The former NBA All-Star is developing a limited scripted series, called Fab Five, that will tell the story of the group — Webber, Juwan Howard, Ray Jackson, Jimmy King and Jalen Rose — who constituted the greatest recruiting class in college basketball history when they enrolled at Michigan in the early 1990s and went to two NCAA championship games.

Webber told THR he is also working on a documentary about the Fab Five and his time at Michigan, which included two trips to the Final Four that were vacated after a later investigation revealed Webber was one of several players who had taken improper loans from a booster named Ed Martin. He said putting together the doc and writing the book have been "gut wrenching" at times, but "I think I'm better for it."

I wonder how limited it will be.  Not a tell-all but a tell-some?

But . . . I love C Webb.  Hope it is good.

Not so sure THR is the proper outlet, however.

i think he was very encouraged about all of this by his reception at the football game in nov of '18.   he got a lot of love that day from 110K fans.  combine that with the stuff the NCAA has let go in the interim 30 years with zero sanctions or slapped wrists of programs with 50x more egregious violations and i can see that being a well received effort.

Yep.

I'm still not down with Webber taking the money and lying about not taking the money...

... but compared to UNC for example, which had fake classes and fake grades for players who were enrolled in 0 credit hours of real classes, I just SMH head at how the program didn't get the death penalty and how the school kept its accreditation.

Will the other 4 readily sign up for this? Gotta figure Jalen could be a sticking point as his relationship with Webber has not been great to non-existent. Also, Juwan's situation changed about 18 months ago. Wonder if that will cause him to shy away a bit as well.

Juwan wasn't accused of taking money. This was such a special group of players and team coming together, that I can't imagine that it would hurt Juwan.  Michigan has welcomed the fab five back, as they always should have (really some of the best ambassadors of the game).  I like your take on Jalen.  I think he would want to support this. Great timing too, with the discussion of paying players in courts and making moves.

I see this as a huge win for Fab 5, Juwan, and Michigan.

So Webber refused to participate in the 2011 Fab 5 documentary that the other 4 did with ESPN, and now he wants to do his own version of the story.  Given he always refused to admit anything, this sounds a little like MJ producing his own documentary and rewriting history in The Last Dance.

Oh and I guess we can officially conclude that Webber is oddly not a “team player”.

The sad irony (for MIchigan fans anyways) is that in today's NCAA they would not get punished for what they did and nobody would give two shits about it.  I love the Fab Five and always will and cant wait to watch whatever Chris puts out.

Howeva......in today's NCAA Weber, Rose & Howard all leave for the NBA after the 91-92 season so we never get the incredible  2nd run for a title.  And we definitely dont get the seldom discussed run to the elite 8 in 94 which came razor close to making it again to the final four before losing late to the eventual national champions Arkansas.

The story says that Juwan and Ray will be consultants on the project. I'm assuming that means that Jalen and Jimmy will not. Interesting.

Now they just need to find five young actors who are between 6-5 and 6-9.

For Steve Fisher, I'd like Matthew McConaughey. Samuel L. Jackson can play Ed Martin.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy King and we go back and forth over text sometimes.  Chris does not talk to Jimmy King.  Jimmy and Jalen are pretty tight.  Jalen comes to his FabFive camp every year (pre-Covid). When Chris came back in ‘18, he didn’t reach out to Jimmy at all.  It’s really sad.

Michael Jordan was able to rewrite and ignore history with The Last Dance....why shouldn't the Fab Five?

I'm not a big fan of autobiographies or people having editorial control of documentaries about themselves. I find them interesting in the sense of seeing what people think of themselves, but I don't find it useful for finding out what actually happened. It's just a PR exercise.

i know i should be above this, but i'm not even slightly interested in what webber has to say.  we had to wander the wilderness for ten years due in some part to his refusal to own up and take some responsibility when it all came to light.  he still hasn't, and a 'scripted' series and some long-promised but yet-to-appear book aren't exactly signs he's ready to do so.

he played hot potato with the ball in that sacramento - laker series, now he just plays hot potato with the truth.  always will.

hopefully, this means, the entire Fab Five will be getting back together soon.

I think that they could have done something like a short version of "The Last Dance" if they have enough footage... (the espn 60 doc was great too, but they could have done a little bit more imo)

It would be nice to get all 5 guys back at Crisler for a game but tbh if Weber is still butthurt than I could care less about him coming back. He needs to get over himself and move on. The university clearly has after hiring Juwan Howard. They have reached out to Webber multiple times and no answer from him. Again no man is more important than the team (except harbaugh according to the harbaugh lovers)

CW was irked by Jalen's 30 for 30 and made it clear he was going to tell his version.  Here it comes.

I still see them publically appearing together in early 2021, especially with the passing of Donnie Kirksey which was very painful and united them in grief.

I would find it refreshing if it really did tell all.  Please describe EVERYTHING that was happening at Michigan that was against the then existing rules, AND please describe what was typically happening in comparable basketball programs that was against the then existing rules.  All we common fans ever hear is some version of everything is fine, nothing to see here (our program), or they all are dirty as _____ (our rivals).  I'd welcome a little realism.  Hell, it was almost 30 years ago; what would be the harm to anyone?
