Not "awashed." Please fix.

Down three with 30 seconds left, I thought that foul call on Wisonsin's dunk was more frustrating. Gave them the tie. It seemed to work out when Hardaway knocked down the 3, but after all the no calls on Burke and McGary drives, that was ludicrous.

Is that Mattison sitting front row and to the right of the batter? When the cameras show the batter step back from the plate, you can get a good look.

A few months ago when all the Bounty-gate stuff was breaking and Saints fans were accusing the NFL and ESPN of "having it out for them," Cowherd went on a rant about how they all sounded just like OSU fans whining about how the NCAA was out to get them regarding the tattoos and Tressel's screw-ups. He then said something long the lines of "Wake up, Saints fans. The NFL isn't out to get you, but they also don't need you. You're new money. You're not the Giants or the Packers. You're not Michigan or Alabama Football. You're Oregon. You're hot now, but no one will care that much if you go away for a while."
It was satisfying, if inflammatory.

Anyone else catch the UM reference on Justified a few weeks ago? The character Quarles (who is awesome, btw) is from Detroit, and says he's a Michigan B-school grad. He follows that up with a "Go Blue." I was fully hard.

Felt I had to comment since my mug is featured in this post.
I respect Brian's affinity for stats and numbers, but I think this is one of those cases in which they only paint part of the picture.
If he wants to believe that luck is the primary factor that explains the turnover discrepency between RR's teams and team 132, and that "if the season were played 1,000 times" then they would both be a lot closer to the mean, than that's fine. But I don't buy it. Teams practice turnover drills and swarming to the football for a reason.

Kozan Announcement = New standard for recruit foreplay
I'm still catching up on sleep from that Sunday night F5 nightmare.

I lose awareness of anything and evrythign apart from the game. I go from wild jubilation to scathing wrath from one play to the next. If Michigan is not executing every facet of the game perfectly, I am a colassal prick. Any questions directed my way by anyone apart from a daily MGoBlog reader will be ignored or answered in two words or less.
My fiancee went to MSU, and during the game tomorrow I will look on her with different eyes (the enemy!) and wonder how I ever thought she was cool enough to date. It usually takes us a week to fully recover from my bad behavior.

Absolutely. What better could you have hoped for? They actually look somewhat old school, and understated. Nothing tops our regular dark unis, but this is about the best we could have hoped for, and I actually think they're pretty cool. Hats off adidas.

"Clown" is the perfect adjective for Gee. Makes you appreciate that no one really associates Mary Sue Coleman with our footall program. School presidents should focus on academics, not sports. That's the AD's job.

Meyer isn't going to take over a program that's caught under the shadow of the ban hammer. Dantonio, on the other hand ...

Don't sound too excited about our good fortune Brian. This read like a post from a melancholy Spartan or OSU fan, bemoaning a sad turn of fate.

Anyone know enough about SDSU or Ball State to talk about Borges' track record with WRs? After passing on Lucien, and considering this non-offer of Smith, just wondering if we have evidence to support or bemoan his seeming reticence to go after some highly-rated WRs.
|2 years 6 weeks ago||Rolling||
I think we'll have to put a strong product on the field this fall to hold onto everyone, but so far just an unbelievable job. Obviously Urban Meyer was right: Mattison is an absolute animal on the recruiting trail. That's probably why we sent our D Coordinator to Ohio to meet with Dunn.
Just for comparison's sake, I looked around at what other high-profile programs had been up to recruiting-wise; we're toe-to-toe or ahead of everyone ... except Texas. Holy moly: 9 four stars and 3 five stars. I don't understand how they don't win a championship every other year. Just goes to show recruiting can take you only so far.

Apart from a couple local guys that probably would have gone to MSU regardless of who was coaching at Michigan, when have we ever not domintated MSU in recruiting?
|2 years 7 weeks ago||Epic deer story||
I haven't thought about this in a very long time, but since you've given me the perfect opportunity to wax nostalgic:
During my freshman year I lived at Markley. Late one spring night I ended up very inebriated on north campus (accompanied a girl home who lived up there, was not asked to spend the night) and, since it was a nice evening, I decided to walk home. Because I was a few dozen deep, I also decided to sing to myself to pass the time; I guess my voice sounded cool to me after a case of beer. I was somewhere on Fuller Road near the Arb, singing Neil Young (I think it was "Out on the Weekend" ... I was somber after striking out), when I saw a deer grazing back in the woods. I stopped and watched. The deer watched me back, then walked into the woods. For no logical reason, I decided to follow the deer into the woods (!). After about 50 yards the trees opened up into a little clearing, and I was suddenly in the presence of 15 or 20 deer, of all sexes and ages. They were grazing in small clusters, and regarded me as a curiosity rather than a threat. I was still singing Neil Young, which I was convinced had somehow communicated my benign intentions to the deer, and I decided to sit down against a tree. I stayed for about 10 mins, and the deer basically ignored me. Then I got up and walked back to Markley, where none of my buddies believed my ridiculous story.
No I was not on any pyschotropic substances that night. But yeah, deer on North Campus man ... good times.

#1 LB pick from the Big Ten. #4 overalll LB pick in the draft. Way to go Jonas!
|2 years 7 weeks ago||You made your bed JT...||
Now sleep in it. I want him around for a few years to kick around. Plus if he leaves, a new guy can come in and talk to recruits without Tressel's baggage. I want JT to wallow in his own muck here for a while. Agree with the NYT
|2 years 7 weeks ago||Relax man||
First of all, it was a joke. Second of all, I was referring more to the atmosphere around Ann Arbor, not the racial makeup. I meant that A2 has lots of Volvos and coffee shops and NY Times subscribers, and all the other things that make the stuff-white-people-like list.
|2 years 7 weeks ago||DB stock up?||
This might actually answer some questions about RR's anger after being let go. I wondered why RR was bitter about being fired in January when it seemed like DB had been trying to give the guy every opportunity, including the bowl game, to hold onto his job. Maybe RR was pissed because he realized DB was never going to retain him and had torpedoed his job opps? Still doubtful, but would have been a genius move on DB's part. Also a dick move, and I'd have even more respect for RR for not trashing us after leaving.
|2 years 7 weeks ago||A2||
Um, Ann Arbor is about the white-est place on Earth. I loved it there, but I can understand how it might not appeal to all of these kids.
|2 years 11 weeks ago||Good point||
Tressel may not be a big enough hypocrite to cast stones. But I still want him around long enough to knock him off his high horse a bit. I mean, Woody Hayes attacked a kid, and he's still a god down there. If Tressel is forced out, he'll write a few mea culpas and a book about overcoming mistakes, and he'll still be a living legend in Ohio for decades to come because he consistently beat us. I want him around for a few years to helm the ruin.
|2 years 11 weeks ago||Didn't want it this way||
It seems like I'm in the minority, but I'd rather beat Tressel and the Buckeyes at full strength without all of these distractions. If they've gained an unfair advantage by bribing players to come to Columbus, than that has to stop. But personally I'll be a little bummed out if their program gets blown up, or Tressel is shown the door before we can exact a little revenge.
I hate tOSU, but I love our rivalry and think it is better for everyone when we're both at the top of the Big 10.
