FFCB05 is the official color. That's what we got. That's what won the poll. Quit being cry babies.

Deal. With. It.

I didn't open your I'm certain HI-larious link, but I tried to post an honest-to-goodness knee slapping funny zinger of a retort to one of your usual lame ass trolls following the game, but before I could hit send all your posts disappeared... I was SO disappointed!

The question is how are you back on the blog? And why?

Who was bitching about it? I'm not asking to be a smart ass, I just legitimately hadn't seen anybody complain about these unis yet. Personally, I was thrilled to see a more realistic shade of the color over the standard Adidas neon version. If it weren't for the logo, you wouldn't be able to tell these were Adidas at all. That's a small victory in my book.

Earlier thread from yesterday where a good portion of the people suddenly didn't like the og maize making a return. Now it's apparently too dark ROFL.

I swear people are just trolling at this point regarding the maize color.

And if you read the analysis of that poll, you would know Seth had labeled 'the official maize' , which he acknowledged skewed results. Once he removed that label, the majority of the voting went for a lighter shade of yellow/gold.

I thought we looked great Thursday. I would still prefer a slightly lighter maize, like the color Mich wore in Woodson's day (and basically for my whole lifetime). I'm not that pumped our colors are now indistinguishable from Cal, WVU, and several other schools.

Exactly.  Those results are completely invalid and, in fact, without being told which was the official maize, people preferred a lighter maize.  Therein lies your hypocrisy: the people who chose the "official" color because they wanted to be right, even though they might have actually preferred something else.

In the end, there's nothing wrong with preferring a different shade.  The shade has always been evolving - for decades.  It wasn't a new phenomenon.  I don't know why we need to berate fellow Michigan fans because they preferred a shade of maize that Michigan used over another shade of maize Michigan used.

Uhh, ok dude. That's like, the entire point people are making in this thread. Michigan had a distintive maize that popped on HDTV and that no other university had. Now they look like about 5 other schools with a shade of maize they have never worn before.

Thank you.

I've posted this a bunch of times and I'll post it again:

We don't to be just another Cal / WVU / Toledo clone.  Michigan's traditional bright maize on it's athletic uniforms is unique to Michigan.

I was in Rome and I saw a guy from the back in a polo shirt with trim that I instantly recognized as the distinctive Michigan "maize".  I yelled out "Go Blue!" and he turned around and responded "Go Blue!"  In Rome.  Italy.

Try doing something like that if you are Cal / WVU / Toledo / etc.

Not only are our colors unique in college football, they may be unique in all of global sports!

It's good for recruiting to be unique and distinctive in the very cool way that we are.  Why throw that away just to overreact to the Addidas highlighter yellow, or to adhere to some "official" standard for documents that we have never used on the athletic uniforms.

Every year, we get recruits who say they come here because they like the distinctive helmets and the colors.

Don't be selfish . . . Think of the recruits.

Exactly. No idea why there was such a push in the firt place to change the maize.

I get that Adidas may have went a touch overboard on how highlighter they made the maize, but they completely overrcorrected the problem this year with something way too dark.

I really hope Nike takes us back to the maize from the mid 90's to late 2000's next year.

I just can't get used to looking at a helmet that looks like some winged combo of Toledo, WVU, Cal, and Iowa gold.

Yes, it's an overreaction to Addidas' highlighter yellow, primarily on the basketball uniforms.

The simple solution is to go back to the Nike maize that was good enough for Charles:

We can all agree . . . it was a happy time.

Well said. The maize is too dark. We've never worn maize this dark before. I detailed in photos that in the thread. This whole idea of getting back to "official maize" is complete non sense. Michigan had a distinctive maize that popped on TV and in person and now we look like WVU. And for what? So people who lived in the 70's can say I like it? Please. Even Bo never wore maize this dark.

When you say "never" do you mean since you were born in the 90s?

If you looked at the "There are..." posts you could see the evolution of the Maize from Leach to Henson to Henne, from AC to Derrick to Braylon.

I'm of an age where the color of Maize we wore in the Leach/AC photos gives me a warm fuzzy, like the Autumn light of October hitting the changing leaves and the smell of cider and warm donuts.

But the Maize worn my Woodson in the Rose Bowl always looks pretty sweet too, especially when he's 14 ft in the air snatching that endzone Int. So obviously, what I'm saying is the color that wins is the "best" color!

Unis looked great in SLC, even though they "didn't git er dun"

Sorry man, the Ross Maize looks like the AC Maize... you're hurting your own point!

Also, you keep reinforcing your opinion of what we did wear vs should wear by posting team photos taken in the blinding summer sun... post some game action Leach or AC shots (a different AC pic than that same one you've posted 2 or 3 times already).

Try the famous Indiana catch by AC, or Leach in the Rose Bowl. It'll come to you... not EVERYTHING your parents like sucks!

Seriously, just scroll down to the "There are..." posts to 7 days or 1 day for some great juxtapositions of the different eras & shades of Maize.

And the Braylon 2003 pic you posted is Verrry close to the highlighter yellow so many do not care for.

The only people who don't care for the lighter shade of maize are the fans still stuck in the 1970's (which I've proven over and over Michigan never wore maize this dark even then). You know what else was popular in the 70's? Bellbottoms. Guess we should bring those back to. And let's go live in a van down by the river. That sounds cool too.

Good lord.

I am not familiar with the discussion about how photos were processed back then, nor how older photos may be digitally changed now.  But I was there back then, you weren't.

For comparison on the maize then and now, below is a Chris Perry jersey from the 2004 Rose Bowl purchased then, and below is a banner I bought in 1979 (the only thing I have from back then) in the same photograph.

Note the difference.  The maize in the banner is the same as was on the helmets and the GO BLUE banner  the players touch at mid field before every home game.

As far as the 1970's being "fucking over," thanks for the news.

Sorry, that is not a 2004 Rose Bowl jersey. That is what we call a knock off. No Nike swoosh, Rose Bowl patch not on the shoulders etc. As for the banner, uh, do you realize how many different manufacturers make Michigan products that use all kinds of shades of maize? If this is your proof of something I'm trying hard to figure out what.

Now, the REAL 2004 Rose Bowl jersey:

Oh, and here's the 1979 Rose Bowl. Your memory needs some work:

Blue Durham

Didn't mean to imply that it was an "official" jersey or that Chris Perry even wore the damn thing, the point was to take 1 picture with both things in it in order to compare the relative colors used for maize in 2004 versus 1979, with the SAME lighting.

Something that different, individual pictures from different eras, with different lighting and developing and photo manipulation fail to do.

I first laid eyes directly on a Michigan uniform in 1982.  The maize was bright yellow not orangy yellow.  And the colors were not new in 1982.  They were the same colors used in the late '70s at the very least.

There has been no recent shift to bright yellow from orangy yellow.  Period.  The only shift has been Addidas going too "Oregon" highlighter yellow in the last few years.  That can be fixed without overreacting and going to an imaginary color that never was.

Despite your condescending tone I do agree with you.

What I don't appreciate is seeing a picture of our "game managing" 5th year ago QB who single-handidly lost the Utah game for us.

Couldn't you have used a Peppers picture or something? Not the best way to start my Saturday.

Agree entirely. Very 70s, the real deal. Wasn't as excited about the all white unis, prefer the maize pants on the road, but the bit they did on TV about it -- Harbaugh remembers those from the '74-'75 era -- ok, I'm cool with that too. Not that h checked with me, of course.

It wasn't 70's at all. Do people here just make stuff up? Also why is this fan base stuck in the 1970's? CFB has changed. The maize looked ridiculous on Thursday. Oh, and here is a pic from the 70's...Les Miles.

I blame mgoblog. If they never would have conducted that stupid poll Michigan might still have the maize it's had for the past 20-40 years. The funniest part is once Seth removed the "official maize" label nearly everyone preferred a lighter shade of maize.

What I've found out here and other Michigan boards is that this segment of the fan base is for the most part the fringe diehards who don't want to criticize anything Michigan does.

The maize needs changed. I don't want to watch Cal in winged helmets every weekend.
