basket interference rules are aimed at preventing the aiding or hindering of a ball's end spot destination once the ball is on or above the rim.
"But the spirit of the rule isn't in the rule book and if you go on a technical understanding of the rule I'm right." I agree.
But it's not like I'm making up the "spirit of the rules" argument. The rulebook itself uses the term.

Wow. Established yourself as an asshole your first day on the blog. Nice work.
February 27th, 2014 at 1:10 AM ^
I was suprised to learn this as well, as I don't think I've ever seen a player called for it for just touching the net in ANY game situation. Regardless, I do think he violated the technical rule here, but I think everyone probably gets that call every time.
February 27th, 2014 at 11:33 AM ^
I've seen it called. But it's rare.
February 26th, 2014 at 10:35 PM ^
there are plays that win championships.
GRIII just made one.
WON THE GAME.
February 26th, 2014 at 10:39 PM ^
Was that the play call? Does anybody know who was supposed to get the ball?

man...
That almost had the same roll as the last shot versus Indiana in Ann Arbor last year...and with the same guy beneath the basket. Thankfully this one rolled the right way.

I'm not a lip reader, but has someone actually confirmed that he said "win the game" at that moment? I don't see it.
Anyway, there is this:

I love how druing the celebration of the basket, everyone else jumps up and celebrates...while Bacari slowly rises from his chair and walks with a purpose to shake hands. PIMP.

GREAT article. Thanks for posting it - definitely scored high on the "goosebumpometer".

On the broadcast view, what's the referee at the bottom of the screen motioning for, and what exactly is he calling? On the video clip in the prior thread I even hear whistles.
Just curious.
February 27th, 2014 at 6:49 AM ^
He's signalling "basket counts", saying it beat the buzzer. It's his call because he's the referee in line to see both the shot leaving Robinson's hand and the backboard (and the red light signalling time has expired).
February 27th, 2014 at 6:59 AM ^
I'm OK with this.

You just have to love the positivity of Coach Beilein. When they broke the huddle and you see him with a smile on his face and, "Win the Game" attitude, I was ready to jump on the court ! Who wouldn't want to play for a coach like that?
Playing a game is easy but to win the game the player has to compete a lot. As per my knowledge regarding the games it differs according to games like if it is a game of children's then easy to play it. After a long time I have seen such a sports show that describing the value of winning team and the loosong team. Mostly the audience supports to their favorite one and after winning the match it is depend upon the social sites to make it highlight.
