Denard 7-1 odds for Heisman
Danny Sheridan, a "famed" oddsmaker, has released his 2012 Heisman odds. He has Denard tied for third most likely with Landry Jones at 7:1, behind Barkley at 5:1 and Montee Ball at 6:1.
He has some interesting guys on his list as well like Keith Price, Sammy Watkins, Rex Burkhead. But the most outrageous one to me is Dayne Crist. Crist at 25:1? Really? Couldn't keep his starting job at ND, has to transfer to Kansas, and is now a pre-season Heisman candidate?

Thank you sir!

he has already sown that award up. No but being serious good for Denard and I cant wait to watch his final season and wish him nothing but the best this year and in the future in the NFL also. Where is the Denard I Love you song I need my fix for the day. lol
February 15th, 2012 at 10:48 PM ^
Love this song almost as much as I love me some Denard!
February 15th, 2012 at 10:20 PM ^
If Ball didn't win it when he led the nation in rushing and tied the all-time TD record, he is never going to win it.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:55 PM ^
Unless he switches to quarterback I guess.
February 16th, 2012 at 7:57 AM ^
Or starts playing in the SEC.
February 15th, 2012 at 10:21 PM ^
Ahh yes. I have Denard at 1:4 odds for September Heisman.
February 15th, 2012 at 10:26 PM ^
Maybe that decided schematic advantage can help win a Heisman one day.
February 15th, 2012 at 10:29 PM ^
the same award Tate won after his first 5 games? I know it is early but Denard deserves all the credit he gets whether he gets it or not only time will tell.
February 15th, 2012 at 10:41 PM ^
You know how he earned the nickname September Heisman, right? Like, gaining an average of ALL THE YARDS over the last two years in a certain big September matchup?
Remember?
Any of this ringing a bell?

Don't forget:
February 16th, 2012 at 3:11 PM ^
I ain't seen nobody do Notre Dame like Denard since Tony Dorsett. Good times, I was a big Pitt fan on those days.
February 16th, 2012 at 5:09 PM ^
I hear ya bro. Glad it was Denard. I like that kid.
February 16th, 2012 at 7:59 AM ^
No argument here. You failed at trolling the troll.
February 16th, 2012 at 8:10 AM ^
You've been owned, boy.
February 16th, 2012 at 9:38 AM ^
Incomplete. I still haven't seen a touchdown signal. He must have been scanning the crowd for Kate Upton or something or waiting for Kelly's Gatorade shower.
At least he did give Denard some love.
February 16th, 2012 at 3:56 PM ^
am i the only one that still watches that and smiles?
"Wide open is Gallen...they left him alone..."
February 16th, 2012 at 1:56 AM ^
If he wins the September Heisman this year, he will probably win it overall. If he lights up Bama he can light up anyone.
February 16th, 2012 at 7:11 AM ^
we're undefeated going into october, i will most certainly take it.
February 16th, 2012 at 2:54 PM ^
I have Notre Dame at 1:1 odds for being August National Champions.
February 16th, 2012 at 2:57 PM ^
Really? I'll bet the farm against that! EZ money.
Keep trying fellas. Enough whiffs and we'll get a breeze going soon enough.
February 16th, 2012 at 5:10 PM ^
If that's the case, there must be a pretty bad wind storm going on in South Bend by now.
February 16th, 2012 at 10:23 PM ^
That doesn't even make sense unless you stopped watching after the 2010 season.
February 15th, 2012 at 10:23 PM ^
Barkley's to lose.
February 16th, 2012 at 9:35 AM ^
Not sure why he got Flamebaited, but I agree with Lancer. Barkley should run over the PAC12 this upcoming season, he will get plenty of media attention, and USC will easily be in the top 10 at the end of the year.
February 15th, 2012 at 10:27 PM ^
What's this guy's accuracy? The Heisman is always pretty unpredictable but I wonder how close he's been
Also, has there ever been a Heisman winner who everybody knew was a sure thing from September? I can think of Reggie Bush, but that's about it
February 15th, 2012 at 10:29 PM ^
No idea, I was linked to this through an ESPN blogger.
February 15th, 2012 at 10:32 PM ^
everyone called the preseason winner who went on to win it..... Peyton Manning dont you remember? HA HA thanks Mr. Woodson
February 16th, 2012 at 4:25 PM ^
What are you talking about? I will never forget how proud I felt when Dan Persa took the podium in New York City and... oh wait
February 15th, 2012 at 10:28 PM ^
Even money on half the blog wanting Denard benched after the first three and out against Bama.
You can't go 11-2 and win a BCS bowl with Denard as your QB, just can't do it.
As Gorgeous Al put it oh so poetically, "I ain't the smartest guy in the world, but I ain't taking 350 yards of total offense out of the game".
February 15th, 2012 at 10:31 PM ^
what are you talking about ? Theres not many people on this blog who didn't want Denard to be the QB.
February 15th, 2012 at 10:34 PM ^
You must have missed the several "Devin or Denard" threads throughout the season.
February 15th, 2012 at 10:41 PM ^
Just becuase the 5% who thaught Devin should start posted threads doesn't mean there were many people who agreed with them.
February 16th, 2012 at 9:39 AM ^
The not-so-silent minority strikes again!
February 15th, 2012 at 10:45 PM ^
IIRC, most posters were highly in favor of Denard staying on the field. Most of the debate seemed to be driven by a vocal small minority. (Feel free to post the link proving me wrong--wouldn't be first or last time.)
February 16th, 2012 at 8:02 AM ^
And even that vocal small minority started those threads primarily to talk about how to prepare Denard for the NFL. Most analysts believe Denard projects higher at WR (well, slot receiver or returner) in the NFL than at QB. So, IIRC, the threads were more about developing Devin for what Devin might be able to do in the NFL and developing Denard for what Denard might do in the NFL.
February 15th, 2012 at 10:33 PM ^
No idea on Denard's chances on winning the Heisman. But he'll definitely have the opportunities to do so. Marquee games against Bama, ND, MSU, Nebraska and OSU will give him chances to put on his resume.
February 15th, 2012 at 10:44 PM ^
From a distance, I get the feeling that Denard would love to win the Heisman. I also get the feeling that Denard would love more to win for the team. The team, the team, the team. If the team wins as often as Denard wants them to/wills them to (and they themselves want to), the Heisman would be gravy.
McCarron with nat'l title vs RGIII w/ Heisman...I'm thinking Denard would take the MNC over the Heisman with a win in the Alamo Bowl.
Both psyched and sad that Denard is nearly a senior qb.
February 15th, 2012 at 10:58 PM ^
We will need to be in the MNC hunt for Denard to have a shot in hell and with our schedule I just don't see it. BCS, maybe, but not MNC consideration.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:21 PM ^
I think Denard will be splitting the Michigan votes this year. What with Ryan recording 20 sacks and Lewan hospitalizing a dozen defensive linemen earning him the nickname "Crushed Sternum" it is just hard to imagine that Denard will get all the votes he needs. I kow those other positions are non-traditional for the award, but voters will remember itsmichiganforgodsakes, the only school to produce a defensive winner of the Heisman and some votes will stray from Denard.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:22 PM ^
7-1 you say? Denard is number 16... 1+6=7. Also this is the 2012 season coming up and right in the middle of 20 and 12 is 16. The national championship game will be played on January 7... Denard will win all the things.
February 15th, 2012 at 11:40 PM ^
I like your thinking and you're username....
February 15th, 2012 at 11:51 PM ^
Win, and Denard is instantly the frontrunner. Lose, and it will be a big uphill battle. So lets evaluate his chances after that game.
February 16th, 2012 at 12:14 AM ^
Surprised Tyrann Mathieu didn't even get odds yet Crist did. I don't think Mathieu will repeat with so much success next season as he had this season but still, how does he not get odds but Crist and Burkhead do?
Also, Landry Jones has been overrated going on 3 years now.
February 16th, 2012 at 8:06 AM ^
Matthieu should really try to get some snaps on offense (maybe end arounds or screen passes) to improve his Heisman odds. It's just been obvious that a defensive player can't do it only on defense (even Chuck had to play some offense).
February 16th, 2012 at 10:31 AM ^
He didn't look like one of LSU's better defenders in their bowl game.
February 16th, 2012 at 12:52 AM ^
It's interesting to note that all three of Michigan's Heisman Trophy winners never won the award under the coach who recruited him.
Tom Harmon was recruited by Harry Kipke, won the Heisman with Fritz Crisler.
Desmond Howard was recruited by Bo, won the Heisman with Gary Moeller.
Charles Woodson was recruited by Gary Moeller, won the Heisman with Lloyd Carr.
Denard was recruited by RichRod, can he win it with Hoke?
Landry Jones will probably be the favorite throughout the season. Denard might have a chance if he can really lower his number of interceptions.
