Semi-OT: Coaching carousel is getting crowded (or spaces are opening up? I don't know)

Per 247

Head Coaches:

  • SDSU - Brady Hoke is retiring
  • Mississippi State - Zach Arnett is fired
  • Boise State - Andy Avalos is fired
  • TAMU - Jimbo Fisher is fired
  • michigan state - mel tucker told to talk to the hand. he misinterpreted that instruction and got fired as a result.

Offensive Coordinators:

  • Penn State - Mike Yurcich fired
  • Arkansas - Dan Enos fired
  • Indiana  - Walt Bell fired (replaced with Rod Carey)
  • Iowa - Brian Ferentz pre-fired

Defensive Coordinators:

  • USC - Alex Grinch fired

Not including Colorado who demoted their OC Sean Lewis (still on staff).

Top HC jobs have to be TAMY and, followed by MSU (not that MSU), msu (ytmsu), BSU, then SDSU.

Will be super interesting to see who PSU and Iowa hire for their OC positions.

Since USC will be in the Big Ten next year, their DC job still has a great level of interest for us (until it doesn't).

This isn't even the first time it happened to Mississippi State. I don't remember exactly how immediately the firings were, but the 2019 Egg Bowl ended with both coaches fired after an Ole Miss wide receiver pretends to be a dog and pee after a touchdown, leading to a flag and a missed game tying PAT.   The piss, the miss, the double dismiss.

+1 for the Mel Tucker comment alone...  LMAO - well done!

Did Deione really demote his OC - like offense was their problem?  WTH?  The Buff's defense is every bit as 'good' as USC's defense!

Er… Missouri has to be second-worse.  Mississippi has a ton of home-state talent. What Mizzou is doing this year is totally out of character

And for that very reason you soon can add Missouri to the list of schools that will be looking for a HC cuz Drinkwater gonna be moving on up somewhere.

Not true about Mizzou. According to Rivals, Missouri has 23 3 stars and above and 2 5 stars. Kentucky has 17 3 stars and Arkansas 18, and neither have 5 stars. South Carolina has 20 and no 5 stars. Mizzou's problem since Pinkel left was not locking down the state.

Missouri has two major metro areas with only 1 FBS school. KY has 3 FBS schools, AR has 2 and so does SC. That's like dividing the recruits up.

Whoever locks down the state of MO will have success.

From the outside it's probably still viewed as a decent job. Guys will look at Tuck's one great year and think, "I could do that, too, with a few breaks." (This is where I doubt that validity of said thought.)

No one is looking at MS State and thinking, "I can win 10 games there." They're thinking, "If I'm not careful I will lose 10 games there."

I floated this in another thread, but I wonder if Joe Moorhead would consider a return to PSU. He's 4-18 at Akron and staring down consecutive 2-10 seasons. He also would probably get a pay bump as OC at a blue-ish blood, especially one where he already had lots of success.

My son-in-law is a PSU fan and came to the house on Sunday for dinner.  Complained about their OC and wanted him fired.  Not 10 minutes later I saw it posted that he was indeed fired and showed him the headline.  Big smile -- until I told him that Brian Ferentz was being considered as the replacement!

Is there any actual info on what happened with this? There's no way anyone would rationally downgrade Sean Lewis and replace him with Pat fucking Shurmur without something weird going on behind the scenes
