He has finished up his summer

He has finished up his summer coursework to be in good academic standing. That is why this announcement has come at this time. It's not strange timing or any sort of conspiracy. The kid wants to play at MSU instead of UM. He finally had a committable offer when his grades came in.

Not a flame or a slight against UM. You guys have a great class, but you can't get them all.

Bunch of cheaters

Leave the basketball to Tom Izzo and THE Michigan State University.

What a terrible tragedy

Thoughts and prayers go out to the Hatch family.

He could still be alive...

(takes off glasses)... if he wasn't such a jackass.

Whooooo are you? Who, who? Who, who?

"Trolling"

Not much of a sense of humor going on over here on mgoblog.  Lighten up Francis.  It's a message board in a thread talking about universities serving as metaphorical brothers.  LOL.

lol

This post is awesome.

Mgo posters...

I do try to come here for normal conversation about MSU/UM stuff.  I know you are just trying to flame me and all but Greg Jones getting drafted in the 6th doesn't really have an impact on the Alabama game.

Alabama had an outstanding team. They may have had their own issues that I have absolutely no clue about but it's clear that Nick Saban is a good coach and he has built himself quite a resume. That team was/is stacked.

Not sure why I get neg'd on here other than maybe my name?  Seems odd. Perhaps I should go to a different UM board?

OK Alabama? Say what?

Alabama with the former Heisman winner and just had 4 1st round draft picks.  They underachieved last year but that was one of the best teams in the country.  Come on now.

A level headed post.

Finally.  We had the last spring game in the conference and one of the last in the country. Now that the kids are on campus, they're committing. I think Bullough and McGowan are solid players.  The high 3 or low 4 star type of kids. Higgins is more of the MAC level type that so many are ripping on but he's a big kid and OL-men tend to come on stronger after summer camps so we'll see where he falls.

Dantonio definitely benefited from having the pro style offense in Michigan. However, he also goes to Ohio to recruit quite a bit. Some people are acting like this is the first time Michigan/MSU has gone for the same type of players.  It's only been a few years since Carr left, lol.  How quickly we forget...

NU is Different

They are a private school and their Chicago campus is regarded as the same as Evanston.  I can't speak for PSU or IU but Northwestern doesn't have lesser campuses like a Dearborn/Flint or IU's various campuses.

No thanks

I'm secure enough in my education and career that I don't need to rag on other people for where they went to school.  I'm above that as I'm sure many other Spartans are as well.

I guess

It's not my problem.  He's the one that will have to pay a fine if the charge doesn't get dropped.  I don't know the details if he had it on himself or if it was just inside his car.  He may have forgotten about it but either way it's a stupid move.  He'll receive his citation and move on, I don't think his license will be revoked.

Wait

I thought Linthicum was arrested for 3rd degree assault for fighting the guy in the bar and then eluding police.  Did he actually fight officers and then get tasered?  I didn't know that.  If he actually faught the cop, then suspending him for 2 spring practices is ridiculous.  Do you have a link?

Resident Spartan Here

I don't see a big deal with this one.  We're talking about a citation and a low level misdemeanor.  I can't say driving on a suspended license is the right thing to do but what further punishment would you want?

The firearm doesn't bother me.  He should have let the officer know and he'll pay a fine but he obtained it legally and if he has the proper identification, then I don't see an issue there.  I own several guns and I'm pretty old school about firearm laws.  He should have been thinking better though, for sure.

The fighting is a much bigger issue since you can do harm to others.  Driving on the suspended license though is pretty stupid.  Even if he suspends him for a game, the kid would just sit on the bench as usual.  We're talking about a guy that recorded 6 tackles?

You are going to be in for a long year...

UM hasn't looked this bad since RR's first season.  I would be very cautious about my expectations.  I've never commented on a spring ball game but this looks... bad.  I'll just leave it at that and expect to get flamed b/c of my handle.

tRCMB is a much larger site tRCMB is a much larger site part of 24/7 as opossed to a message board on a blog. You're going to get a lot of differing opinions when you have several thousands of people generating traffic. This is stupid to argue about anyway. It would appear that most people think the answer is 288 (I would agree). You're always going to have those that see it differently but the point of the poorly written equation is to spark debate. If it were meant to be a straight forward equation, you wouldn't have this ridiculousness spreading throughout a bunch of message boards filled with nerds attempting to one up each other as some sort of metaphorical dick measuring contest. Anywho, carry on with your superior intellect. I think I'm in over my head here at mgoblog where the true master minds of the modern age reside.
This thread is the epitome of the UM fan base Just so many generic insults thrown at MSU fans over a poorly written math equation. An equation that is meant to be controversial and doesn't necessarily provide a correct answer. The thread then devolves into an argument amongst said "elitists" formerly claiming to be above the "sparty no" debate. 7 pages later... Lol. Enjoy your slice of humble pie for those that have the mental maturity of a small child.
My point is, you aren't going

My point is, you aren't going to see some bandwagon fan wearing a Tennessee Mountain State University hat.  It's March and he's wearing a State hat, it would be logical that maybe he's a State hoops fan.

He also had on a Spartan hat

He also had on a Spartan hat at some event about a year ago.  I don't really know if he has any connection, but he's probably a hoops fan and just follows our final four runs.

I would assume this guy isn't

I would assume this guy isn't in accounting/finance.  The time value of money of over 3 million in 4 years compared to 2 million over 30 years is huge.  You can live a comfortable lifestyle off of pure interest on moderate investments.  This isn't even taking into account the immediate purchasing power of receiving that cash up front in that 4 year span.  Seems like an uninformed/illogical post.

It's also not the fault of the owners that so many players are irresponsible with their money.  I don't have much sympathy for guys making 700K per year a few years after college while having 0 debt.  That's a huge leg up on the rest of the population and you can afford to be a bit risky with your investments at such a young age with that cash flow.

Agreed.  I don't listen to

Agreed.  I don't listen to the other Detroit area shows because it's all the same UM stuff.  I moved away and sometimes listen to the show online but I would never listen to the other shows.  I don't get why UM fans are so concerned about Valenti.  Just listening to some of these callers is hilarious.  It's like every chicken little has called in to justify their opinion.  I'm not surprised someone made a thread, probably one of those chicken little callers.

So wait... a guy you work

So wait... a guy you work with has a son at MSU that happens to live in the same dorm as the freshman.  This supposedly happened at orientation, correct?  So now the son not only lives currently in the same dorm but he also signed up for the same orientation date and heard the incident?  He then also listened in to investigators talking about the rape?  Wow.  That's a resourceful and lucky kid to just have these things happen around him.

Didn't the police take statements from the girl that then changed her story?  Did they not interview both suspects including the kid in the connecting room?  Was a rape test not conducted?  After pursuing the case, did the prosecutors office decide they had no evidence to go on?  Why is the prosecutors office protecting 2 freshman players but not like 15 guys on the football team?  Hmmmm... who has more holes in their story, the prosecutors office or you co-workers son?  I'll let you decide...

None of that matters though.

None of that matters though.  I could cheer for UM or any other school including my own and it wouldn't affect the game.  I will do the same as I always do for UM.  I watch the game and hope it is entertaining.  If you guys win, you win.  If you lose, you lose.  I just want a good game.

I think most MSU fans feel this way with some portion of the fan base that hates UM and would like a loss.

However, none of this matters because Ohio State and Wisconsin are two outstanding teams and although I see an improvement with UM this year, I would assume you guys lose and end up 7-5.  Nothing wrong with that, it's momentum to carry on to next year.

Wow.  A bunch of worthless

Wow.  A bunch of worthless MSU/UM trolls ripping each other.  Sweet thread.

Perhaps we can get back on topic.

If I were a big time recruit

If I were a big time recruit and I could get playing time at a D1 school, I'd pick Michigan.  I'm MSU alum so I'll take them off my list.  I'd pick UM because of the education and it's close to my family.

I'd also look at Florida since it's also close to family.  Both schools would offer a good education and have a tradition of success.  However, if I'm a QB or TE or something on offense in general, I'd question both schools.  I'd want a pro offense so I would ideally want to go to MSU.

If it's likely I'm not going to play in the NFL and am borderline D1 player, a school like Duke or Northwestern would be on my list too.  My GPA was decent when I was applying to schools so it's likely I wouldn't have been accepted to a top university so I'd take advantage of the athletic scholarship and get a solid degree with all that is offered to help athletes.  Perhaps Ivy league if possible?  So much to consider though with coaching staffs and where I felt comfortable.  Who knows?

Brent Mitchell?

I would take anything Brent Mitchell has to say with a truck load of salt.  That's like asking Osama what he thinks of Midwestern culture and taking his word for it.  I remember reading after those first few initial articles that the ski mask thing was overblown and the video showed guys in hoods and baseball caps.  Pretty typical of 18-22 year old guys.
