Packers to let go of Charles Woodson
Boo hiss. He was the only reason I ever kind of rooted for you, Green Bay.

Absolutely. But they need to have cap space to sign thier new draft pick Denard Robinson to be a Mr Everything for Chip Kelly's offense (at least this is how it all plays out in my head...)

I can't imagine they would have released him if that was the case. They just would have restructured, like what Vick just did with the Eagles.

ITT: I hope my team gets Charles Woodson.
February 15th, 2013 at 12:48 PM ^
This is a sad day...for the Packers.

Woodson wants to play for a contender. He's not looking for the biggest paycheck at this point in his career. The Lions have almost no chance of signing him.
That said, I hope they figure out a way to snake oil him!

As a Lions fan living in Wisconsin, I will not miss feeling all warm and tingly seeing him on the field in a green and gold uniform. I hated that feeling. I just couldn't cheer against Woodson.
I think Mott Children's Hospital has a fundraising job open for him if he's interested in not playing football again.

You gotta be kidding me.

I would take him over any current Lions defensive back. If we had cap room.
February 15th, 2013 at 1:34 PM ^
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a Packer fan this just completely ruined my day.

Good, now I don't have to watch Packers games anymore. I watch the Packers because my dog loves the Packers because his name is Charles Woodson. He loves to hear his name. He gets excited.
February 15th, 2013 at 1:41 PM ^
If this leads to Woodson retiring, or eventually when he does retire, I hope the AD department looks into bringing him back to Michigan in some official capacity.

Brady + Woodson together in New England.
Make it so.

so long as Charles only strips his teammate Tom while Tom's arm is still moving forward (and not after he "tucks" it).
February 15th, 2013 at 2:38 PM ^
Now I can really root for Detroit and Suh to pile drive their QB! F the Packers always!
February 15th, 2013 at 2:55 PM ^
Charles Woodson should go to Denver and get the locker right next to Peyton Manning, so he can display his Heisman Trophy for Peyton to see every day ater practice.

My favorite player, and will continue to be my favorite player with my newly crowned second favorite team. From the Heisman run in '96 to being the emotional force behind the SB run in 2010, he's been at the center of my relationship with football my whole life. Plus I've volunteered with him, seen him endow a scholarship and fund a hospital. Perhaps the whole Michigan Man thing is overused, but Chuck is the ultimate Michigan Man.
All that having been said, as a Packers fan and sharholder this may well have been for the best as a business decision. That's a pretty huge cap hit for a man pushing 37.

Do not want him to return to Ohio in any way, on any team, in any capacity. He's a Michigan man.

Ooooh I like it!

Schwartz is a massive douche and a horrible head coach. I hope that he does not see it...for Charles sake.
February 15th, 2013 at 4:31 PM ^
To not liking Green Bay. The Patriots see like a logical choice. He's had a decent career....
National Title and Heisman, NFL Defensive MVP and Super Bowl Champ.
February 15th, 2013 at 5:06 PM ^
How many guys have done this?
- Heisman
- College National Championship
- NFL MVP (or Defensive MVP)
- Super Bowl Champ
Can't be a big number...he will, of course, add NFL HOF to that list before too long. My guess is that less than 10 guys have pulled this off.
EDIT: Did a quick look...is Woodson the only guy to pull this off? He might be...
February 15th, 2013 at 4:43 PM ^
I'll root for him if he moves to another team, but let's be honest, the end is near.
February 15th, 2013 at 5:30 PM ^
than see him staining his career playing for the Lions at Fraud Field.
February 15th, 2013 at 6:27 PM ^
Well he said he wants to play for a super bowl contender...that leaves the lions out.

I'll always love Charles Woodson, a guy who made me feel proud in 1997 to be a MICHIGAN WOLVERINE and someone I can always point to as being representative of the best of the best of what we have to offer.

New England should pick him up....reunite Woodson and Brady. Woodson has a couple good seasons left
