OT: Michigan State football to play a series with Oregon, starting in 2014
Pretty much what the title says. "The agreement between the Ducks and Spartans calls for Michigan State to play at Autzen Stadium in 2014, and for Oregon to travel east the following year."
I wanted to put this in mgo.licio.us, but had no clue how. Sorry mods.
Michigan with USC?
Not just lose. They will get crushed.

No they won't. The spread doesn't work in the big ten. Too gimmicky. Doesn't work in cold weather.

They're playing where and when?

I retract the above statement. MSU will get crushed.
too many painful memories. I'm guessing we play Stanford, with Ohio playing USC but who knows.
Stanford would be a great school to play becuase we would have a great chance to win both games against them and there still a high enough caliber that the wins would mean something.
Plus there will be plenty of tickets, since Stanford doesn't typically sell their games out.
I expect that by the time we're playing these games we will be the favorite in just about every regular season game we play. I don't think we'll be talking about having "a chance" to win.
Northwestern is playing a series with Stanford starting from 2015.
I'd guess we get USC and Ohio gets anyone else available.
The Mort Thompson Chevrolet Ineligibowl. What a grand tradition.
I don't see why this would have any effect on who we play in 2017. If anything, I would expect it makes it less likely that MSU and Oregon would get matched up then.
Im going to predict UM vs Cal will be the matchup..similiar colors and Bears vs Wolverines just sounds great
Man, I would love a Wolverine/Bear matchup!
A respectable team that I would expect us to beat. I agree with another post in this thread that said Stanford would foot the bill under that same description, only moreso.
But if we can't get the Cardinal, it's good to get the Bears.
And I agree about the color thing as well!

Arizona / UM, now there's a matchup.
btw you can't put things in mgo.licio.us
only brian/mods can do that.
Thanks for clearing that up. I saw a mgo.licio.us post regarding the Stanford-Northwestern series and thought that perhaps these things didn't go here.
If Sparty wears their combat uniforms, this could be visually the worst game ever.
No, I think that would be Oregon-Maryland. Maryland by itself is a visual nightmare.

Maryland vs ND with the shiny gold helmets takes the cake. At least Maryland knows their helmets are hideous, whereas ND actually designed their's to be hip or something.
Sparty is a visual nightmare even if they wear their "normal" jerseys
And which jersey is that, again?
in spartyville. They have a grand tradition of a new look every 2 years
It might cause viewers to have seizures.
Yeah, the matchup between the team that can't play great unless they have special uniforms versus the team that doesn't play at all unless they have special uniforms.
Fuglicious.
I think I just coined a new adjective.

I hate to say it, but it would be tough to beat the trash tornado game. Both team's jerseys were atrocious.
Hopefully we don't get the shaft and end up playing Washington State, but I'd think they'd put us with USC.
Selfishly, I'd root for a UofM - UCLA series. Back when UCLA was relevant in football, this would even make sense. I think a battle of the public Ivies, us and Berkeley would also be interesting, albeit a little further for me to travel.
When the B1G-PAC agreement came out, I anticipated that Michigan and Ohio State would play USC/Oregon. I have to say that it's pretty smart for Northwestern and Michigan State to get a jump on that potential scheduling (which starts in 2017) by already creating a [potential] rivalry. I still think they put Michigan and Ohio State up against the top two schools in the PAC, probably USC and Oregon.
getting whacked.

message.
I would imagine Oregon would be on probation with restrictions in 2014
I'll take Washington State.

After watching Mike Leach's offenses for a long time, I want nothing to do with them.

Boom.
but would you rather play in a 35K seat stadium in the mountains or play an equal irrelevant program that we can get in the big house without a return trip.
I think Arizona would be a pretty intriguing match up, considering the coaching staff out there....
Appalachian St.. Why would we want to schedule a reminder (Arizona) to a 3-year nightmare?!
Cool. I'll have more opportunities to root against MSU.
MSU is scheduling some good teams. Boise St, WVU, Bama, and now Oregon. Let's go DB, get some sweet home and homes.
Because of their move to the Big 12.
We've got Bama for 2012 in addition to ND. Those aren't exactly cakewalks or lame schools to play. Out of conference 2013 does look kind of bare with Akron, Connecticut (Michigan is seriously playing at their stadium? I'm so getting tickets for that game), Central Michigan, and of course ND - but one can never get too cocky. A reminder of that is we get Appalachian State again in 2014 along with ND. There's still 2 out of conference game slots availible for 2014. I'm hoping USC and then we'll probably get EMU or another MAC school.
Yeah, but I'd rather have a home-home with Bama than just 1 at Jerryworld. And MSU is playing ND those years too right? So 2 pretty good non-conf. teams?
What about this matchup was so tempting for MSU? Their recruiting is fading away and their talent level is going to take a major hit in the next three years. Oregon is going to run train on them.
"Their talent level is going to take a major hit in the next three years."
I'm not sure this will necessarily be the case. I’m interested to know why you think this is so certain.
he's probably referring to their recruiting classes, based off of what they had been previously.
MSU wants to be nationally relevant. Scheduling an OOC game against a team like Oregon is a good way to make sure all eyes are on you when most teams are playing cupcakes.
