UM winning out pretty much sends MSU to the Rose Bowl

I'm sure both fanbases would take it but it's still a weird/unfortunate scenario.

None of that matters though.  I could cheer for UM or any other school including my own and it wouldn't affect the game.  I will do the same as I always do for UM.  I watch the game and hope it is entertaining.  If you guys win, you win.  If you lose, you lose.  I just want a good game.

I think most MSU fans feel this way with some portion of the fan base that hates UM and would like a loss.

However, none of this matters because Ohio State and Wisconsin are two outstanding teams and although I see an improvement with UM this year, I would assume you guys lose and end up 7-5.  Nothing wrong with that, it's momentum to carry on to next year.

As annoying as it would be to see a mediocre MSU team go to the Rose Bowl, it is kind of funny knowing that they probably wouldn't be able to go but for the help of their Big Brother.

ya i could care less what happens to MSU, but it will be funny when they get stomped by someone like Bama in their bowl game..

MSU fans will have such high expectations for next year, and with all their losses coming up next year on D it looks like they won't be going 11-1 anytime soon again.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but while winning out would be great, winning only one of the next two would be bad in terms of bowl games. Beating Wisconsin or OSU would mean that the Big Ten loses the BCS at-large spot, which means everyone else gets bumped down a notch. And since according to ESPN we're not going to beat out Penn State for a bowl since it might be JoePa's last ... we might end up at the Texas Bowl or something. Still warm, though, for Darryl Stonum's sake.

Not only will it be great to beat Wisconsin and OSU, but nothing will cure my New Years Eve hangover better than watching the Wolverines win a bowl game, followed by the Spartans getting rocked by Stanford.

Abraham Lincoln's letter to General Joseph Hooker:

"I have heard, in such a way as to believe it, of your recently saying that both the army and the government needed a dictator. Of course it was not for this, but in spite of it, that I have given you the command. Only those generals who gain success can be dictators. What I now ask of you is military success, and I will risk the dictatorship."

Get the victories, we can risk MSU in the Rose Bowl.

I was thinking about this yesterday.  Then I realized, if Michigan finished 9-3, and had beaten Ohio State and Wisconsin, and was headed to a January 1 bowl game and probably in the top 15, and Denard was likely back in the Heisman talk, I probably wouldn't care a whole lot that cute little Spartina was going to Pasadena to get their asses whooped.  Especially since the talk all off-season at that point will be Michigan coming back to be a top-ten team and in the national-title talk.

OSU is on a streak of Big Ten titles. I don't care if its MSU or Wiscosin who goes to the Rose Bowl, but I desperately want OSU to lose one of their last two games. Please let it be us that pulls the upset.

Good, it'd mean that we're 9-3, going to a Florida New Year's day bowl, and that we'll finish somewhere in the top 4 of the Big Ten.

It'll also mean that we see Sparty get smacked down in Pasadena by Stanford, Boise, or TCU.

It's Sparty-like to want to sacrifice the good of our program for the misfortune of theirs.

I'll cry the day I want to see them suffer more than I want to see us win.

I'm fairly certain that there are new rules for the Rose Bowl. If the Big Ten or Pac 10 champ plays in the national championship game (Oregon this year) The Rose Bowl has to replace them with a non-aq conference school (Boise or TCU) Because of this, Stanford won't be playing in the Rose Bowl. Whoever wins the Big Ten will end up playing Boise or TCU. I would love to see Sparty get smoked by one of them.

The vast majority of the MSU nation hates Michigan more than they like their own team.  Which backed up by the fact that a couple of seasons ago Dantonio did not want Michigan to win a game even though it would have sent his team to a better bowl, also the fact that they still have trouble selling out games at Spartan Stadium in the midst of a 1 loss season.  Hating another team more than you like your own team is the fastest way to delegitimize a fanbase.

by either TCU, Boise State, Stanford or Oregon.

Regardless, I don't care if MSU makes the Rose Bowl.  If Michigan can win out, it's a sure sign of progress and all set up for a run for the Big Ten title assuming that the defense makes progress from this year to next year.

Would pretty much make me the happiest guy in the world (now that I've adjusted to the 3 losses).  You're looking at a top 20, probably top 15 team going into a bowl game if that happened and that'd be totally awesome!  On top of that think of all those recruits who are waiting to see how we do - they'd be committing to UM faster than Tom could get their Hello posts ready!

Sorry, if I missed it, but I can't believe that no one mentioned that beating OSU would send MSU to the Rose Bowl. As long as MSU and OSU are tied in first place, it's always going to come down to BCS. If we beat OSU, Wisconsin loses the head-to-head with MSU.

The best thing that could happen is for MSU to lose to PSU so that winning our last two games would setup the tie again and the highest rated would go. I would guess that would be Wisconsin for winning the last week.

against OSU. If we get a lead, will his perpetual "I've got a hemorrhoid the size, texture, and hardness of a lemon" expression dissolve into a smile?

If MSU wins out and Wisconsin and OSU lose to us, they deserve to go to the Rose Bowl. They're having a great season, I don't see what the problem is here. Would anyone seriously pass up on beating Wisconsin and/or OSU just to avoid having to listen to MSU fans talk about going to the Rose Bowl?

Judging from some of the blog and radio comments after the Illinois and PU games, I am certain that some of the fire RR/Hire Harbaugh crowd secretly want us to lose both games badly to buttress their case. There were people calling into the local WTKA post-game show after Illinois actually stating that they were disappointed we won because it made the firing of RR less likely.

I don't think anybody should assume that MSU's got this locked up, in part because of the possible scenarios involving Paterno.

1). JoePa announces before the game that this is his last season, meaning the MSU game is the last regular season game for him at Beaver Stadium.

2). JoePa doesn't say anything, but in the absence of information, speculation is rampant that the MSU game is his last regular season game in Beaver Stadium.

3). JoePa announces he's coming back next season.

If either 1 or 2 are the case, then MSU is going to be facing an absolutely frenzied PSU team and stadium.

If #3 is the case, the PSU team and fans will still be charged up, but only for the normal game reasons.

It's an unfortunate side-effect of winning. It's likely either going to be them or OSU (or Wisco), and honestly, I will be happy if we ended up denying OSU the roses. Heck, it would be fun denying both OSU and Wisco, it's fun to play the spoilers.

Plus in the end, we'd be able to say "Dear MSU, You're welcome. Love, Michigan"

But they still have to beat PSU at Happy Valley...clearly no walk in the park.

In any event, will anyone around these parts care if that happens? We'd be 9-3 damnit! It would be our D finally has gelled, and our offense is a monster.
