I agree. It is fun to see a top 5 with all souther schools and UM though!

Would LOVE to land this MONSTER SACK MACHINE
January 8th, 2013 at 7:50 PM ^
Monster sack machine? Perhaps we could call him The Microwave...
January 8th, 2013 at 7:36 PM ^
If Nick Saban wants him, that's good enough for me.
January 8th, 2013 at 7:37 PM ^
Please do not show him tape of the Outback bowl.
January 8th, 2013 at 7:39 PM ^
You mean the game in which a former #1 overall DE recruit was largely neutralized by the UM offensive line? (Except for that one, you know, play).
January 8th, 2013 at 7:40 PM ^
Kids these days, man. They're impressionable. But, at least we have those fly jerzeez working in our favor.
January 8th, 2013 at 7:55 PM ^
Next season's alternative unis will be a shirt that says "Guns don't kill people, DeShawn Hand kills people." And then there will be a hashtag on the field that says #LamarrWoodleyapproved.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:46 PM ^
You are a one man meme generator. Awesome.
January 8th, 2013 at 7:37 PM ^
Nice to be on that list. That kid is a beast. We need a difference maker like that to go from a good defense to a great defense. Coaches will have to put in some serious work if we want to land him though.

BIG NEWS = TWO THREADZ

January 8th, 2013 at 7:39 PM ^
67 more top 5 cuts to go before signing day 2014!
Seriously though, pretty nice start.
January 8th, 2013 at 8:19 PM ^
I wonder what it's like to know that at some point in the future you will pretty much have the opportunity to meet and have a shot with whatever actress/supermodel/generally smoking hot woman you want.

I didn't know much about him, but this video makes me think that he has a good head on his shoulders. I would very much like him to go to Michigan.
January 8th, 2013 at 7:44 PM ^
January 8th, 2013 at 7:51 PM ^
Michigan coaches like to have fun. Watching that video makes him come across as pretty mature and well spoken for a high school junior.
January 8th, 2013 at 7:53 PM ^
...he, at this point, highlighted Michigan's staff as his fave. Short excerpt from 247Sports:
"They are my favorite coaching staff as a whole. We have a lot of chemistry."
January 8th, 2013 at 7:53 PM ^
Cool to be on the list but I would be shocked if we actually landed him.
January 8th, 2013 at 8:09 PM ^
Well, in the past it wouldn't have been shocking for UM to get a player like this. We've gotten lots of good players out of the Virginia/Maryland/DC area (David Terrell and Chris Perry are the first ones that come to mind, plus we have Countess now and Poggi coming in), we have a DC who was recently with the Ravens, and we are historically one of the best football programs in the country.
January 8th, 2013 at 7:57 PM ^
If he had more than a top five, it would take two Hands.

THANKS FOR SHARING your TOP 5 list WITH US, DA'SHAWN.
January 8th, 2013 at 8:10 PM ^
January 8th, 2013 at 8:12 PM ^
If he commits, I hope we have 10. It would be worth it.
January 8th, 2013 at 8:35 PM ^
Still wouldn't top Michael Ferns' commitment.
January 8th, 2013 at 8:39 PM ^
True. We were obviously very excited about that.
January 8th, 2013 at 8:15 PM ^
does that make Hand a threadly fellow?
Would love to land this young man!
January 8th, 2013 at 8:19 PM ^
The best part about this news is he previously had Notre Dame and OSU in his top 10 (http://247sports.com/Article/Nations-Top-2014-Prospect-DaShawn-Hand-Nam…).
January 8th, 2013 at 8:26 PM ^
That's the best part? Not the part about him including Michigan?
January 8th, 2013 at 8:43 PM ^
What can I say, I'm a sadist when it comes to Notre Dame and OSU. I like knowing that our rivals have been definitively eliminated (standard disclaimers about recruiting fickleness, etc.) over the possibility that we may or may not land him.
January 8th, 2013 at 8:50 PM ^
OK - just so I'm clear on this - you'd rather him leave M out of his top-5 along with ND and OSU than include M along with those two?
January 8th, 2013 at 10:26 PM ^
January 8th, 2013 at 8:32 PM ^
It's an entertaining part, for sure. He stated Ohio as his #6, which means absolutely nothing for them. It's encouraging because Da'shawn definitely has a good head on his shoulders. He'd be phenomenal on the field and in the classroom, I'm sure. He's got character and talent, a quintessential fit for Michigan.
January 8th, 2013 at 8:48 PM ^
So, Hand of the King is his nickname, right?
January 8th, 2013 at 8:51 PM ^
I'd love to see Hand on one end and Malik McDowell on the other end.
January 8th, 2013 at 9:11 PM ^
Salivating. I'm salivating. There will be zero touchdowns. There will be many sacks.
January 9th, 2013 at 10:00 AM ^
On top of the 2012 & 13 DL classes, landing Hand, McDowell, and Mone would pretty much be the most awesome thing ever. I can only think about our opponents thinking, "uh, not fair".
January 8th, 2013 at 8:51 PM ^
How many times have seen a Southern Kid with Michigan in his list of 5 with the other 4 being Southern schools and Michigan eventually getting him? I can't remember one though maybe there might be one or two. I remember a few during the RR days but they eventually decommitted to a Southern School.
Michigan's future is pretty much in the Midwest followed by the East and possibly some in the West and South.
January 8th, 2013 at 9:09 PM ^
Some in the South...
January 8th, 2013 at 9:10 PM ^
January 8th, 2013 at 9:21 PM ^
Yes, but just those. And also the middle though, because we've picked up big time recruits from Iowa, Missouri and Colorado lately.
January 8th, 2013 at 9:26 PM ^
No - even before RR Michigan recruited well in the South. Greg Mathews, Carlos Brown, Brandon Minor, Chris Perry and Junior Hemingway were all highly sought after recruits from the South. There are plenty more than that too.
January 8th, 2013 at 10:52 PM ^
Stonum was from Texas. Also, how "southern" is VA really?
January 9th, 2013 at 10:51 AM ^
I'm pretty sure Virginia is below the Mason-Dixon Line. Just because it's not in the deep south doesn't mean that it shouldn't count. Kids like to stick to their geographical regions, and I think the point when we talk about the "south" is that it's not in Michigan's geographical region.
