META: Board/post comments you never want to see again
You know the ones that bug you. I know the ones that bug me. Here's to a little Saturday-morning catharsis.

I think it's one thing to have a little fun after the fact with a shared board moment (judicious use of references to Alex Kozen's protracted decision, for example, or any number of recruits said to go to bed a Wolverine and wake up as a ________). I know that there is not unanimous agreement on this first point, but I find it to be fun. It is another thing to endlessly invoke those players in "forget it, XXX is not coming to Michigan because Garnett/Treadwell/whoever did not" without any real analysis, or (much worse) bashing kids for their college choices.

Once I attempted to downvote a comment as flamebait, but it upvoted instead. I then attempted the same thing on a reply to the comment but it upvoted as well. Not really a post complaint, but it did make me sad at the time.

...telling you to lighten up.
I hardly ever down-vote comments. Flamebait should be used very judiciously, IMO.

"If you don't like the post don't read it." Or its brother phrase, "If you don't like the thread don't click on it." Completely obnoxious. How about I start a topic saying, "Poster X is a fucking asshole." Hey, don't click if you're offended.
"This guy is a stud!!!" Oh, we're recruiting him so he can breed more of him, instead of to play football?
"I'm hearing that...." I actually don't see this on MGo too much, it's usually the pay-subscription sites. It's one thing when the sites operators do it. It's annoying as fuck when some schlub read something in the newspaper or on another site and passes it along by saying, "I'm hearing that...." You're not special and you don't have "sources."
January 26th, 2013 at 11:19 AM ^
And don't get me started on threads clearly marked as OT that get responses to the effect of "And this pertains to Michigan... how?" It's marked OT. If you don't care, don't click.

more about how good this team is after [insert number of games remaining until the end of the season]."
Translation: We will know how good this team is after the season has been played. Brilliant!

You're right. That word should only be reserved for Tom Gholston.

It'd be great, but it would also be the only moderation option ever used, because ALWAYS MONKEY RODEO.

*OP makes an OT topic about Lions/Pistons/Red Wings/Tigers*
first post: "Who cares"

I feel like I may be the only one who feels this way based on voting patterns, but I could really do without "This is Michigan" being used in response to any dissenting opinion as if it's an argument. It's cool when Brady does it, from everyone else it is getting a little played out.

I haven't had time to really read this thread, because it "isn't my cup of tea," but does anyone see the irony of making people look at something they "never want to see again?"
January 26th, 2013 at 12:04 PM ^
But technically, I think the OP wants us all to read every comment, memorize them, and Never do these things again.
Then the Blog will be PERFECT.
Rainbows and unicorns, people! Rainbows and unicorns.

Hey OP, Festivus was last month.

One thing I am definitely not tired of is people calling others out when they mistakenly refer to Tom Gholston as Will.
January 26th, 2013 at 11:44 AM ^
People often downvote posts that they disagree with, even if there is nothing offensive in the post. Hide ratings should be reserved for obvious flaming and trolling.
January 26th, 2013 at 11:57 AM ^
I downvote Buckeyjonr everytime I see him because he's a Buckeye and he was mean to me last summer. He's the only one, though.
Also, he called me a man, I called him out on it, and he got all snippy. "How was I supposed to know?? I don't know if you are white or black..." Well, then don't say "he" if you don't know. I don't call you "Grumpy old white dude Buckeye" without knowing if they all apply.

especially in all caps. Repeating of the F's And the U's in all caps is super annoying. We are all watching it, we know the other team scored.
January 26th, 2013 at 11:51 AM ^
"Don't panic, but" (usually with regards to recruiting). I'm a grown-ass man. I'll panic when I want to panic.

The designation "overrated." I have no idea what this means, especially as it relates to pretty neutral posts. Also, "trolling," especially when it's not. "Trolling" should be reserved for those obviously hateful posts, as opposed to the posts where someone is just being somewhat negative.
January 26th, 2013 at 12:50 PM ^
January 26th, 2013 at 2:51 PM ^
I would much prefer "stupid" to "overrated." I like clarity.
January 26th, 2013 at 12:57 PM ^
I use "overrated" when I mean "incoherent" or "absurd". Don't worry about the adjectives; there isn't enough choice for any of them to be meaningful.
January 26th, 2013 at 3:18 PM ^
I use "overrated" when I feel a post is rated over what it should be rated.
January 26th, 2013 at 2:46 PM ^
I see it as covering everything not explicitly listed. It means the score of the post (or the rating, if you will) is too high, whatever it may be. If the post is rated a five and you think it's only worth a four, go ahead and moderate that shit down with the "overrated".
