OT: Obligatory Friday "What are you doing?" Posbang Thread
Its that time again! Time to find out what everyone is up to this fine Friday morning/afternoon. What are you up to? Any good plans for the weekend?
Me, I'm sitting at my desk as usual. Trying to stay awake. I've been up since 12:30am taking care of child-rearing obligations and I'm exhausted. Staring at a computer screen does not help keep the eyes open either.
Still trying to sell my car and get a new one. Selling a car as a private seller is a lot of damn work. Not to mention the fact that I've gotten 2 scam emails thus far. They are hilarious. The respondent is claiming to be at sea without access to cell phone but access to email. They say they'll pay asking price and ask for my PayPal account because that's the only way they can pay. Idiots. I responded to one saying "Nice try. Go scam someone else. Oh, and I just reported you to the authorities." F-ers.
P.S. I'm going to posbang my own thread again because its fun and it feels good.
P.P.S. Chick-fil-A for lunch today! Mmm mmm good.
Talk out loud for at least a few minutes before you start the call, even if you have to talk to yourself. It warms up your voice, but it also warms up your mind and helps your confidence a little bit.
so I am spending the rest of the day gloating in the office.
Congrats, Mr. Edwards

One of the perks of being in-house counsel (to balance out the paycut): Never, ever doing legal research again.
My roommate is an assitant brewer at a local Brew/Pub. He's getting me an employee pass to attend the American Craft Beer Fest in Boston tonight. It's the largest beer festival on the east coast. Much like Brady Hoke in Muncie, my goal tonight will be to drink every beer at the Seaport World Trade Center.
Tomorrow, maybe the ponies? Maybe the beer festival again?
Sunday morning I will be taking the field with my 0-8 softball team.
Going to a tamale-making class with the wife and another couple this evening. You will be able to measure my Tecate intake by the declining quality of the tamales made. By the end of the night I fully expect to just be sticking handfuls of cornmeal in my mouth.
I am typing up some notes for my annual review. The review isn't for another 5 months doing it know will save me a bunch of time later.
just hangin out and eating brains
Are you in Miami?
was in miami, moved to maryland...where wil i be next MUUUUUAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA
The most recent heart and brain eating incident was in Maryland this week. I seem to have become the official tracker of cannibal stories. I should change my avatar pic to Hannibal Lector.
Watching Skip Bayless make himself look like an idiot on ESPN First Take never gets old. And hopefully about a 4 hour nap.
Work.
After work I'm going to be changing lines on all of my reels. Last week I lost a pretty decent Calico bass to some kelp. I'm not going to make the same mistake with this old line.
I think I'll take the little dude (4 yrs old) fishing tomorrow. Its supposed to be beautiful out and I just got him a little Ugly Stick kiddie rod and reel combo. We went last weekend and caught some tiny bluegill and he loved it. Pretty cool going back to fishing with worms for panfish - I forgot how fun that can be!
no experience fishing (except when I was really little) but I think it is something my 4 year old son would like. I was looking at rods today and had no idea what the hell I was doing or reading. Can you point me to where you bought that kiddie rod (that soulds so bad) and reel and about how much it costs.
This is what I got for him:

I found it at Dick's Sporting Goods for $25. I love Ugly Stick rods but the reel isn't the best. Thinking about replacing it if it turns out he wants to go more often. Until then, though, the reel it comes with is fine.
a lot.
That ugly stick will do more than fine for a 4 year old. I used to have one when i first started and they are great starter rods because of their durability and price.
Exactly. I remember my first one, a short 3 footer, hammering some big bass and catfish that is shouldn't have been able to handle. Plus, the one I got for him is yellow so he loves it.
Making spaghetti and meatballs all from scratch (pasta too) tonight, tomorrow my friend's college graduation party.
Might put in a few hours of work on my other friend's farm tomorrow morning if the rain holds off today.
Making pasta from scratch is awesome. I didn't believe how much better it was until I tried it myself, and it's not really that hard.
How difficult would that be for someone who has never done that before?
I'm always intrigued by handmade pasta when I see it on TV.
If you have a food processor it's pretty easy (roll it thinner than you think you need to, fresh pasta expands a bit when it cooks). If you don't, then I wouldn't reccomend it... unless you like kneading dough for 20 minutes.
The basic ratio: 1/3 cup flour, 1/3 cup semolina, 1 egg, and a pinch of salt per serving. So if you're making pasta for 4, use 4 eggs and 1 1/3 cup of each dry ingredient.
Dump the flour and semolina in a pile on your counter and mix them together, then spread the flour/semolina into a ring. Crack the eggs into the middle of the ring and scramble them with a fork, then gradually work the surrounding flour/semolina mixture into the scrambled egg. When everything is mixed together, you should have a fairly thick dough.
Knead this dough for about 10 minutes, or if you have a KitchenAid type mixer, put it in there with the dough hook attachment for about 10 minutes. Then spread a little bit of olive oil on the lump of dough and let it sit for 20-30 minutes. After that, roll it out (a pasta roller is helpful but not necessary) and cut it into whatever shape you want.
This sounds like it takes a while, but the active steps really aren't that hard. The timing works pretty well to make a sauce or meatballs or something while you wait for the dough to sit. Or you can just sit back and drink some wine to feel extra Italian.
Thanks for the detailed info.
I might give it a try this weekend.
The Chem building is nice and warm despite the terrible weather outside, but my plans for tonight were ruined... Probably going to hit up the gym and then some drinks tonight with a friend.
Also getting Chick-fil-a for lunch...then to Joe's Bar in Chicago tonight to see Pat Green and a little Wave on Wave!
I went to my 10 year old's promotion ceremony (5th to 6th grader). They are way too long winded. Asked him what he wanted for lunch, to which, "Sushi" was his response. So we ate sushi with my ex wife and wife. Found out my baby is due the day of the Alabama game. Don't know how to feel about that.
My ex just tried to sell her car on Craig's List and was deluged by scammers. It must work because they keep at it.
I'm working until 5, then going to my son's baseball game across town at 6:30. Its going to suck because I wore a suit to the promotion ceremony.
Have a great weekend everyone.
staring at the clock, waiting for 5 oclock to come near.Im going to try to get some crawfish tonight before the season is officially over. (most are already closed)
Watching the market plunge and my $$ go down the drain.
Reviewing a site plan for one of my client communities - someone DownRiver is getting a new coffee shop. Not saying where or which though to protect the innocent.
Also thinking about what kind of beer goes best with a rainy weekend at the lake up north. Any suggestions?
jagermeister - (pssst, i know its not beer)
how fast do you want to eat it?
I once told my college roomate's girlfriend that she needed to put hamburger in water to thaw it quicker... so she took it out of the package and put it into a pot of water. fucking hilarious.
She also tried to make fried chicken by combining the flour and egg BEFORE coating the chicken.
Have you tried punching it, or spitting at it?
If it's in a sealed package, submerge it in cold water. If it's not, order a pizza.
I'm going to my mom's house after work to trim out her bedroom in order to sell. I have no idea how the FHA determines what needs fixed to sell a house. It's really cool that you aren't allowed to talk to them to get clarification. I guess I'm just glad the inspector didn't notice the lack of baseboard trim in the rest of the house! Happy weekend everybody.
I love this thread but I secretly hope that one day someone will post, "Working...but eff it, let's all meet for a beer!" and we spend the afternoon on the patio of some bar in Detroit talking about Team 133.
A girl can dream.
Yeah, but you just know that'd be the one day you couldn't get out of work.
In the office trying to figure out why Citrix won't launch on a laptop for a firm. Wouldn't recognize the .ica file extension so I had to create it manually in indexing options and then associate that file type to the installed Citrix app, but it still won't launch. 2 hours into this issue and I'm almost out of ideas. *Sigh, I miss my high school/college days when work just consisted of swiping cards at the front desk at the NCRB for a few hours every other day...
On a better note, while my lunch is not as good (or rational) as Profit's Chick-fil-A, I'm definitely enjoying my large bag of Hershey's Cookies'n'Creme Drops!
DNA analysis and sequencing on C. diff samples. mmmmm tasty.
