Chris Webber on Rich Eisen show today talking Juwan
Look for a Fab Five reunion in 2019-20. Just a prediction
Oh, there will be a reunion. And the banners will go back up. And just wait until Juwan earns his own first banner...
Honestly I was surprised at how passionately Webber recommended Juwan. Especially the part about him giving Webbers own son advice, how professional he is, etc.
Nobody knows how well Juwan will do, but it seems he's a high character guy that players gravitate towards, at least.
Yes, I was floored by these comments. Both by how mature Webber sounded, and how much passion and loyalty Juwan still has for Michigan. The idea that Juwan would forgo the NBA for the rest of his career is amazing.
I was too. I've been looking for someone to say "I would want my son to play for him."
But he also noted the tutelage under Pat Riley among an outstanding work ethic.
Then he talked about the snow ball fights!
I'm excited for this hire now.
This is probably the most eloquent endorsement of Howard to Michigan i have heard/read. This is very well put together and relayed by Webber. Excellent.
I am very impressed by both Jalen and Webber's articulation and public speech in general.
Chris and Jalen can be petty at times, but they are united in their respect and love for Juwan. I think we'll see them patch things up now that they are not only welcomed around the Michigan program, but will feel an obligation to support him.
Can we have Mary Sue Coleman and Bill Martin there for the reunion and re-raising of the banners? Maybe let the Fab Five’s kids bitch slap them at mid-court? Throw in a public shaming of Rich Rod just for good measure?
Get the Fab 5 together. Have all your top recruits on campus that day.
Beilein was against Midnight Madness. We had one but it was at like 8pm and he did away with it the next year.
Wanna fill Crisler? Have Fab Five reunion and a banner re-raising part of the events at Midnight Madness.
Not to be a downer, but I'm worried that as fans we over rate the impact that the Fab 5 have on today's recruits. As iconic as they were/are, they were in college 10 years before these recruits were born.
If you tell us you wouldn't turn out to see Micheal Jordan, Hakkem, Clyde the Glide, and Larry Bird take part in a banner raising, you're lying.
hmmm check out the most sold college jerseys ,the Fab 5 is still dominating sales
and id bet large sums of cash, that most kids that "live for basketball" know the Fab 5
A wise man once said "this shit aint dying" Jalen talking about the Fab 5 ... 20 years later
Everyone still knows who the Fab 5 is. Two of them are major NBA media personalities — their legacy transcends generations. At a minimum, their coaches and parents all know who the Fab 5 are too.
You aren't a downer. Just might want to re- think your opinion.
I thought the same thing about Penny Hardaway. And yet please look at Memphis recruiting.
My son is 13. He knows who they are and the impact they had on college basketball. He has seen them play some as well.
The Fab 5 transcends all generations, and today’s recruit’s parents assuredly remember.
I wasn't alive during The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd (entire group) Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, etc., run(s) but I’m still a huge fan of them all (in part, due to my parents).
The Fab 5 film has been viewed by all these kids.
They know.
As someone of the general age of recruits, nah. It's an iconic part of basketball. Michael Jordan was before their time too but they still know how massive he was.
it's going to be fab-5-ulous!
CHRIS WEBBER!!!!
Wait so I can assume he wasn’t badmouthing Warde or else someone else would have started this thread?
Wow this gives me goosebumps
That's what I'm talking about.
I was there. It was glorious.
I watched the segment late last night, this one though of Jalen Rose today kinda leaked the hire

Just curious what prevented Chris from coming back when Beilein was around? From everything I've read he gave all those guys an open invitation to be around the program.
Dude
Just shut the fuck up
Please
Dude, no.
Why are so many people so hard on 1201/Maizen? Does he say dumb things sometimes, or think we should get every A coach/5-star!?! Yes. But he does bring value to board. I was happy with some of his post this last week talking about the UM hire + providing updates. Yes, I think we all envy this dudes free time lol. However, some just need to chill out. I am curious why the fab 5 reunion didn’t happen under JB. It wasn’t an awful question.
I hope 1201 shares his negative opinion of Webber or Beilein or whoever. That is just what grinds people. I am sure some of his negative opinions are true but being a debby downer all the time is tiring. So please stop with the "why is everyone hard on him". If he can mix up positives with negatives I feel that he will become a favorite poster because like you said he has some good thoughts. But he just cannot change and will call people names if they call him out.
He says too many stupid things and
types like him give all of the M fanbase a bad persona.
types like him give all of the M fanbase a bad persona.
No... that would be WD tweeting other players.
Twitter is word-wide; mgoblog is niche.
I was already sold on Juwan to give him a shot and this only reaffirms.
And did I hear Webber wrong, or did he make it seem like Michigan is Juwan’s dream job and he’d love to retire living on State Street?
Why wouldn't it be? He was going for NBA jobs because they were open. He couldn't have expected this opportunity so soon.
Why at 1 minute-ish did he say something like... "What made Beilein quit so abruptly. What went on there?"
And then compares him to Magic quitting. LOL 12 years?
Serious question... Was he trying to get at something?
I just got up from an amazing afternoon snooze, so it's most likely me taking something wrong.
Go Blue and hoping for the Fab5 reunion.
I'm guessing Rich and Chris had been discussing Magic's recent departure from the Lakers' presidency prior to this segment. Who knows how up Webber is on the college landscape these days, but I'm guessing he thinks there was behind the scenes drama like there was with Magic.
It means Webber thought Warde didn't do enough to keep Beilein from leaving. The Magic reference was just meant in the context of similar abruptness.
Pretty amazing to think we would have the HC of our two biggest sports who were former star UofM athletes who played at the highest level of their respective pro sports before coming home.
i had the exact same thought, and i assume others did too. cool coincidence. i have a feeling this one could work out just dandy. go blue, go juwan, and welcome.
Getting the long baggy shorts and black socks out of storage for immediate wear...
I’ve never stopped wearing the black socks or shoes since....
Love this sooo much. Welcome home Coach!!!
Well spoken, C Webb
Wow!
Gotta get Jalen, Chris, Jimmy and Ray into the Maize Rage, Denard and Roy style...
