We can always make this…

We can always make this thread about both signgate and the women’s bb team

i was working at a concession stand at the basketball game last night.  Santa Ono stopped by to procure some refreshments.  He was smiling, friendly, and relaxed.  Kinda seemed like he felt he had nothing to worry about.

Read into that what you will

I was about to respond to…

I was about to respond to this thread with a bunch of words, but you encapsulated everything I was going to say with a simple onion reference

when i'm skimming thread…

when i'm skimming thread titles to click on i don't thoughtfully read every single word in every title.  i just scan everything and my brain picks out key words like names, schools, or things like hired/fired/injured/portal/etc.  so when i clicked, the only things i had processed were ben herbert/hired/purdue.  i think most people process information the same way, although my mom always did tell me i was special so idk

Juwan is easily the most…

Juwan is easily the most personable and down-to-earth athlete I've ever met.  His personality, his NBA pedigree, and the fact that he's young enough to step out on the court and take recruits to school are all things that should be huge hits on the recruiting trail.  I have no doubt he will be a fantastic recruiter, the only question is how good he'd be at evaluating talent.

I commuted from A2 to…

I commuted from A2 to Dearborn for 4 years, and I didn't think that was too bad.  I don't know how much worse going all the way to Detroit would be though.  The only real pain was in the winter, because Wayne County is much worse at keeping I-94 clear than Washtenaw.  There were a few days where I'd be doing 75mph in the morning on clear roads until I hit the county line at Rawsonville Road and suddenly there would be an inch of ice on the road and a car graveyard in the median.

I'll gladly overlook a few…

I'll gladly overlook a few typos in exchange for the many gems that appear each week in this feature.  I'm still giggling at the phrase "through a classic Northwestern tactic of “some bullshit”"

And Penn State at 4.00 YPC…

And Penn State at 4.00 YPC is actually the best run defense remaining on their schedule.  He had 200 yds and 158 yds against Indiana and Rutgers last year, and both of those teams have run defenses that are just as bad this year.

So you say that Michigan is …

So you say that Michigan is "surely leading the way", but you have no statistics to back that up and anyone disagreeing with you is "defending the messiah".  Come on.

I did a few google searches to see how many players MSU has lost to transfer and I came up with a list of 8 players just in 2018: Watts-Jackson, Stallworth, London, Jackson, Rison, deWeaver, Paulino-Bell, and Tipps-Clemons.  No idea how comprehensive that list is, but if Harbaugh has had 20 in three years and Dantonio has 8 in one year, then it doesn't look like Michigan is "surely leading the way".

Transfers are increasing everywhere, particularly grad transfers.  And considering that Michigan is three years removed from a coaching change and the usual weak recruiting class that results from that, I would expect to see an increase in transfers as those players get passed on the depth chart by players from stronger recruiting classes.  I would also expect higher transfer numbers from Michigan based on Harbaugh's policy of players having to earn a 5th year.  So they should be leading the way, but they aren't, at least not when compared to MSU.

Depends on their age, but…

Depends on their age, but the big hook that got my two oldest kids excited about Michigan football (when they were 7 and 8 years old) was finding out that there were players named Taco and Butt

That's exactly how I

That's exactly how I interpreted it too

Ty Cobb had a 6-6 3HR game

Ty Cobb had a 6-6 3HR game for the Tigers in 1925, and that was in an era when the average AL team only hit 67 home runs in a season.  For comparison, in 2016 the average AL team hit 197 home runs.

He only had 5 RBI that day though

There's also Jake Long in

There's also Jake Long in 2008, unless I'm wrong about what the current year is.  I assume he was trying to say that it had been over ten years since Michigan had two first rounders.  The last time that happened was 2005 with Braylon and Marlin Jackson.

I spent most of my college

I spent most of my college years bussing tables at the Cottage Inn restaurant on William St. in the mid 90s.  It paid really well for a busboy job, and it was kinda neat getting to see all the football and basketball players that came in with their meal vouchers.  Bo was a regular customer too.  I'll never forget the first time I saw him come in, because I was expecting that a former offensive tackle that always seemed larger than life on tv would be an imposing figure, but instead it was just a sweet little old man and I had to do a double take to make sure it was really him.  I guess I never paid enough attention to realize that he was only 5'10" and apparently weighed in at 206 in his playing days.

I was a Parke-Davis guinea

I was a Parke-Davis guinea pig too - got paid about 3k to test a diabetes drug called Rezulin (troglitazone).  Halfway through the trial they brought all of us guinea pigs in for a meeting to tell us that a couple people testing the drug in other locations had liver failure, and gave us the option to quit the trial and keep whatever compensation we had earned to that point.  I stuck with it because I needed the money, which in hindsight was very stupid because the drug was eventually pulled from the market after 63 people died of liver failure.  In order to get the drug approved in the first place, Parke-Davis apparently lied about the liver toxicity and got an FDA medical officer fired when he recommended against approval.

Ann Arbor average

Ann Arbor average temps:

Nov 2016 - 55.6 (normal avg is 48)

Dec 2016 - 32.3 (normal avg is 35)

Jan 2017 - 36.2 (normal avg is 31)

Feb 2017 - 43.7 (normal avg for Feb 1-21 is 34)

It's been a very mild winter

31-3

31-3 Michigan

Tiebreaker:

The part where I cheated and googled the photo:

L-R, Michigan head coach Bo Schembechler, shaking hands with Mickey Mouse, Captain James Mandich, TE, Rose Queen Pamela Tedesco, USC captain Bob Jensen, LB, Jim Gunn, co-captain and assistant coach Marv Goux.  The two teams clash 1/1/70 at the Rose Bowl.  UPI TELEPHOTO

The part where I didn't cheat:

Looks like Don Moorhead and Tom Curtis behind Bo's head, but I could be way off on those

I liked the part where they

I liked the part where they talk about the B1G Championship Game loss in 2013 and then in the next paragraph it mentions that he avoids pizza.

If a UM athlete is

If a UM athlete is representing a foreign country and competing head-to-head against an American, who are we supposed to cheer for?  And does it change your answer if the American athlete is a Buckeye?

Maybe it was a loophole I

Maybe it was a loophole I exploited because I needed an extra semester to finish my 2nd bachelors and it got double-counted because they were awarded at different times.  Or maybe somebody fat-fingered it and accidentally gave me 40 points instead of 20.  IDK and I'm certainly not going to ask why I have 40 points because the more I read on their site it seems it might have been a mistake.

Or maybe Brian can work out a

Or maybe Brian can work out a deal with the athletic department to let people convert MGoPoints into priority points.

Plus, if you transfer to UM

Plus, if you transfer to UM you'll get 20 priority points for a UM degree, and if you do a double major you'll get an additional 20 points for that 2nd bachelor's degree.  That's the equivalent of a 4k donation, but I guess that probably doesn't help you if you're trying to get tickets for this year's national championship run.

Saban, Bielema, Meyer, Ash,

Saban, Bielema, Meyer, Ash, RichRod, Brian Kelly, Dan Mullen, Tom Herman, Kevin Sumlin, Kirby Smart, and Gus Malzahn all have votes.  Somehow I've got a feeling Michigan is going to be consistently underrated in this poll.

I use Amazon Prime since I'm already paying for it.  It works well enough for me, but I'm not exactly a demanding connoisseur of online music streaming services so I have no idea how it compares to the other options

I think DrMantis is on the right track.  If Sam got intel about Wormley being a 3tech, then there are some fairly logical conclusions you can make to come up with a "gut feeling" about what that means for the rest of the two deep.  Or maybe Doc Brown gave him the keys to the Delorean and Sam has already seen what happens in fall camp.

I had to guard former Sparty

I had to guard former Sparty Thomas Kelley in high school - he dropped 32 points on me.

Also had to guard Jerod Ward in a game at the CCRB, held him scoreless because he was too slow to get past me and his only offensive move was pushing off with his forearm.  I'm sure he could have scored at will if he posted me up because he has 9 inches on me, but he didn't.

I got married in Ann Arbor in

I got married in Ann Arbor in 2003.  Ceremony was indoors in a church, so I can't help you there.  We picked Kensington Court for the reception because the food was decent and reasonably priced, and because we had a lot of out-of-town guests who like to drink and who didn't know the area, so having a location near the freeway with lots of hotels within stumbling distance was important.  Whatever you do, make sure to plan an excursion around town to get pictures with your wedding party at the Law Quad, Bo statue, etc.  I think you can also rent out the stadium for an hour for pictures.

I did go to an outdoor wedding at Concordia a few years back and thought it was pretty nice.

The American flag clearly

The American flag clearly indicates winds coming out of the SW.  The 1990 MD game had NNE winds, the 1989 MD game had SE winds, and the 1985 game had SW winds.

Exactly.  Unless the alumni

Exactly.  Unless the alumni team gets some practice time, even Tom Brady is going to struggle throwing to a bunch of RichRod/Hoke guys who played under completely different systems.

Agree with this.  Camp

Agree with this.  Camp Randall is my favorite B1G venue after Michigan Stadium.  Great sound system and some neat traditions like the fifth quarter, the students singing Varsity at the end, and the playing of Jump Around before the 4th quarter.  It's pretty fun being in the upper deck for Jump Around and thinking you're going to die because you're on a cantilevered concrete structure with 15,000 idiots all jumping at the same time and making it sway up and down.

Why does everybody keep

Why does everybody keep making all these condescending comments about using Google?  Maybe I'm dumb, but all I've been able to figure out from googling is that Michigan is having 4 practices at IMG Academy some time during spring break, which runs from Feb 27 to Mar 6, and that the spring game is Apr 9.  Seems to me that it's a valid question to ask if there is an exact date.  Last year, there was a press release that had exact dates for all 15 practices.  So assuming that the IMG practices are open to the public so that potential recruits could attend, when should I show up there if I want to watch?  Just come on Feb 27th and bring a tent in case I need to wait a few days?

FWIW last year's press release came out on Feb 23 and the first practice was Feb 24, so I would assume it will be another week or so before we get more details.

Not sure where the data comes

Not sure where the data comes from for that article, but MSU having only 7 arrests during that time period is laughable.  And the 5 year time frame conveniently just misses the December 2009 fight involving 15 players, 11 of whom were charged with crimes.

We scored 28 points against

We scored 28 points against PSU on fewer yards than we had aginst OSU.  The PSU result was right in line with expectation based on yards per point; the OSU result was not, largely due to the poor field position that results from forcing only one punt and zero three and outs (not counting garbage time).  That should be much less of a concern against Florida.

these guys were also fifth-year seniors in 2011:
