Illinois QB Jeff George Jr Transferring to Michigan
Michigan's QB competition will be interesting. George will be a grad transfer and have 2 years of eligibility left.

Why? Or does this mean Peters has said privately that if he isn't starting, he is gone?
People - he is a walk-on. What the f&ck is wrong with adding a walk-on grad transfer that has some playing experience?
Are we really at the point where we are crapping on walk-ons?
Seriously, holy shit people, calm down. Thread title should be changed to add AS A WALK ON. The terrible prognosticating of multiple inevitable transfers from the QB ranks based on adding A WALK ON is ridiculous.
Also guys, if he comes he will be A WALK ON.
Seriously.
Soooo..... Is he a scholarship guy or is he a walk on?
If you read through this pathetic chicken little thread, he is a scholarship Plan A replacement for both McCaffery and/or Peters. Also Harbaugh/the program is in deep shit because THIS IS YEAR 4 AND QUARTERBACKS AND STUFF.
He is a walk on, the whole scholarship stuff was just a bunch of morans overreacting to football news in the middle of June.
LMAO!!!!! gotta love the wannabe M fans who just knee jerk reactions:-)
When we're up 35 after the first quarter in 2019, he can have 3 quarters of garbage time to run up the score.
Against Illinois.
In an ironic comparison to his old man, he has an average arm but is a great teammate!
This comment wins!
I thought he looked competent when he played for Illinois. He can sling it around the field. Other than that, I'm not sure why this is happening. Perhaps a change in the QB depth to come out later?
Weren't there 2 USC QBs who were drafted but never started? Is it possible that 2 years of coaching from Harbaugh and staff, plus the recommendation to NFL scouts & GMs as a backup is enough to get him a shot in the NFL?
Matt Cassel is one of them. I'm not sure if there is another though.
Matt Gutierez(sp?) I believe... I do know they both played for the Patriots
Gutierrez was stuck behind Chad Henne here at Michigan, and transferred to Idaho State to get some playing time. He never was at USC.
Besides Matt Cassel, Brad Johnson is the only QB I know of who didn't start in college but had a long pro career. Johnson was stuck behind Peter Tom Willis and Casey Weldon at Florida State in the early 90s.
Thought it was John David Booty
That has to be what he is hoping. Honestly I can't see him being any higher then 4th on the depth chart this year and then maybe 2nd or 3rd the following year depending on who comes back.
I don't ever seeing him playing significant time. Hopefully he's also looking at the value of a UM graduate degree with this decision. Strange move by him, if he wants to play though.
11 TDs to 15 INTs and a completion% at 48%. I don't care how bad the rest of the offense is, that's pretty terrible. Can't imagine he's coming here with any realistic expectations of playing. Seems like a "break glass in case of emergency" kind of guy.
"Break glass in case of emergency..."
Last year would have (should have?) seen a lot of broken glass lying around.
The only game I watched him in was against Michigan, where he was 4/15 with one TD in garbage time.
Can he play LT?
I'm sure the coaches looked into that. After all, every QB at Michigan has to beat the WDE.
This makes no sense and frankly we should have passed on him.
I see what you did there! We should have just thrown his application away.
Username checks out
We had trouble passing on anyone last year.
Cute. You almost won the internet today. But there was one earlier today that got it.
I honestly checked the date of each of those links to make sure they weren't posted in April 1st.
The only scenario making sense here might be that Coach Harbaugh wanted a more experienced backup QB in case of injury.
Or, maybe he's not certain of Brandon Peters, and Dylan McCaffrey needs more development before he starts.
This isn't even being reported on the pay sites. I don't think this is what it seems. There's been no talk regarding him at all.
Well, in Jan. he announced that he was transferring so maybe this is what it seems.

The Rivals link in the OP specifically quotes George stating that he is transferring to Michigan provided his graduate application is accepted.
Oh, it is happening. Make no mistake about that. Things are going to be interesting through fall camp. I hope everyone caught Jim's remarks on his podcast about the roster.
What did he say?
Is Peters likely to leave the team at this late juncture?
By the way, JH personally escorted Jeff George Jr. around campus last week. Obviously, he knows his Father well. We will have to see how all the attrition/additions work out on scholarship numbers. Jim commented on his podcast something to this effect:
"Several scholarship players are currently not listed as among the top 110 roster players who will be allowed to practice with the team in August."
Does that mean we are at 84 or a little lower?
P.S. Maybe somebody can dig up the exact quote.
I listened to the podcast yesterday while at work and I stopped what I was doing when I heard that. Quite interesting to see what the roster looks like/ who is and isn't practicing come August. Also seemed to sound like the team is going to be mostly walk ons if you only listened to that one podcast and knew nothing else about the team.
It was a significant point as he acknowledged what we already knew. Attrition happens and more is on the way. The word "several" caught my attention as I thought we were in the area 2-3 area and not 3-6.
I don't know I kind of agree with Sam Webb. He'll come on as a walk-on and be a solid scout team QB. Also, this will be added bonus of networking if he's trying to get into coaching. Michigan is a great place to start a coaching career after your playing days and being even a tiny part of the Harbaugh circle is huge.
People need to calm down on this board. No Sophomore/Freshman is leaving because a grad transfer comes in.
Aren't you being a little dramatic? "People need to calm down". Who's over excited? Jeff George Jr is not very good, and nothing has been confirmed on whether this is a walk on, and unless someone is leaving or Peters and McCaffrey suck, this is not a very good use of a scholarship for the next 2 yrs. He should be able to develop anyone on the roster to play to Jeff George Jr's capabilities.
LOL i'm being dramatic? The first comment on this thread is (just looked; it's you) someone asking if this means Peters is transferring. And I wasn't just talking about this thread, any time QB is brought up or qb competition is brought up everyone questions who is transferring. When Shea came in it was because someone was transferring or they will be now.
So yes, i stand by what i said, people need to calm down.
Wasn't Jeff George Jr. a walk-on at Illinois? I seem to recall from the 2016 game this was brought up multiple times and that it was his first start, and he was only starting due to injury. I didn't follow Illinois last year because 1.) they weren't on the schedule and 2.) they blend in with the rest of the terrible B1G west so I'm not sure if he got a scholarship at some point.
If he is actually a PWO this thread will go down as a massive overreaction.
There was an article about this on mlive:
http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.ssf/2018/06/race_to_make_michigan…
"Who the best players are," Harbaugh said on the podcast. "And there already is scholarship players who aren't in the 110, and there's walk-ons -- preferred walk-ons -- who are in the 110. "And there are tryout guys who made it that way that are in the 110."
Personally showed him around? Is Peters dead in his heart?
The starting QBs in upcoming seasons? : Patterson, George, McCaffrey
Great. Now I have to get caught up on the Harbaugh family (Harbaumily?) podcast. You know, all these one-line updates you give us are great information. But they are sometimes incomplete, and therefore frustrating!!!
(I get that you can't do a verbal vomit of everything you know - and please don't jeopardize your standing!)
Sorry brother, sometimes there isn't a whole lot more to give. I honestly didn't want to dig through that podcast again for the quotes. Most important piece of the puzzle is attrition. Sure, two have departures been announced without names from UM. Yet, the numbers don't add up. So, it is something for the fan base to follow.
Are you upbeat on this? Outside looking in, doesn't seem like things are stable for Year 4 of a QB Guru. At some point recruits have to look at this and wonder what is going on.
Th QB Guru's first "guy" is McCaffrey, who is a redshirt freshman. Patterson is an experienced gap filler, who Harbaugh would have liked to picked in 2015.
I know many teams play first and second year QBs, but I am betting most are simpler offenses with less post snap reads. Thus, so far experience and maturity has beaten out talent. When talent and maturity align is when we'll see Guru results. ASSUMING we have a competent O-Line.
peters was his first guy
