Will Hagerup suspended four games, Terrence Robinson one.
they just corrected it. terrance robinson gets ONE game
I like that Hoke is making Stonum earn it for a little while longer.
Hagerup, man wake the F up dude! WTF are you doing to yourself?
Can Gibbons punt? Maybe then we can get something from that scholly he's taking up.
How about Broekhuizen, can he punt? Anyone? Anyone Know?
Wile has been practicing without a tee for a couple years now to prepare for college, I believe he's the real deal. However if he had to PK and Punt, that might be a lot to ask for, hopefully he can handle it if he ends up being the guy.
Go Blue!
I think Robinson is just one game. Per Michael Rothstein
says T-Rob is only out one game but Hagerub is out 4
Hes the only reliable special teamer we have... and this is strike 2.
what exactly got him suspended in the firstplace? is this related?
Yeah, you don't know what he did but his conduct is making me very nervous. Someone really needs to ride herd on him and make him shape up before he ends up out of the program.
It appears that TRob is only suspended for season opener. A little confusion there though. But wtf is Hagerup thinking, this is the second time he has gotten into trouble.
Also Stonum Redshirts this year
They must've stole the wrong hoagie and fries.
Stonum redshirting in 2011 is a good move by Hoke. Makes total sense, and he can get his act together this year. I'll be very excited to see him and Roundtree in 2012
Agree. I think a whole year off will really help get his head on straight. Plus it also gives him a full final year to put of stats for the NFL scouts, which will help his future prospects.
OMG how can you put the new Emporer of space on suspension? Anyone think its urine analysis related? What gets you suspended for 4 games?
Selling stuff for tatoos (I kid, I kid. But it does.)
Based on a reliable team source, I found out last winter that Hagerup's initial suspension was indeed due to failed drug tests - pot related. I don't know anything about the most recent infraction. It really bothers me when a student athlete is given a free ride, etc. and is so selfish that he knowingly violates team rules for a little fun at the expense of the program.
Does this really need to be shared in a public space?
Good thing you replied to his comment and locked it in!
With all due respect, weed is more than a little fun, if true, of course.

Very, true, let's get our facts straight.
Fortunately we will be scoring TDs on all offensive possessions, so the Hagerup suspension won't hurt us.
Right on, EG!
suspended for OSU and now 4 games. You're a punter for Chrissake.
That is truly disappointing. In his short time at Michigan he'll now have missed five of the first 17 games his team has played due to a violation of team rules. Michigan now has less than four weeks to figure out who is going to punt for the first quarter of the season.
Also:
The Stonum suspension is exactly how I hoped Hoke would handle this. Can't let Stonum get away with two DUI's unpunished but you don't give up on the kid and give him a year to mature.
So let me get this straight, you have to punish two alocohol related violations, but not three? Right, Irish?
You might wanna read the very bottom of the front page post by Tim regarding Stonum and Floyd
I think we're allowed to think and assess for ourselves with regards to appropriate punishments for breaking MIP and DUI laws, all respect to Brian.
THANK YOU! I find it comical (and many other adjectives) that everyone who comments on the ND and FLoyd situation is getting down-voted. Since when do we have to agree with what the MODs say. They have there opinion and I have mine. The beuaty of blogs is that I can state my opinon and other people can agree or disagree.
Since when they are right...
17 MIPs <<<<< 1 DUI
What the hell is wrong with us? It took like 4 minutes after it hit twitter to have a thread about this.
Hagerup scares me. Hopefully he realizes nfl potential and how stupid things affect him and his position.
Stonum makes sense. Floyd playing all year leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Glad we didn't do the same.
I'm sorry but punters are not supposed to get suspended. Ugh that sucks.
So what does our situation at punter look like for the first 4 now?
Can Wile punt?
Someone else already mentioned Forcier...
Can Matt Wile punt? Considering that Tate Forcier was the team's best punter after Hagerup last year, this is concerning. The ND game just got that much tougher...so did SDSU, for that matter.
Hope Wile likes pressure.
"Congrat's 18-year-old-freshman! You now have 3 weeks to prepare to be our kicking savior and our starting punter! Ready, set, be awesome!"
That seems like a lot to ask. I have to believe that it will take some of the fakes and roll-out punts that Hoke has been talking about off the table for the first four games.
Does anyone know exactly what Robinson and Hagerup did?
At this point, I think this would mean Wile would be our punter, because Hoke mentioned earlier this year that he can punt as well.
And I'm not sure how I feel about redshirting Stonum. It's better than just letting him play this year with no punishment (cough cough Notre Dame), but it's also a cop out by Hoke in the sense that he can come back and play next year, so it's not really a suspension of any kind.
How is sitting out 2011 to come back and play the 2012 season not a punishment for Stonum?
If I got this right, he can practice and participate in team functions still...this gives the coaching staff some leverage in their dealings (i.e. control) with Stonum...
Remember, he is from Texas and so you need someone to help parent him while he is here...that is what is truly best for Stonum
Yeah, they violated team rules.
Yeah, they violated team rules.
He has to sit out the entire season. In what sense of the word is that not a suspension?

A suspension that doesn't include a loss of pt isn't really much of a suspension. This is just a redshirt. There's actually quite a large difference. Assuming no additional infractions, he's a kid who will have had two DUIs and two probation violations -- but who never lost a substantial amount of playing time. He just gets a fifth year of free school. Real tough punishment. Stop rationalizing. It's sad.

He's suspended for the ENTIRE YEAR. Period.
If he was a freshman and was suspended for the ENTIRE YEAR, it would still be a redshirt. He'd still have 4 years to play football.
Eligibility 101, *$%^ass.
I disagree that forcing a redshirt is not a punishment.
Stonum was on pace to finish this year and move on with his life, probably as a late round draft pick.
Now he has to spend an entire year on the bench and in classes.
He'll also have to stay out of trouble that entire time or he's gone for good. Plus, who knows what other kind of punishment or rules Hoke has in place for him.
To me that is a punishment. It takes a year out of his life and could potentially cost his NFL stock when it comes time.
That's a much worse that what ND did...which was...nothing. I mean that guy is practicing full-speed from day one. That's ridiculous.
Well, it is a punishment. But it's kind of a weasely one because, in the long run, neither Michigan nor Stonum loses any game-time. They both get a full season's worth -- just one year later, when -- coincidentally -- Michigan may be needier at WR. This suspension is a softer alternative to suspending Stonum for x amount of games this season.
You really think that waiting a year of one's life, putting your life as you had planned out on hold, in suspension for a year, a year of watching teammates play the game you want to make a career, is soft punishment? Do you think he can just blink an eye and it will be over? A YEAR of one's life? You can take the long view and say that, in the end, things will be better (which is the goal of punishment). But the punishment is for Stonum. In his eyes, do you really think its soft? Sorry, but thinking this is soft is really dumb. And I mean surprisingly dumb.
at this stage in Stonum's career. And it's completely warranted, given his indiscretions. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he never played another down of football for Michigan. He hasn't shown any indication he's got the character to take his lumps and get focused.
First Kellen Jones, now Hagerup and Stonum. The season can't get here soon enough.
The kid is eligible to play by NCAA standards and is being held out by Hoke for his poor judgement. Think of it as the same as a one-year suspension of your driver's license. It sucks no matter how you look at it. Sure you get the privilege back after a year (just like a redshirt in this case) but the time spent watching everyone else get to do something that you desperately want to do stings.
This is a great opportunity for Stonum. He is not being abandoned like so many have been for transgressions. He also isn't being let off with no punishment. He will be mentored and helped to turn his life around. Next year he will get to resume doing something that he loves and will hopefully be grateful and will learn from his mistakes.
