Voice of Reason: Colin Cowherd?

🔊@ColinCowherd: "Be honest about Harbaugh, it's about fear. He's outscored the Big-10 229-31, 19 players that will be drafted, and Ohio State is still really good, but Michigan has throttled them...The rush to judgment on the sign stealing scandal is all about fear." pic.twitter.com/jmFIBUudpN

I don't know if ESPN normally changes the rankings of teams after the CFP's first numbers come out, but if you look at the schedule on ESPN.com for tomorrow, Ohio State is ranked 1, Georgia 2, and Michigan 3. Like I said, this may be normal practice, it just caught me by surprise.

This is what Meyer said: “This is really the first time, because it’s you (Tim May) and because it's a guy I respect –so I’m very cautious. I’ve been asked over 100 times to comment on it, and I just won’t. But I am going to. I’ll tell you my thoughts: First of all, I’m very skeptical of reporters' reporting. My experience is they’re wrong most of the time. And that’s not a shot at the media, that’s reality. People say things that they’re reporting that’s just not true. So I’m going to give the benefit of the doubt saying, first of all, it’s hard for me to believe that is true. I also heard people say that,‘Well, everyone does that.’ And Tim, no one does that. I’ve never heard of that in 40 years of being around the game. There’s a very clear rule, and that rule – some will say it’s not that important. Once again, everybody is entitled to their opinion. If they know your signals, it is that important. You’re changing the game. That’s very egregious if that’s what happened. I’m not saying it did, because I’m still skeptical it did."

Yeah, trying to point out in any kind of forum that has fans of multiple teams on it that ESPN's coverage seems to be very happy to appear to take out a Big Ten team, a conference that they no longer have a vested financial interest in its success, while Fox, which does have an interest, has had more measured takes, apparently is just "Michigan cope."

Every time I read a comment about how this is driven by a nefarious ESPN agenda, I get a little sadder. This is straight out of the RCMB playbook: “ESPN hates us!”

I promise you, ESPN would love to see Michigan in the playoff, as the playoff is carried on ESPN and Michigan is a big draw.  And why would ESPN carry OSU’s water anyway?

Its absolutely about fear. Its why rival fanbases are practically begging the Big Ten to save them and execute some mob justice before anything is investigated.

Michigan needs to come out and absolutely throttle Purdue tomorrow.

Some teams have played extremely sleepy after bye weeks and Michigan too has started slow at home.

Come out and put up a crooked number...then let the we love Harbaugh chants begin.

Cowherd and Klatt are the only two who i've watched more than once since this started. Even Rich Eisen has been too anti-Michigan. Too 'both sides.'

The more info we get the more clear things are. PI firm (almost certainly from OSU, probably from Day) is tasked to dig up dirt on Michigan. They find we actually are the cleanest program. They find one minor violation with the CMU sideline. They realize nothing will come of this, but the actually legal sign stealing sounds bad so instead of going through the NCAA they start a smear campaign to win in the court of public opinion and try to use outrage to destroy Michigan.
