So there's that, if you're worried about what Mitch might read. I'll admit that I saw a couple of those references to his dad - arguing about dropping in the ratings, always making Mitch play up - and my QBForce antennae went up just a bit. Champeen might be toeing the line, but I don't personally think what he wrote was egregious. Of course, there's nothing in the interview that compares to, ya know, actually home schooling your kid so he can work out with Marv Marinovich (YTMM). So maybe we can reserve judgment. |
| 1 week 2 days ago | My argument is that you |
My argument is that you shouldn't rely merely on stats, and you really shouldn't rely on one particularly simplistic stat. Nope, VORP that I can quickly look up on Wikipedia for Hart. But considering what he did with what was in front of him is, indeed, important in evaluating him. And yeah, Jake Long was fantastic. Who else was on those lines again? Apart from Adam Stenavich, who was solid but unspectacular (and was only blocking for Hart for two years), the line was unquestionably subpar. No matter how great your left tackle is, he's only going to consistently block one defender per play. And oh yeah - you mentioned zone left - take a look at those rosters and see how many nimble-footed zone-blocking types catch your eye. Looking at Hart's 5 ypc and concluding that he was not an elite player is faulty reasoning. If anything kept him from being elite it was injuries, IME. I stand by the argument that, if Hart really was fast enough to consistently outrun secondaries, he would have been Earl fucking Campbell. |

Unlike all those other Midwestern programs that just watch the Cali recruits flow down the pipeline and onto the field. You can maybe put Notre Dame down as a non-West Coast team that pulls a number of elite recruits from over there - I'd have to check. Who else does? This is a ridiculous standard you have. |

Still doesn't make sense. Of course we lost out on some national recruits. We've also won some battles over elite, national recruits. So what's your point? Show me how 'you can see in the last class' where this recruiting weakness comes in - is it just that there were a couple of good players we didn't get? Saying that focusing on the overall recruiting class is like sticking your head in the sand is a very strange perspective. |

That's really wonderful that you can research stats online, but it's ridiculous to say he wasn't an amazing college RB. He was running vehind subpar lines his entire career, and the small caveat you mention about the Debord offense is a huge, huge deal. Hart spent his entire career getting at least a couple of yards more per carry than his blocking really provided for him. But go ahead and pull the most basic statistic there is in order to judge his career. |

That's not irony - it's just bad timing. But more to the point, losing out on one recruit - or on many recruits - does not make one a bad recruiter. If you put together great recruiting classes, you handle recruiting. Barring some kind of signing day armageddon, Hoke's 2 for 2. |

My wife was at a charter school there - Blackstone Valley Prep - for a couple of years, so I'm vicariously plugged into education-type debates. Providence is certainly an interesting case study for urban education. Whatever you decide, best of luck. If you go, be sure to get some Bob & Timmy's pizza, too. Trust me. |

You let him goad you into listing all of your academic accomplishments, and it made you look like you were taking the trail to the Douchey Kingdom. You're obviously smart, brotha, or you wouldn't be looked at by Brown. Trust that the rest of us are smart enough to recognize that! |

So correct me if I'm wrong. What I heard, though, is that when they broke up the 'bridgem over the river, many bodies were found in the cement. Urban myth or actual reflection of the prevalence of mob activity in Providence? |
