Train attempts to ram USNS Mercy in Port of Los Angeles
Now here's something you don't see everyday...
https://abc7.com/amp/usns-mercy-coronavirus-train-crash-derailment/6069395/
Eduardo Moreno, 44, of San Pedro intended to hit the ship, saying he thought it was "suspicious" and did not believe "the ship is what they say it's for.'"
WTH? Man, people are going batshit crazy over this! Settle down, dumbasses, be socially distant from each other and this shall pass.
Wait til everything is shut down for 2 weeks and no one is allowed to leave their house and see how crazy shit gets...My wife showed me the totally legit looking announcement on it from the National Guard on Facebook
Shits already been shut down longer than 2 weeks here in Los Angeles.
Oh man, it's gonna get so crazy when everyone is just sitting around their house. Oh MAN so crazy.
Was referring to the fake National Guard memo on Facebook too many people thought was real stating we were going to shut down the entire country in 48-72 hours, essential businesses and all and basically go into Martial Law where you couldn’t leave your house period for 2 weeks. Apparently you didn’t see the post and realize I was joking.
I thought it was another April fools joke at first
I'm confused .... this story does not say "Florida Man" anywhere in it.
read the article. that guy is cra-cra, as 5150 as they get. it said there's a video showing he was holding a flare and that he had to do it, 'the world has to know'. serious mental issues, per PC 1368, won't be competent for trial in california unless/until some help comes his way.
i remember 25 years ago, almost to the day, having a long boat ride with my soon-to-be wife on a beautiful clear april night, and we went out and around the mercy. it is the sister ship to the comfort that sailed into NY earlier this week.
Whew. That was close. It's a good thing that someone this crazy is only...the engineer of a locomotive. What could possibly go wrong?
Mongo only pawn. Think it has something to do with choo-choo
I was sure your second paragraph was going a different direction
i have spent many days/hours on board, but that was a very special trip. we basically had the talk about 'what do you want do with your life'. it turned out we wanted the same thing and 25 yrs and a bunch of kids later, we definitely wanted the same things.
Maybe it did, but XM is far too much the gentleman to share details.
From reading the few quotes, it doesn't sound like he's just crazy. It sounds like he's one of the Q conspiracists. And while it would be nice to laugh them off, I don't think we can do that anymore. Their talking points have made it to cable news and the halls of Congress.
I've said it before, but here goes....
Think of how dumb the average person is. Half are dumber than that.
Only if the average person is at exactly the median.
+1 (Pedantic)
People love to nitpick about this, but average is also correct as one of average's definitions is describing something typical or ordinary
and if there are an odd number of people
I don’t know about an odd number of people, but I am damn certain we have a number of odd people.
And all are nowhere near as dumb as Special Agent Utah.
SAU hit the 10 ring tonight. kudos to JPC.
Apparently Seth is too busy to ban him. Ever think of volunteering to be a moderator?
i guess i could, but i don't know that i'm cut from the cloth they might be looking for.
i sympathize with seth, et al, the board has been crazy. it has calmed down some, but man, for few weeks there were a lot of 'hot' threads.
I don't know what they're looking for either. They have said they asked StephenRJKing (?) but he declined. Magnus said he has volunteered but they didn't take him up on it. It seems to me that guys like you, Don and Mr. Migglesworth - long time participants who are on fairly frequently and never seem to get into quarrels - would be good choices.
“You only get one chance” to come up short of bumping a naval ship by 250 yards. He almost had it!
Stress can help crazy bubble to the surface.
Crazy doesn't need help.
But stress and tigers will both work.
Conspiracy Theories, and the mouth breathers that believe them, are destroying the US
Underrated comment
Conspiracy theories arent bad. Id argue its dangerous to claim conspiracy theories are bad because thats basically saying you should never question the government or people with authority. You should just trust everything the people in power say?
Conspiracy theory: "China knew COVID19 was a highly dangerous virus in early January but purposefully tried to hide it.". Is this conspiracy theory so farfetched and dangerous that we shouldnt discuss the possibility its true?
Conspiracy theories may be bad. It’s the Conspiracy facts that are awful.
But that's not a conspiracy theory, its the truth.
It's the truth that was trumpeted as a conspiracy theory at the beginning.
How is this a conspiracy theory?
I believe by definition a conspiracy is a secret plan by a group of people to do something unlawful or harmful. This would mean that it's a "secret" that China doesn't release or disclose the facts. I'd say that's par for course for them....we know it, they know it... not a conspiracy.
Questioning your government is one thing. Ignoring facts and claiming things are still a conspiracy is just fucking stupidity and it’s dangerous. People should listen to experts and gather information from many sources. The people who believe conspiracy are usually ones who listen to only one source and are fed propaganda that they eat up and actually begin to lose touch with reality I usually just shake my head when I hear them but sometimes it’s a little scary what some people tend to believe
Agree. I enjoy a good conspiracy theory as much as the next guy (I 100% believe that the government is covering up evidence of UFOs, Oswald did not act alone and that the NBA fixed the '02 Lakers-Kings series and secretly suspended Michael Jordan).
But the problem is that everything is a conspiracy now and there's no evidence for any of it. The true facts are often too troubling and painful for some to bear so engaging in these bogus conspiracies gives them a way out. Why demand responsibility from your elected officials when you can blame everything on the Chinese, the Deep State, Hillary/Obama, George Soros, gay frogs, chemtrails, or whatever you want really?.
Yes question the federal government but also be aware that right now a lot of bad actors are trying to capitalize on this pandemic. Russian groups hacked the John Hopkins corona virus website to spread malware (it’s since been fixed). Other organizations are trying to spread dumb conspiracy theories to shake peoples trust in the system. Sounds like this guy with the train got caught up in one of those malicious conspiracies if he thinks a hospital ship is not there for a legitimate reason.
Obviously not all conspiracy theories are bad. History has shown us that. But 99.9% of conspiracy theories are bad. And the people who typically peddle them at high volumes tend to be low IQ morons who refuse to face facts and reason. And whose desperate willingness to believe most if not all conspiracy theories and then refuse to acknowledge when they are wrong 99 or 100% of the time usually snowball into some dumb political movement that generally holds the country back.
"China knew COVID-19 was highly dangerous but tried to purposefully hide it..."
That's not even a conspiracy. That's mostly a fact. That's just a typical authoritarian regime response to disaster. They did a Chernobyl. Nobody disputes that they tried to initially downplay the magnitude of disaster.
Examples of dumbass conspiracies:
"COVID-19 was manufactured in a bio weapons lab and released to the world."
"COVID-19 is just like the flu but all the scientists/public health/news media/politicians are in on some global conspiracy to profit off the market or to usurp our freedoms."
It wasn't just China that was downplaying Coronavirus risks while having evidence that it was going to be catastrophic. What if I told you that it was also known in the highest rungs of power in the USA, and that certain people tried to downplay it even as experts advising them were telling them how dangerous it really was...
Conspiracy theories have a number of scales:
Fun: "Man never landed on the moon"
Dangerous: "Vaccinations cause Autism. Why does the government want to give my child Autism"...
Fun: "Area 51 and Roswell"
Dangerous: "Sandy Hook was a false flag operation to take away peoples guns"
Fun: "The earth is Flat"
Dangerous: "Con trails are evidence of the US government testing chemicals on people"
Fun: "The NFL wants the Patriots to win the Superbowl"
Dangerous: "Hillary Clinton is running a underground pedophilia ring in the basement of a DC area pizza restaurant."
People should question policy if they disagree with them; inventing some wide ranging anti government BS is a corrosive element that gradually destroying the US
Trains are the most effective way to attack a boat
Mark my words. 50 years from now in Annapolis they'll be studying this guy and the innovative advances he made in naval tactics. Our sailors are out there on every ocean right this minute completely vulnerable to sneak attacks by freight trains.
Perhaps my favorite comment ever. Thanks, Sopwith. I am still laughing on and off as I re-read this.
Someone will have to write the sequel to this book, now that avoiding trains is an issue at sea now ...

This thread gave me some necessary laughs tonight. Chefs kiss for the reviews on this book.
I can see the dramatization now:
"Your conclusions were all wrong, Ryan. Moreno acted stupidly."
Thanks a lot. Some admiral will read this and I’ll have to write a simulator for just this scenario.
