Vegas odds if HE leaves
Heard this on radio on way home out here in Portland (believe it or not it's a college football town)
Thought about not posting cause I am a Harbaugh guy, but it is interesting
1. Bronco Mendenhall
2. David Shaw
3. Kyle Wittingham
I hope Harbaugh brings us back, got to beat Iowa.
But if he goes, I would want Chris Peterson #1, Kyle Wittingham would be my #2
If he goes, it will because he resigned at the end of the season

September 23rd, 2019 at 8:39 PM ^
And neither of them will come here so I hope Harbaugh stays
September 23rd, 2019 at 10:20 PM ^
Urban Meyer is the quintessential hired gun.
Unless he's tired of coaching altogether, he'd come with a big enough check.
He'd also leave for a big enough check, so there's that.
September 23rd, 2019 at 10:47 PM ^
No he wouldn’t.
September 23rd, 2019 at 10:49 PM ^
But would we really want to win that way? Lincoln Riley, fine. But Urban? The guy is a world class scumbag who ruins discipline and culture in the long run.
Maybe I'm naive thinking that our program is "above that", but I know I would not be excited to have to root for that guy given his history.
September 24th, 2019 at 1:34 PM ^
You would absolutely root for him if it meant we won more and actually, you know, beat Ohio State more than twice this century. OSU fans knew the guy's history when he was hired. Guess what. They didn't give a shit because they knew that guy would win a lot, which he did. His record over the seven years at OSU is just disgustingly good.
September 24th, 2019 at 1:31 PM ^
Meyer would never coach UM after coaching OSU for seven years.
September 26th, 2019 at 7:33 PM ^
Saban would never coach at Alabama after coaching at LSU. Oh wait.
September 24th, 2019 at 9:01 AM ^
BRENT F’ING VENABLES + TONY ELLIOTT or JEFF SCOTT!!!!
This list seriously makes me want to walk into oncoming traffic. And is the first true sign of Michigan football actually coming to an end. YOU “fans”/alums/donors are such morons that THESE are the only options Michigan football (2nd biggest fanbase in the country; 3rd richest program in the country) has. Its the actual end unless there is a DRASTIC AND IMMEDIATE change amongst all the major decision makers.
BRONCO MENDENHALL!!!!!!??? He’s your best option!!!?? He’s 20-22 in 4 yrs at Virginia!!? He went 4-4 in conference last yr.... in the worst p5 conference in america (basically clemson plus the mac right now)... and you guys are saying he TURNED THEM AROUND???
David Shaw!!? A 1-3 coach is on “the realistic list”. He’d be on our already fired list if he was 1-3 here??? USC, Washington, Washington St, UCLA, maybe Oregon, maybe even Arizona St. have all surpassed in in the Pac12.. and hes our SECOND BEST choice??
Kyle Whittingham — the only guy who isnt passing David Shaw — is next? A 9-5 coach last yr?? 5 loss guys are on our list?? Who haven’t won anything since the Mountain West conference in 2008?? Those guys are on our list??
A guy who just lost 0-42 to Ohio State is on THE F’ING LIST!!!?
A Syracuse coach who just lost 6-41 to Clemson is on THE F’ING LIST!!!!?
A guy with a 21-20 record at Iowa St!!!?
A guy who the entire nation just demanded the scumiest school in the country fire is the only reap name on that list.
Mike Gundy — a guy who went 7-6 last yr (aka FIRED here)... is the best name on the list.
***********
MAYBE. Just Maaaaaaaaaybe. You pompous A-holes should be a little less sensitive about Clemson boosters and Venables not being a “Michigan Man.”
Because the program is about to f’ing die. Dead.
September 25th, 2019 at 1:41 PM ^
Don't undersell it.
September 23rd, 2019 at 8:48 PM ^
Nick Saban or Dabo Swinney. Anybody else would be unacceptable!
September 23rd, 2019 at 8:55 PM ^
Harbaugh is here to stay until he retires.
September 23rd, 2019 at 11:57 PM ^
Um no.
September 24th, 2019 at 2:02 AM ^
I agree if he decides to stay with college coaching he will be here another 15-20 years until he retires. I'm thinking he may want to give the NFL one more time and if this turns into a sour type season, I could see Harbaugh leaving for the NFL, and there are a lot of NFL team who would hire him. After this season he may be back in a rebuilding phase for the next several years and then may be he can get over the elite team hump 4 or 5 years down the road.
September 23rd, 2019 at 8:59 PM ^
Both of those guys are amazing coaches. Neither are coming here. Also, I don’t think every other possibility would necessarily be a downgrade.
September 23rd, 2019 at 9:40 PM ^
Disagree, a lot of people could give us the same results were already getting.
September 23rd, 2019 at 9:48 PM ^
What a stupid take. You really think Harbaugh is the third best coaching mind in football?
He may not even be the third best coach in the state.
September 23rd, 2019 at 10:03 PM ^
Lots of Michigan fans are going through cognitive dissonance.
September 23rd, 2019 at 10:33 PM ^
Harbaugh's pre-Michigan résumé is most likely much better than our next coach's will be - no matter when that happens.
September 24th, 2019 at 12:25 AM ^
Just get a coach who has had two 11 win seasons and his college resume will be superior to Harbaugh’s.
September 23rd, 2019 at 11:05 PM ^
Lol, if only Harbaugh could take flyers on sexual predators that are good at football and have a 3-9 season under his belt, all while having a .500 B10 record the last 4 years. FOH
September 23rd, 2019 at 10:00 PM ^
Exactly. No other coach could go 0-4 vs TUOS, or allow the most points ever in The Game.
Sydney, are you intentionally this idiotic?
September 24th, 2019 at 12:32 AM ^
Dude were 1-14 against OSU the last 15 years, do the math.
September 23rd, 2019 at 10:13 PM ^
I think Michigan fans have gotten better about this, however there are still some fans that think we would get Lincoln Riley.
There is literally a less than zero percent chance he comes to Michigan.
September 23rd, 2019 at 10:35 PM ^
Literally less than zero, huh? What the heck does that even mean?
September 23rd, 2019 at 11:47 PM ^
Literally not literally at all
September 25th, 2019 at 7:16 AM ^
Or want Urban. My accountant was an OSU grad, surprisingly I was never audited I know. He never watched an OSU game when Urban was hired because he put principles over winning. Maybe we should do that. I’d rather Waller in misery every week than see that smug asshole walk our sidelines.
September 23rd, 2019 at 11:22 PM ^
Lincoln Riley was a position coach for Mike Leach at Texas Tech then was an OC at noted powerhouse East Carolina. Then two seasons at Oklahoma as OC and then he got the head job and became boy wonder and coaching savant Lincoln Riley. Anyone see him coming in 2016? Nobody is going to pry Saban or Swinney or Riley etc. away from their schools except maybe the NFL. So the trick, requiring great networking and considerable luck, is to identify the next Swinney or the next Riley. And whoever that may be will likely never be mentioned on any fan blog.
September 24th, 2019 at 12:08 AM ^
Lincoln Riley had an ideal resume before he was hired at OU.
Played QB and coached seven years under one of the best offensive minds in football.
Promoted to be in charge (very important) of the offense at East Carolina and did very well.
S&P+:
2008: (2 years before he arrived): 86th
2009 (year before he arrived): 74th
2010: 33rd
2011: 63rd
2012: 68th
2013: 44th
2014: 33rd
2015: Hired at OU, cuz yeah, dude was doing really well.
So the guy was hired at a program that was understandably towards the bottom of FBS and then himself had seasons that middle-tier P5 programs would be envious of.
It's easier to evaluate a coordinator from a no name school because it's easier to tell if that coach is outperforming his talent.
Hire a guy that is consistently outperforming expectations at the same job you want to hire him for if you have the money Michigan does. Don't hire a major question mark like Gattis who never held the position you're hiring him for. It's not fail-safe (RichRod, cough, cough) but it's much lower risk.
September 23rd, 2019 at 8:04 PM ^
Yikes none of those names really inspire me
September 23rd, 2019 at 8:04 PM ^
No, none.
September 23rd, 2019 at 10:01 PM ^
If Harbaugh theoretically resigns or takes an NFL gig at the end of the season, who is at the top of UM's candidate list?
September 23rd, 2019 at 10:27 PM ^
Does he strike you as having the energy to start a new head coaching job? I think this one is killing him.
September 23rd, 2019 at 10:27 PM ^
If it’s not Matt Campbell then we deserve to be shit.
September 24th, 2019 at 9:40 AM ^
Why the hell do ppl like Matt Campbell??
He’s 21-20 career at Iowa St.
That shouldn’t even be good enough to be on Dantonio’s replacement list
September 24th, 2019 at 11:25 AM ^
I mean it’s Iowa State... what do you expect him to be able to do?
September 23rd, 2019 at 8:46 PM ^
Is this scene from a bad adult film?
September 23rd, 2019 at 9:26 PM ^
Is it really possible to have a bad adult film - assuming you like the genre???
September 23rd, 2019 at 9:38 PM ^
You know, the saying used to be bad pizza and bad college football are better than nothing even when it's bad.
Then we saw that embarrassment on national TV last Saturday.
So yeah, I think it's possible to have a bad adult film.
... and how the fuck is Ron Jeremy employed? And how much money are these girls getting to have that fucking slob climb on top of them? Or so I've heard.
September 23rd, 2019 at 8:07 PM ^
He is not leaving. They will never fire him and he will not quit until he beats OSU. I think he would rather die than leave with that legacy.
September 23rd, 2019 at 8:09 PM ^
god i hope you are right, and I hope that win comes this year when people least expect it
September 23rd, 2019 at 8:13 PM ^
Agreed. Firing Harbaugh is a non-starter unless he does something off the field or the team's performance falls far below what it's been. To the extent that recruits read this board, we're making things worse with these posts.*
*This is not a shot at the OP in particular.
September 23rd, 2019 at 8:53 PM ^
Come on, the recruits are not dumb. They can see a mess just as clearly as we can. I don't think the tipping point in their decision is the level of negativity of posters on Mgoblog.
September 23rd, 2019 at 9:40 PM ^
or the team's performance falls far below what it's been
So if M goes 5-7 this year, which is entirely possible given the body of work thus far, does that qualify as a below performance?
Serious question; not trolling at all.
September 23rd, 2019 at 10:44 PM ^
It would qualify as far below his past performance, but I don't think he's at all likely to be fired for one 5-7 season. Michigan just has too much invested in him - monetarily and otherwise.
Brian Kelly might be an instructive comparison. Remember that Notre Dame kept him after a 4-8 season. Unlike Harbaugh, he'd taken his team to a national title game. But he is not a former star player for the Irish like Harbaugh is for Michigan.
September 24th, 2019 at 12:10 AM ^
Michigan just has too much invested in him - monetarily and otherwise.
Isn't that just throwing good money after bad though? Or how about 2008/9 in this country, look what happened when the gov't said companies were too big to fail!
Brian Kelly might be an instructive comparison. Remember that Notre Dame kept him after a 4-8 season.
Fair enough. +1!!!
September 23rd, 2019 at 11:19 PM ^
The nation is calling us an embarrassment. Mgoblog is the least of our worries for recruits.
September 24th, 2019 at 9:29 AM ^
I wouldn't call it a non-starter. The fanbase is really restless and I imagine that Warde's phone was ringing off the hook this week. This season looks like it is in full meltdown right now. 5-7 is very possible. In that event, I think that there is a 50/50 chance that he gets pushed out the door somehow.
September 23rd, 2019 at 8:15 PM ^
If he leaves it would be on his own terms. I can see him going to the Miami Dolphins, a new challenge there.
