The cradle of quarterbacks got thrown out with the dirty diapers 15 years ago.

Yea but can Pike grow a substantial mustache, for this seems to be a major requirement for enrollment at Purdue.
he can't possibly think he would dethrone Robert "Rob" Henry as starting QB.

Initiate second wave of speculation!
April 18th, 2011 at 11:52 AM ^
Weird, like everyone else is saying Auburn, but you're feeling it might be Michigan? Please say "yes".
April 18th, 2011 at 11:59 AM ^
weird as in purdue. cause thats really weird.
Could it be that Pike is interested in contuining the tradition of ripping Purdues heart out? Possible first comitting verbally to them before changing his commitmtnet to Michigan at the last minute.
Doubtful, but just think about it....
EDIT: double the pleasure and double the fun? No, just fail here.
April 18th, 2011 at 12:11 PM ^
Quick someone who isn't working right now do a quick search on "TomVH" and "weird feeling" to see what former recruits he said the same thing about, and that way we can get a better idea of what he means.
New level of stalking.
April 18th, 2011 at 12:16 PM ^
Last time TomVH used Weird Feeling in relation to a recruit announcing it was Tony Posada!
April 18th, 2011 at 12:17 PM ^
Great!
However, I feel like he might have used it for D'Anthony Arnett as well. Can anyone confirm? "Odd" might be the word he chose then. I think it in general means "toss up between us and another school".
(yes I know I am posting a lot for someone who is working)
April 18th, 2011 at 12:20 PM ^
I am working as well. haha I think it is even between us and Auburn. However, with Chris Barnett and Kaleb Ringer in his ear about Michigan I still think he chooses us come Wednesday.
April 18th, 2011 at 12:25 PM ^
Yes but to be fair as I look at that, he said he had a weird feeling in spite of the fact that other sources had told him Michigan. Implying that his weird feeling was that he was not sure.
Conclusion: All we can draw from this is that we're all just a little sad.
April 18th, 2011 at 12:39 PM ^
I am not a little sad. I also am not sure why anyone else here is a little sad. We haven't lost Pike so there is no need to act like we have. Even if Pike does choose another school, its April 18th not January 31st. Lots of time and no need for panic.
April 18th, 2011 at 12:42 PM ^
Not sad as in sad if we don't get him.
Sad as in we care so much about where this kid goes to that we're doing google searches to find when Tom last used a certain phrase to see if it has any bearing whatsoever on what this kid's decision might be.
In that sense, yeah we're all a little sad.
April 18th, 2011 at 12:46 PM ^
haha Guilty as Charged
April 18th, 2011 at 12:54 PM ^
but there are two reasons why Michigan would make more sense than Auburn IMO:
- Auburn runs the spread and emphasizes their QBs' ability to run, whereas Michigan wants to runt he pro-style. Auburn could always switch adapt to his abilities, but he seems like he fits what Michigan wants to do more than what Auburn wants to do offensively.
- Auburn has Kiehl Frazier coming in this fall, who is a dual threat QB and could very well be their starter by year's end. I would think it would be easier for Pike to come in and beat out Bellomy (even though I think Bellomy has a lot of potential) than to beat out Frazier in a system more favorable to Frazier's skill set.
1. Malzahn can and will adapt to Pike's strengths.
2. If DG is granted a medical redshirt (do we know yet?), Pike could potentially be looking at 3 years before being QB1.
+1 so hard.
good kind of weird or a bad kind of weird?
If he commits to Purdue, so help me...
April 18th, 2011 at 11:39 AM ^
Would love to have Zeke, but if he decides to go elsewhere, QB Morris for next year will be just as highly rated
April 18th, 2011 at 11:41 AM ^
It's Auburn or Michigan. Purdue is just a random school thrown in there. I have no idea what to expect here. PLEASE BE BLUE!
April 18th, 2011 at 11:51 AM ^
I understand people say it must be Audburn because of the timing..But couldn't you look at the other side of the coin, and say that he just took his visit and decided Michigan for him?? Or does the internet not work in that manner?
That is all.
April 18th, 2011 at 12:07 PM ^
I wonder if Auburn getting a gut punch from the NCAA down the road will change his mind.
dong punch, that is...
April 18th, 2011 at 12:07 PM ^
Pike may have been in SEC country last week, but Kaleb Ringer was in his ear about coming to Michigan. I do not know why everyone is so defeatist this morning. We have a lot of things working in our favor.
April 18th, 2011 at 12:11 PM ^
not to mention chris barnett.
April 18th, 2011 at 12:08 PM ^
There's always the chance that after getting to UGA and Auburn, Pike realized things just weren't looking any better at any school than M, and he didn't see the point in prolonging.
Stop it. There is no room for realism here.
April 18th, 2011 at 12:09 PM ^
It's gotta be Auburn considering the timing. Wasn't there a rumor Pike verbaled this weekend? Also TomVH's cryptic does nit sound good. It's not the typical "you should tune in" cryptic. It's the "I'm dumbfounded because he was really high on UM and now all of a sudden he's going o Auburn, the land of future NCAA sanctions" type of cryptic.
April 18th, 2011 at 12:11 PM ^
and decided, like many on this board, that QB was a problem here. I think that's very incorrect, but he may have come to the conclusion that Denard and DG are spread guys and we need a passer quick.
I heard the Auburn rumor this weekend, but TomVH brought me back to 50-50. Great that one of the top guys in the country is looking at us, anyway.
April 18th, 2011 at 12:30 PM ^
This kind of sounds like you're ready to write off both Denard and Gardner after one bad spring game - which occurred after both of them had gone through a grand total of 15 practices in a completely new offense.
Maybe you think Denard's too short and doesn't have the pocket feel to be truly successful away from a spread system. There may end up being truth to that, but it's sure as hell too early to tell. But if you can't see any potential for Gardner to thrive in a pro system, I don't even know what to tell you.
April 18th, 2011 at 12:36 PM ^
Means I don't think that's correct. As in not correct to think that way. Correct, not... No.
I am an enormous supporter of both Denard (for 2 more years) and DG. I chuckle at the freak out after the spring game performance - Borges will adapt, and Denard will thrive. I think DG will be special as well.
I'm an idiot. Consider this my eself-flagellation. Not sure how I missed those five words in your post.
Glad to see any voices in support of not taking the spring game too seriously. Carry on.
Besides, Denard isn't much shorter than Troy Smith, if at all, or even Drew Brees. You don't have to be 6-4 in college. Also, it's the coaching staff's job to figure out a way to take advantage of a talent like Denard. I'm sure they will figure out what works by September.
April 18th, 2011 at 12:14 PM ^
Just kidding.
I think we have a shot. I think it might be even between us and Auburn, actually. I agree, with the timing Auburn has to be favored slightly, We shall see...I would love PIke, but frankly, this is not the make-or-break recruit in this class. I think there are others, like Wormley, which are much bigger needs.
April 18th, 2011 at 12:29 PM ^
I think the timing works in Michigan's favor. After watching the subpar performance of the QB's at the Spring Game, Pike may have seen an opportunity for early playing time. Hoke may have also added more urgency to his recruiting pitch.
If he was at Auburn this weekend i would think there is a high probability that he did not get a chance to see our Spring Game. I know DVR, but still.

Hasn't been a lot of chatter about Kiel. Not sure if staff cooled on him/he cooled on us. Consensus seems to be that we'd be hard pressed to beat out ND for him. I'd imagine Mauk would be the top target if we miss on Pike.
April 18th, 2011 at 12:58 PM ^
Did Pike tell Tom that he plans on visiting Michigan a few more times when Tom spoke to him about that 7on7 incident? Tom, can you confirm this?
My heart is telling me Pike's going to Michigan. Chris Barnett is a good friend of his, he's spoken highly of us since his visit, and I feel like he realized the other schools don't compare to the Maize and Blue.
I nervously await his decision.
while i appreciate your optimism, there is clearly a bias in the way your framing the facts. pike has spoken highly of several of the schools he's visited. the fact that he immediately set a decision date after auburn could just as easily suggest that auburn blew him away. obviously i hope your right, but we are all just speculating until wednesday, or until we all start buying Tom shots and he gets drunk enough to spill the beans
