OC hire imminent, Herbstreit is excited, other hints
Herbstreit's tweet:
“@LongStrider86: any names come to mind for a good fit as michigan's new OC?” I know and so will you very soon. And you'll be pleased
— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) January 9, 2014
Second Herbstreit tweet (I am editing out the Balas tweet because he is a douchecanoe. Can I say douchecanoe on the internet? After further review, yes I can. Mods can censor if they want.):
“@BCrandall11_9: @KirkHerbstreit is Rob Chudzinski going to be next OC for UofM?” No, current OC in college. That's it. Good pm
— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) January 9, 2014
Other hints:
- NFL Assistant has been tossed around a lot: Herbstreit's tweet says it is a current OC in college
- TomVH tweeted about John McNulty, but not sure if he has any inside info (no longer relevant)
- @CoachingSearch, who is pretty well known in the profession, dropped the names of Lane Kiffin, John McNulty, Mike Groh, and Randy Fichtner
- Sam Webb seems to know who it is, but isn't giving it away. According to the other mgoblog thread (h/t jack daniels), Sam hints that it is NOT Loeffler, Terry Malone, Parrish, Groh, Kiffin, Bloomgren, Treadwell, or Chudzinski.
- According to mgouser Amutnal, the hire will be announced tomorrow.
- Here's a link to another interesting mgouser comment about a well-known school's OC being hired. Prepare to posbang or negbang him after the fact.

That's because it wouldn't be an exciting hire

I think you might be onto something.

I give up on posting this stuff. Now I'm getting word that this may not be happening. Oh well, so much for being the guy in the know...

this screams Cam Cameron to me. I mean, Herbie has prematurely placed an LSU coach at Michigan before.
January 8th, 2014 at 8:30 PM ^
Book it.
January 8th, 2014 at 8:30 PM ^
Wow, so they must have talked to some candidates while Borges was still on staff.
January 8th, 2014 at 9:09 PM ^
I'm guessing Hoke informed Borges that he wouldn't be retained awhile ago and just didn't announce it. That happens quite a bit.

Why would he leave Bama?
January 8th, 2014 at 8:38 PM ^
Saban also invited Lane Kiffin to "evaluate" the offense during bowl practices, and he thinks highly of him. Kiffin did NOT fuck with Saban while he was at UT, so there's that.

I can't see him making this up. This is a pretty big thing to just invent out of thin air. He could easily just say, "We'll let you know as soon as we find out" since the firing just happened.

but that handle belongs to the guy Herbie was responding to.
January 8th, 2014 at 8:34 PM ^
He will be the highest paid OC in the nation. You heard it here first!
January 8th, 2014 at 8:39 PM ^
He is due $1.3m in 2014. The highest paid this year was Chad Morris from Clemson at a little more than that. Cameron could easily see $1.5m.
Cameron is also my pick.

I believe 5:31 is the time stamp.
But I'm glad to share the credit

LSU has a great recruiting class, and you never know...
Any coach from another college program brings the posibility of dragging a few recruits with them, so that will be interesting.
This hire may also help shore up George Campbell for 2015.
January 8th, 2014 at 8:35 PM ^
From the people I know at the university, They have said there will be a hire by tomorrow and it will be an OC from a well know school.
January 8th, 2014 at 8:38 PM ^
Well known school...
Doug Nussmeier of Bama?
January 8th, 2014 at 8:39 PM ^
Well crap, just five minutes ago I decided I wanted this Stitt guy!
January 8th, 2014 at 8:43 PM ^
From MichGoBlue858 (this poster) on November 13:
"The thing is there is absolutely no way Borges is getting fired. Both Hoke and the athletic department are behind him. We'll have to just weather the storm I guess."
"I know some people, I would rather not say who. Take that as you will."
His sources either suck or don't exist.
January 8th, 2014 at 8:44 PM ^
Yeah, I was wrong about that. Sorry, things change I guess. I'm not some big insider, just have family that works for the university.
January 8th, 2014 at 8:48 PM ^
Fair enough. We've had some fake insiders come through, so I'm always skeptical. Circumstances change and sources make mistakes, though, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on this one. If you're wrong, then I'm going to neg every post you've ever made.*
*Until I get bored with that, which will probably happen after zero times.

Ha, sounds good to me.

I suspect it's Cam Cameron! That would make my day!
January 8th, 2014 at 8:45 PM ^
What would bring him here? Cash? They don't have that at LSU?
Maybe Hoke is less of a nut job to work for than Miles?
January 8th, 2014 at 8:50 PM ^
Both possible reasons.
We'd certainly make him one of the highest paid coordinators around if he came.
Hoke being less of a nut job is not really speculation, I'd call that a fact.
Other possible reasons:
He worked with Greg Mattison. Maybe he wants to reunite with his buddy?
Hell, maybe he just likes Michigan. He was here for a long time.
Cameron taking this job seems realistic to me.
January 8th, 2014 at 8:53 PM ^
Sounds convincing enough.
I forget, why did he leave Michigan when he did?
January 8th, 2014 at 8:56 PM ^
January 8th, 2014 at 9:00 PM ^
According to the always reliable Wikipedia, Cameron was WR/QB coach from 1985-93 and then left to be QB coach of the Washington Redskins. Perhaps he left because he wanted to try out the NFL and/or he got a raise?
January 8th, 2014 at 8:58 PM ^
Hoke has been insulted a lot of times on this blog, but this might be the worst.
January 8th, 2014 at 8:36 PM ^
Not going to be able to sleep tonight.....

January 8th, 2014 at 8:39 PM ^
So....it's a college guy and some say it is a wow factor hire. Is Wheatley ready for an OC job? He would be a wow factor for Michigan fans not sure for the country though.
January 8th, 2014 at 8:39 PM ^
I will say this, its weird how plugged Herbie seems to be with random stories like this being that he's no different than any other former-player-turned-analyst. He's been wrong before, but still.
