Hypothetical: Would you pay $5 to watch the Final Four at Crisler
Not to get people's hopes up for nothing, but given that Michigan got only 700 student tickets and the ticket brokers have made a lovely little market around $500 per, would you pay $5, either to the AD or let's say a donation to Mott's - to watch the Final Four with a couple thousand Michigan fans? Obviously it might be difficult to organize logistically on a short time schedule, but other than that, why wouldn't this work?
I'll be at the bar (if an ATL trip falls through). Though, I could possibly see myself going if a group of friends went and we brought in some "water" bottles.
If the weather was a little better, I'd say the Big House, but it looks like rain. The big issue for the Final Four games is no booze in Crisler. I can set up for food and booze with some friends for both games and make an event out of it. Whereas at Crisler I'm limited to the concession stands and no booze.
The sticking point seems to be crowd behavior after Final Four events. Even though we're not as bad as Lil Bro, last time we went to the Final Four, crowd control was a definite issue. Not sure if the AD would want to prearrange the potential mob.
If you can get everyone together in a place where the fans can't drink for 3 hours during the game, after you've got that whole subset who are less likely to rage.
I mean, back in the day they didn't have any problems around the Athletic Campus and such. It was mainly places like South U....around the bars, and close to where people were living and drinking and came out to be with the people filling out of the bars.
We definitely need a watch party at Crisler or Michigan Stadium.
It should be at Crisler. Crisler is the basketball arena - it should be there and not the stadium. Plus this would offer fans who might not have gone to games this year the chance to see how much nicer it looks after the renovations. Also, I think the seats are closer to the video boards at Crisler.
Absolutely I would, especially for a charity.
Heck yes.
$5 for a ticket with an opportunity to donate more if you want.
All you're talking about his having housekeeping clean pre/postgame, open 2 concessions stands, close off half the bathrooms and have 1 facilities person unlock the doors.
Sorry, I work in athletes...had to break it down. This is pretty harmless and easy to run. Michigan should be all over it.
Brandon is probably on his way to Atlanta, but I'd suggest someone that is in Ann Arbor write a letter or get some admin involved, things like this can be organized pretty quickly.
I don't know if we're hosting Baseball, Softball, Tennis, etc. but it would be a great opportunity to piggyback those events along with the Basketball game that night.
100% yes. I've always wondered why the school didn't do more of this.
For $50 a pop, I could see DB actually considering it.
I'd pay $10 to watch the Final Four on an old television set if it meant I was surrounded by fellow Michigan fans. I live in South Carolina, so watching Michigan atheletics with fellow fans is not something I take for granted.
I live in Williamston, about twenty minutes from Greenville. My wife graduated from USC last year, so I was in the Cola area pretty frequently. I occassionally run into Michigan fans here when there is a big game, but thats about it.
Shouldn't you have written something like this?
For just ten dollars
I would watch the Final Four
With other M fans
Next time I'll ask for your help
When I want to post
Anyone with an MCard was let in. They did a punt-pass-kick competition, pictures at midfield, and other stuff. I think it would be cool if they did something like that for the public.
I heard that The University is hosting a free viewing event at Chrysler for students only.
I'd rather stay in Ann Arbor. Auburn Hills is too far just to watch a basketball game. =)
Chrisler. To be fair, there is a Chrysler Center on North Campus.
You heard me.
up to $10, and be giddy about it.
Yes, and so would all my friends.
College students of the Final Four schools are definitely going to be a minority in the Georgia Dome. Tickets for anything of high (even niche) demand are getting out of control now. I guess part of it is supply and demand, but I'm sure more involved is ticket buying software and greed. I don't mind paying absurd prices directly to the UM Athletic Department or even to a student (knowing the cash will be spent on alcohol, drugs, food or rent gives me a good feeling). When you go through some secondary market site or even directly from the NCAA, your money is going into some greedy bastard's pocket. Most likely, the guy on the left.
although it was a while ago. My sister was a student from 92-96, so she got to see the Fab Five in action live her freshman year, and they actually showed the '93 Final Four and Championship games at Crisler. She was there for the final and related to me how crushed everyone was.
That said, if I were a student, that would be a pretty cool experience and I would totally go.
I was also a freshman during the 1993 Final Four and watched the Kentucky and UNC games at Crisler. To this day, those are two of the best sporting events I ever attended -- even though I was just watching the events on a ginormous TV. It was great to be surrounded by so many fans who were so passionately into the games (even more so than some of the regular season games actually played at Crisler). The Kentucky win was 1000 times better having shared it with all the Maize and Blue Faithful, and the UNC loss was somehow much more tolerable because we all shared in the disappointment; it was like group therapy. I'm too far away to join in this time, but everyone who can should.
I would bring myself and try to get others to attend as well (there are 10-15 people in this building alone that would jump at the chance, including some MGoLurkers that I know of). If something like this could be organized in a short space, I would definitely be there.
Heck yes, I would even drive over from Chi-town for it!
For this, would it be helpful if everyone spammed the Athletic Department's email(s)?
Back in 1993 they did it. It was amazing...other than the result. I was only 13 at the time but I had an awesome time and it is one my favorite sports memories. I hope they pull it together again.
But don't tell Dave Brandon.
I would have a ton of people that would come
I would be all over this, although I couldn't make it until the final on Monday. I'll even drive up from Columbus for it! ...and also for work, which I do every month for one week in the office (I'm normally remote).
Yes.
Still "Yes."
I'll bet some really dim people thought you were talking about them actually playing it there.
I dunno, 5 bucks seems a little steep for me in that case.
Yes.
Or be forced to buy $60 tickets for Air Force? If not, then I think it is a great idea. I'm in!!
Tell me that won't be a party! Make it happen David!
Go Blue!
That's exactly what I did for the '92 Final Four.
