MSU 10th seems high.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:43 PM ^
MSU? FURMAN!!!
Of course, MSU in a smelly sort of way, and Furman in an awesome sort of way.
Michigan gets my first place vote. What team do we not beat right now?
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:43 PM ^
That’s good... Right where we want them when we pound them twice.
Keep giving Izzo top seeds in the tourney and watch him crumble.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:47 PM ^
It is definitely too high, but will be nice for our tournament résumé when we have at least one win against another top-ten team.
December 3rd, 2018 at 3:15 PM ^
I think UNC eventually works themselves back up near or in the top 10. That will be a really good win at season end. Hell, with how bad the Big East is, maybe even Villanova gets back in that range.
December 3rd, 2018 at 4:23 PM ^
I don’t think Nova will but NC certainly can. Lot of teams won’t be able to keep up with their speed/transition game.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:30 PM ^
We are a BASKETBALL SCHOOL!!!
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:30 PM ^
This is good news, but side question. When in the hell did the SEC get so good at basketball?
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:32 PM ^
Bruce Pearl and Auburn pay players .
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:37 PM ^
Last year really. UK is always UK, but Auburn and Tenneessee made big jumps last year and brought back a lot of those teams this year.
The SEC is pretty top heavy though. It's those three teams and then Miss St., who's ranked but best win is Dayton, lost to ASU, and struggled with a down St. Mary's team.
Arkansas might be decent, beat Indiana but lost to Texas, both teams that might be good but we're not sure like Arkansas.
LSU started the season ranked but their best win is close at home over a mediocre Memphis team. Lost close to a good FSU team but got blown out by a mediocre OK St. team.
The rest of the league is bad. Ole Miss and Alabama are 5-2 but haven't beaten anybody. Vandy is 5-2 with a good win over USC but lost to Kent State and lost 5 star freshman PG Darius Garland for the season. They'll struggle to make the tourney now.
So basically it's 3 great teams, a pile of meh, and a pile of crap.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:38 PM ^
The other e$$ eee $ee schools hired away Kentucky bagmen.
December 3rd, 2018 at 1:12 PM ^
They probably didn't, the SEC has become elite at getting overvalued in general by voters though
December 3rd, 2018 at 3:14 PM ^
And who is saying they are any good??? Here's the deal. There are plenty of SEC and BG12 schools that get these flashy ratings...because they have these wonderful athletes who can run and jump out of the gym...and dunk like crazy...some can even shoot well...they have crazy one-on-one skills. They beat up on a crappy early season schedule and look like world beaters. Then they play their in-conference schedule and mostly hold their own...and are continued to be viewed as dangerous. Then they get a decent seed into the big dance and open against the 13 seed-Southwest Northeastern University who makes them play a half-court game and they get knocked out in the first round-by 23 points. And everyone is shocked!!!!!!! Other than Kentucky and Kansas the rest of the schools in these two conferences are all show-they have great athletes whose combined basketball IQ is below ZERO---they don't know how to play the game!!!
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:30 PM ^
Kinda surprised we don’t have a #1 vote based on results thus far.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:35 PM ^
That's what I was thinking also
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:37 PM ^
Especially since I’ve heard this from a few members of the media.
However, Gonzaga has earned the #1 spot and Duke, imo, has the most talent.
Kansas though? Meh.
And UVA, is borderline top 10.

Ann Arbor versus the World
December 3rd, 2018 at 2:26 PM ^
UM has 1 vote for #1 in Coaches looks like.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:30 PM ^
2-loss MSU at #10. The only other ranked 2-loss team is Nova. At #21. JFC.
I don't care who they played. THEY STILL LOST THE GAMES.
EDIT: Missed UNC. Sorry.
December 3rd, 2018 at 1:21 PM ^
MSU specializes in early-season quality losses.
December 3rd, 2018 at 1:34 PM ^
Louisville is still unranked after beating MSU. Not exactly quality.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:31 PM ^
Aw, man, we JUST missed out on the playoff!!! Wait, wut? /s
Yeah, that top 5 is looking pretty blue-blood-y. We belong.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:32 PM ^
19 people voting for Kansas...who almost shit the bed at home vs Stanford.
December 3rd, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
Kansas had tradition. Only Jayhawk fans understand. /s
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:32 PM ^
At #25 ... does that say "Furman"? Or is that a typo?
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:38 PM ^
That's what happens when you start the season 8-0 and beat two teams from last year's Final Four.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:39 PM ^
The Furmies are 8-0.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:39 PM ^
Not a typo. Undefeated and beat Nova and Loyola-Chicago on the road. Granted they're in the 100s in KenPom and almost lost Saturday to Western Carolina. But it's deserved based on resume so far.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:41 PM ^
Furman is undefeated, with wins at two of last year's Final Four teams. They're not the 25th best team in the country -- three of their wins are in overtime, including one in 2OT against KenPom #314 Western Carolina -- but it's not a completely ridiculous ranking.
December 3rd, 2018 at 2:07 PM ^
I forgot they were the ones who beat Villanova after us (always get them confused with Fordham), and didn't know they also beat Loyola. Makes sense now!
December 3rd, 2018 at 4:31 PM ^
I’m definitely a fur man...oh you’re talking about the school.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:33 PM ^
I look forward to knocking more B1G teams down or off this list this year.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:59 PM ^
If we are near the top, we won't knock them down much by beating them. We will need to annihilate them to move their needle.
December 3rd, 2018 at 1:44 PM ^
OK, I'm good with that... Mr. Beilein, annihilate away!!
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:35 PM ^
Top 5... and climbing. Go blue!
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:36 PM ^
We're better than Virginia. No reason we aren't #4 except for previous polls. They beat Wisco by 7 and Maryland by 5. Come on now.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:40 PM ^
Exactly, the poll inertia is strong with UVA. There's no reason they should be ahead of us based on resume
December 3rd, 2018 at 1:29 PM ^
And it's really funny, because all that poll inertia comes from being the first #1 seed to lose to a #16 seed (by 20!!!)...interesting. Must be some kind of reverse magic inertia.
December 3rd, 2018 at 2:34 PM ^
This basically proves that the people voting don't look at the scores of the games, just the W/L column.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:38 PM ^
Should be #4 ahead of Virgina
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:38 PM ^
UVA over Michigan is a joke
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:40 PM ^
UVA getting a decade worth of respect in this poll.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:49 PM ^
MSU getting 2 decades
December 3rd, 2018 at 1:24 PM ^
And how that wasn't all erased when they became the first #1 seed to lose to a #16 seed, I'll never know.
Never mind that they were the #1 overall seed, and especially never mind that it wasn't a fluke loss. They got their asses kicked up and down the court.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:41 PM ^
Should be #4 according to the “eye-test” but rankings at this time are pointless.
Put a beatdown on NU tomorrow and keep the momentum rolling!
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:43 PM ^
Just keep winning and playing our brand of ball and it will all shake out. As many have said, these rankings are worthless at this point, and honestly in general as we are all looking forward to winning regular season conference titles and conference tournaments and then going to the show. I honestly don't care what we get ranked.
Having said that, I agree that there is a bit of unjustifiable homerism here
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:44 PM ^
Preconceived bias has Virginia ahead of Michigan, and MSU at #10. Also not sure if I'd put Kansas ahead of Duke considering that they needed OT to get by Stanford, in Lawrence...
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:44 PM ^
Top 7 in both sports. Wow
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:51 PM ^
Number one in our hearts.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:52 PM ^
Kirby Smart was just on TV whining that Georgia should be No. 4.
