A few minor recruiting notes (Dunn edition)
December 11th, 2011 at 7:59 PM ^
How many early enrollees do we have?
How soon do they have to enroll, does anyone know the timeline they have, going thru admissions, signing up for classes, etc.?
If we can get 2 top recruits is great....to nab them away from our rivals is even better!
You mean a recruit met the great U. Meyer and didn't immediately bow down at his shrine and sign/recommit? The sky isn't falling?
December 11th, 2011 at 8:29 PM ^
It's just Ringer, Bolden, and Wilson.
I'm not sure about this, but I believe that they have to be enrolled by the last day of drop/add. I think that's what happened with Devin Gardner (enrolling on or near the last day).

that Dunn's visit to Ohio wasn't anything special and if I read the cryptic parts right, he was not impressed when he left.
We have a shot, especially if he does an OV. Brady still hasn't sat down with him and once he does, it's all over but the early enrolling.

This could go on for months then
December 11th, 2011 at 8:45 PM ^
NSD is February 1st so a month and a half if he's not EEing.
December 11th, 2011 at 8:48 PM ^
he could still take a little while after that if he wanted
December 11th, 2011 at 8:55 PM ^
April 1st is the final date to sign.
December 11th, 2011 at 8:59 PM ^
You don't have to sign an LOI. You can just enroll if you want.
December 11th, 2011 at 10:45 PM ^
If I were in Dunn's inner circle I would advise him to just make a decision already. He wanted to be an EE, and he's had a ton of exposure to both schools. It's a tough decisions but he's not going to gather any more information or get to know anyone better. He knows what's up. He's just afraid to pull the trigger. Waiting til signing day would be a waste of time just to waffle around some more.
December 11th, 2011 at 11:38 PM ^
he isn't necessarily being wishy-washy, though it certainly seems like it at times. There's speculation that he's trying to avoid the backlash from Ohioans that he is bound to receive. Kyle Kalis had it happen when he switched to Blue. His inner circle might want to avoid that as long as possible. Especially if he EEs, in which case he can get out of Dodge, OH, and enroll just after an announcement.
However, the longer it goes on, the longer it seems like he just doesn't know. I would rather he tell Ohio (with a middle finger held high) that he's going Blue and they can say what they want. Then I would know he's willing to go through some BS for us. Ohio be crazy, though, man... so it might even be a case of keeping him safe, in extreme circumstances.
December 11th, 2011 at 8:41 PM ^
This was probably the biggest news of the night. If nothing else, it could give him a chance to visit USC.
December 11th, 2011 at 8:33 PM ^
20+ touches /gm @ UM or 5-10 touches for the silver team. What would you choose if you were a big back?
December 11th, 2011 at 8:37 PM ^
Bri'onte Dunn had a good time and all the current commits were working him pretty hard. Dunn was telling people he's going to work on getting Kalis to flip over to the Bucks, obviously a good sign. A couple of the commits I spoke to all said they think Bri'onte will stay with OSU. Dunn is supposed to visit Michigan next week. let's see if that happens. If he does, I won't be as confident as these players
Ohio fans are confident too
December 11th, 2011 at 8:43 PM ^
That's not really the feeling I got from the Bill Greene interview.
It really does seem like he's torn.
December 11th, 2011 at 9:14 PM ^
elaborate?
December 11th, 2011 at 9:19 PM ^
nothing you haven't read here. He didn't reaffirm his commitment to OSU and he did schedule a UM visit.
December 11th, 2011 at 9:33 PM ^
If dunn is recruiting kalis on michigans campus, hoke needs to get him out of here. I can only imagine ohio fans running around braggin about stealing kalis
December 11th, 2011 at 10:14 PM ^
Kalis won't flip, they burned that bridge when he switched to Michigan. Secondly, Brionte was being barraged during this visit, and he still didn't reaffirm.
December 12th, 2011 at 9:08 AM ^
and NONE are going to tsio. Not sure there is much support from their HS coach about going to "state u". Michigan is VERY proven when it comes to O-linemen going into the NFL. Any pro-style lineman will prefer a pro-set vs. a spread offense anyday.
Go Blue!
December 11th, 2011 at 8:44 PM ^
Its best to get the last shot!
December 11th, 2011 at 8:52 PM ^
i understand the guy is a established writer/source but damn that is just like an Ace Williams article. No way Kalis goes back that bridge is burned, Urban also called him and he said thanks, but no thanks. Kalis and Strobel will be roommates next year so that helps our cause
December 11th, 2011 at 9:09 PM ^
I don't believe that for a second
December 11th, 2011 at 10:42 PM ^
Ohio fans are still confident that they'll win Hoke's first game against them. I wouldn't put too much stock in what they're thinking. They're not used to doing it.
December 11th, 2011 at 8:42 PM ^
With Michigan having Fitz for a few more years and his replacement possibly already in the system with Rawls, I don't get the constant preoccupation with Dunn. I would love to have any recruit of his calibur, don't get me wrong, but it seems to me that I would rather have a great o-lineman or especially some great DBs or DLmen,
I am more excited about Wright/Reeves because of need down the line than I am about Dunn. Also, I am a bit tired of the Dunn drama, him going one way or the other. I worry whether he is just playing everyone to build the drama, though I know it must be tough for a kid to make this kind of decision with all this attention.
December 11th, 2011 at 8:59 PM ^
I like Dunn, but for me, it would be a painful loss for Ohio if we switch him. If we lose out, not as big a deal. That is why I care, I want additional flaming knives darting into the side of Ohio's tatoo laden skin.
However, the Schutt recruitment makes me feel we should have taken him. You can never have too many big DT, and to see him going to them sucks
December 11th, 2011 at 9:04 PM ^
that it is not the end of the world whether or not we get this guy. In his defense he has been pretty low profile and keeping it close to the vest. I think that blogs and media are making more noise about him than he is. I remember recruiting prior and he seemed to love the attention and would do things to encourage it. I do not get that vibe as much with Dunn. Regaurdless he has a very difficult decision to make and I know either way this board wiil handle it with class. Hope he goes Blue

December 12th, 2011 at 8:10 AM ^
... and that traverse city guy that went to Oregon, and Joe Crawford & Malik Hairston...
December 11th, 2011 at 9:07 PM ^
We know Dunn is special. But we also are enjoying a great recruiting year, a great season..and we want this kid to want Michigan..another chance to beat tsio by getting him. So we win by getting him, AND he just happens to be highly talented. we hungry
December 11th, 2011 at 10:49 PM ^
It's not just us gaining a running back and a commit, it's us gaining a running back and commit and Ohio State losing one. The kid is deciding between two rivals, why are you surprised that people are intrigued and excited about it?
December 11th, 2011 at 11:06 PM ^
I am just saying that we should all be equally excited about other prospective recruits. These things tend to take on a life of their own when the recruit can't quite decide. It would be awesome if Michigan could grab Dunn, but people have been pumping it up to be the end-all-be-all of Michigan's recruiting efforts. In the grand scheme of things it isn't as huge as its being made out to be. In the short run yes it is incredibly important.
December 11th, 2011 at 8:55 PM ^
Dunn's commitment goes a long way as far as setting the tone for how Hoke will recruit Ohio. He is not going to be shut out like we were while Tress was there. He does not care whos coaching or how big of a recruit it is it will not be a forgone conclusion that they will go to tsio.
December 11th, 2011 at 9:12 PM ^
I keep reading this on mgoblog, but it's somewhat revisionist history. Yes, RR didn't have much success against Tressel, but LC got a lot of star recruits against Tressel.
Manningham, Crable, Burgess and "he who must not be named" come to mind.
Even RR got JT Turner, which was a big deal at the time.
Looking back at past classes, it seems like there was about 1 big recruit per year from Ohio. It'll be interesting to see if this continues versus Urban Meyer.
December 11th, 2011 at 10:46 PM ^
that's crazy...
December 12th, 2011 at 2:56 AM ^
took me awhile to realize you meant Boren. (you meant Boren, right?)
December 11th, 2011 at 9:23 PM ^
we're selling jerseys in ohio...
December 11th, 2011 at 9:43 PM ^
What might this mean for the tide on the rivalry?
December 11th, 2011 at 9:02 PM ^
Let's hope we're put on buckle up watch next week.
December 11th, 2011 at 9:15 PM ^
i think he ran into a buzzsaw with hoke and mattison. we are already too deep into ohio for him to stop the train. we win the sugar bowl and lock up a top 3 class and steal brionte right out of his hands and watch out....he knows we got the best d coordinator and recruiter hes ever had. if he thinks he steps into tht job and its gonna be title town time...forget it. hes gonna be begging for hokes mercy next november. book it
December 12th, 2011 at 7:36 AM ^
Exactly. Selling jerseys in Ohio is a big deal.
