We’re not getting better coaches to replace Drevno or Pep, are we?

Submitted by ShittyPlaceKicker on
All season long there was non-stop talk by Michigan fans on here and reddit about how they couldn’t wait for Harbaugh to clean house on offense. It’s almost February and nothing has changed. Is it safe to say at this point that there’s a really good chance that our coaching staff is going to look the same come our first game against Notre Dame? Has there been any news to indicate otherwise? If not, how do we all feel about this?

said, "you are what your record says it is". If you're happy with our record against OSU and MSU, you're correct.  Many complaining about the coaching are whiners.

But if you're not happy with the record, then calling out coaching is appropriate given the caliber of players the roster has.

I suspect if JH was asked to grade his offense coaching staff over the past two seasons, it will give them poor grades. Otherwise he would not have hired Enos and others to shore up the offense.

Oh, goody, we've reached the "blame the players" phase! Not the "the players aren't talented enough" phase, but the "if the fucking players just did what the coaches told them, it'd all be good" phase! This is surely the thinking that will take us to a dominant decade of multiple national championships!

I like how some people in our fan base take this holier than thou approach to watching the team. We’re allowed to criticize elements of the team as fans. We haven’t exactly had a lot to hang our hats on the past three years in case you haven’t been watching.

Looks like we're stuck.

Hopefully whatever magic they cooked up for the Ohio State offensive game plan and play calling can be repeated more than just once.

I have not heard or read anything new about this. No action whatsoever. Sam Didn't say anything. I was really hoping the couple of insiders who comment here would have something to share like UMBIG11. We will see. At this point our best bet is to hope for players to improve because they are year older and a mobile QB.

I just hope that someone can find a way to fix the disaster that is the OL. If they can do that then I don’t care if Pep and Drevno stay. But that’s where the real problem is. That’s where it’s been for the better part of a decade.

Our OL already sent two QBs to the hospital this past year. That’s got to be embarrassing for them.

Harbaugh is a great coach. He will not accept mediocrity. If he is keeping them just relax. Georgia kept their coaches. MSU keep their coaches. Both were abysmal offenses in 2016 and turned it around.

^^^ This !!!! The “Pep and Drevno Must Go!” meme cannot die soon enough, IMO. None of you guy beating this drum have any inkling of a) whether there is, in fact, a problem; b) if there is/was a problem, what that problem actually is; nor c) what Harbaugh & Co. are doing to rectify the problem(s). Your solution is fire, fire, and fire again. Maybe, just maybe, the problem isn’t the coaching staff and ‘17 was an anticipated roster lull that, although frustrating, is best handled by maintaining continuity and allowing the roster to grow into the scheme a bit more. Personally, I saw A SHIT TON of plays that were absolutely perfect, but the players weren’t able to execute. Is that coaching? I guess on some level, but maybe this season they’ll execute — after having learned from their mistakes — and the offense will be a monster. So many discount that Drevno was OC the previous years when the offense was marked more productive. Did he suddenly forget X’s and O’s or might it have had something to do with the relatively inexperienced Jimmies and Joes?

It severely disappoints me that Pep Hamilton still has a D1 coachimg job. In my opinion, the worst position coach we’ve had at UM in my lifetime.

Borges had Denard, Pep had to deal with three different QBs. If you can't see why it would be fair to give a second year to a coordinator that had the Michigan equivalent of Max Bortenschlager and some almost high school WRs, I am not sure I can convince your that water is wet.

I'm not optimistic about next season.  I suspect there will be many Saturdays this coming fall when I console myself by reminding myself "Self, it could be worse. Much worse."
