Who do we want to win the B1G title game (BCS-wise)?
I'm a little bit confused on who to want to win. Obviously, I want state to be crushed and their fans to sob and cry infinite tears.
But I heard on ESPNEWS, they had the BCS expert on, he said Michigan fans want state to win because it will knock wisconsin down from 15 and Michigan would slide in if UGA loses. He also said, a wisconsin blowout win will drop state, but it might hurt Michigan in the computer rankings. Apparently, the computers do not like Michigan because they didn't play a strong OOC schedule.
The question is, what team winning would benefit Michigan the most in the BCS standings?

BCS Standings thread and rooting guide
a 3 loss state team will fall precipitously in the human rankings.
edit: i appear to have replaced what that thread actually says in my mind with what i want it to say, which is fuck state.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:06 PM ^
I see no way a three loss team will be ranked ahead of a 2 loss Michigan team and that includes Baylor
November 28th, 2011 at 5:49 PM ^
I think State winning benefits us more because they are higher ranked than Wisconsin and thus the fall of Wisconsin would likely put them behind us (whereas State falling might not fall behind us).
That being said I will not root for State to win and go to Pasadena.
November 28th, 2011 at 5:58 PM ^
but like others have said, I really don't want to see State going to the Rose Bowl so here's to hoping we won't need the incrimental bump in strength of schedule from a Sparty win.
November 28th, 2011 at 7:35 PM ^
as I'm technically a badger, I've adopted them as my 2nd favorite team ... I gotta cheer for bucky to get sweet sweet revenge on sparty, & hard. I hope to see a full-on demolition. no one likes you, michigan state.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:27 PM ^
they will not beat oregon. looks better for us if they do go though since they beat us.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:33 PM ^
If Sparty goes to Pasadena, we will never hear the end of it. You still see Spartan fans walking around in 1988 Rose Bowl gear (no joke - I actually saw someone walking around in a 24-year-old MSU Rose Bowl sweatshirt a couple weeks ago). I don't want them to be able to update their wardrobe.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:07 PM ^
I'm sure plenty of people, including me, still wear 98 rose bowl shirts and still will years from now...
November 28th, 2011 at 8:10 PM ^
The shirts are worn through but that hat is still a thing of beauty.
November 28th, 2011 at 5:50 PM ^
We want to state to lose. If they lose they will drop below us in the polls. Combine that with a georgia loss and we're in. Not only that but lets say state loses but in triple OT and for some reason they drop down to 15 and we stay at 16 we still will get the bcs invite because the big 10 only has 1 team in the top 14 so its then extended to the top 18.
November 28th, 2011 at 5:52 PM ^
Read the front page.
November 28th, 2011 at 5:51 PM ^
Sparty to win but I would rather miss out on a BCS game than have State in the Rose Bowl.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:35 PM ^
...totally crazy.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:44 PM ^
Agreed. I want Hoke to be in all of those 2013 homes talking about going to the BCS his first year at Michigan.
November 28th, 2011 at 5:54 PM ^
If you're a Michigan fan, you root for Wisconsin.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:16 PM ^
First off, I ONLY root for one school and that is Michigan.
That is all fine and well. I hate state. I hate their fans and most of all their d-bag coach.
But, I don't want to be a big baby like he is and not want state to win if it benefits Michigan. MICHIGAN is what's bigger than everything in this whole thing.
I'll GLADLY want wisconsin to win if it benefits Michigan more. But if state winning benefits Michigan, then I'll want state to win.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:27 PM ^
I completely agree. However, I think the loser drops behind us in a loss regardless, so I'm just not worrying about that game. If Wisconsin wins, I think it partially invalidates MSU's win over them in the eyes of voters because there is already the asterisk due to the hail mary and playing at home. If I was worried about it, I'd be cheering for MSU, but I'm not, so I'll be spending my Saturday not worrying about other games with the expectation that things will work themselves out for Michigan to be in a BCS game, or else it wasn't meant to be.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:25 PM ^
State beat us for sure (albeit in a trash tornado), and I think we'd beat them today, but why isn't anyone talking about the fact that we beat the two teams that beat them, and re NB, we destroyed them...
November 28th, 2011 at 6:43 PM ^
You said it perfectly Wolverine Devotee...
November 28th, 2011 at 6:45 PM ^
Dangit... Double post..
November 28th, 2011 at 7:12 PM ^
I root for whoever gets Michigan into the BCS. If you can guarantee that State losing will still get Michigan there, then Go Wisconsin.
If State winning puts us in, I'll take it....you're looking at Sparty getting embarrassed again in the bowls on an even bigger stage if they play Oregon.
November 28th, 2011 at 7:20 PM ^
Plus, even if state does make it to the Rose Bowl, they are going to get utterly SHAT upon by a pissed off oregon team who blew a shot at a possible BCS title game berth. Ducks also haven't won a rose bowl game since 1917 against the Penn Quakers, currently of the Ivy League in FCS.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:28 PM ^
...as a good friend of mine and a 30+ year season ticket holder accurately said..."State...is...gargage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
November 28th, 2011 at 5:58 PM ^

November 28th, 2011 at 6:01 PM ^
Here's an interesting question. Does it matter to Brady Hoke which bowl game we go to?
"Any bowl game" in his 2011-contract year nets him $75,000.
A "2d or 3d place conference bowl [Capital One or Outback?]" gets him $125,000.
Hoke's Michigan contract doesn't specify any particular bonus for BCS or non-BCS bowl, which is a bit weird. The only other big bonuses would have been for the Conference championship game ($300,000) or Conference win ($500,00).
November 28th, 2011 at 6:05 PM ^
What if Houston lost? Is it likely that they would drop out of the top 14?
November 28th, 2011 at 6:07 PM ^
They would probably be on the verge of dropping out, but end up something like 13th. What would happen is that another BCS at-large would open up, virtually guaranteeing Michigan a spot if they make the top 14 - assuming Oklahoma is competition for the Sugar bowl spot.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:05 PM ^
State winning gives us our best chance, as we could get a small boost in computer rankings as our SOS would improve (Mich < State >> Wisconsin) and would leap over Wisconsin by a good margin.
That being said, we jump either team if they lose, we just need to worry more about holding off Baylor.
I would rather see Wisconsin win, but I don't understand why people would want to miss a BCS game just so Sparty doesn't go to the Rose Bowl. That's positvely Spartan-esque.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:18 PM ^
I really dislike the thought of MSU winning the first ever B1G conference championship game more than I dislike the thought of them going to the Rose Bowl.
It doesn't matter though, we'll jump whichever team loses, and the slight SOS bump is irrelevant. It's not that I'm rooting against MSU so much as I'm rooting against Dantonio.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:05 PM ^
Typically, I see this matchup and think, "Field swallowed by large sinkhole...."
On Saturday, I shall amend this thought with, "...leaving Michigan with an at-large bid"
November 28th, 2011 at 6:17 PM ^
Wisco all day... just so state doesn't go to the rose bowl.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:18 PM ^
Wisc ranked just one above us will drop below wth 3 losses...plus LSU beating UGA and were #14..a 3 loss Baylor WONT jump Michigan...OKLA losing would help too ..same for KSU although that one is unlikely
November 28th, 2011 at 6:21 PM ^
I've always thought the BCS was a joke, and somewhere along the lines the BCS officials tell the individuals who are behind the computers what manipulations to make to get the matchups they want. They want Michigan, and they'll get Michigan.
Oh, and no way State wins. I don't think they'll get blown out but they'll definitely lose by 2 scores.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:22 PM ^
At this point, it's pretty much Geaux Tigers and Hook 'Em Horns. I really think either MSU or Wisconsin will be behind us with a loss.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:31 PM ^
Dug my 2009 Texas/OSU burnt orange fiesta bowl shirt out of the closet. Now I just have to go find a good LSU shirt.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:27 PM ^
Georgia MUST lose and State MUST be destroyed. Period.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:34 PM ^
Les Miles already know what he should do
November 28th, 2011 at 6:33 PM ^
dont we have the highest computer ranking in the B1G?
November 28th, 2011 at 6:43 PM ^
Next year. And the year after.
November 28th, 2011 at 6:45 PM ^
WI will really be up to destroy MSU and I think they will. It may be close at halftime but WI will ware state down and probably win by 17 or more points. This will be a big enough loss to push state below us.
LSU will probably win easy next week...GA will fall behind us.
I'm thinking OSU will have enough offense to beat OU...they will fall behind us with 3 losses.
Texas may win as well.
November 28th, 2011 at 7:05 PM ^
November 28th, 2011 at 7:11 PM ^
I see what you did there.
November 28th, 2011 at 7:29 PM ^
by a million.
November 28th, 2011 at 7:30 PM ^
no way in hell i could root for state after the way that game went down this year. go badgers!
November 28th, 2011 at 7:52 PM ^
MSU....I hate Wiscy, their ugly coach who had Martin cheap-shotted last year and their usual play against creampuffs both in hoops and football before the conference gets cranked up.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:20 PM ^
It was MSU that injured Martin with an illegal block.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:00 PM ^
Perhaps I'm an asshole, but is it really important to go to a non-Rose Bowl BCS game?
I mean, I know those games are "better", but are they really?
We're not playing for the BCS championship, and we're not in the Rose Bowl, so what's the difference?
Why is it better to play, say, Houston in the Sugar Bowl than Georgia in the CapitalOne Bowl or South Carolina in the Outback Bowl? Just because the BCS says it is?
Those questions aside, I hope they do go to a BCS bowl because it seems to be important. I just can't figure out why.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:11 PM ^
Much more media hype and PR for BCS bowls. The Sugar Bowl is the ONLY game on that day, and its on in primetime.
Much more $$$. Isnt the difference over $10 mil?
November 28th, 2011 at 8:16 PM ^
I would hate to play Houston as I look at that as a lose/lose.
A game we should win, because its "Houston", If we lose however, we lost to "Houston".
I'd rather see them lose to S. Miss and get another Big 12 team.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:28 PM ^
All bowl money is shared equally among big ten teams.
