Record year for JJ and Roman?

A few weeks ago I created a post about who might break a record this year.  mwolverine1 added some great info on how the current UM record would have rated for an individual in 2022.  I added that and highlighted in green those that would be most easily achievable.

I then added the current stats of players from game 1 and compared it to what they would need to average over 13 games as the worst case scenario.  Obviously, going all the way, makes it substantially easier.  Many noted that the QB records are the most likely to fall.

JJ is on pace to possibly break several UM records this season. It's only one data point but as Brian noted earlier today, last year "felt like promise; here it felt more like a preview."

Our new #1 receiver Roman Wilson is also tracking very nicely for a possible record.  However 19 receiving TDs is more than anyone had last year for any team.  So, that is a tall hill to climb but 3 in the first game is a fantastic start!

In 1991, three records were set between Elvis Grbac and Desmond Howard.  It would be great to see those records fall this year on the way to the most important statistic.

Hopefully, we can set a record for the most important stat at 15 this season.

Board reaction following a loss:

  • Will we ever win another game?  Many experts say no
  • Can we fire the entire coaching staff?
  • Why do all our players suck?
  • Officials obviously hate us, the fix was in!

Board reaction following a win:

  • Will we ever lose another game?  Many experts say no
  • Can we sign the entire coaching staff to lifetime contracts?
  • Could Michigan possibly get all five slots at this year's Heisman presentation?
  • Those really werent bad calls that went our way.  They were judgement calls.

no, on roman wilson. there are other weapons, the ball will distribute. Throw is up to barner in the end zone... johnson was 75%... loveland is a great weapon. they will run in 1/2 the TDs.. if not more.. so.. I think wilson ends the year with 8-9 TDs.

JJ completed passes to 8 different receivers-only 23% were to Roman and he was 4th among the catchers in ypc. Roman was the recipient of the most elite throws and made the most elite receptions-he also dropped one. There would seem to be more than coincidence in play regarding who caught the TDs. Sometimes there are players who simply have "it" in these regards.

It's just one data point. So far. Anything can happen. Let's wait at least two more weeks. One to draw a straight line, and the second to figure out any trends.

The only "record" I care about is 15-0.

To get there, we need to continue to change our approach to offense as conditions dictate, quickly and decisively. That was what I liked best about Saturday. JJ stepped up and performed well, but the fact that he was given the opportunity so quickly is what matters.

Maintaining this willingness to do what works during the conference schedule will be key to how far we go this year.

"TDs responsible for" - Denard Robinson - 36

In one season.  That's a large number.  Of all the records shown in the list, that one seems least likely to be broken anytime soon.  I guess if JJ throws for 30 TDs I could see him scoring 7 TDs with his legs.  Maybe.

This one and Braylon's 97 receptions is likely one that will stand the test of time.

I have felt confident all offseason that JJ would destroy the single season passing TDs record, which is unbelievably soft. I didn't really think about the completion percentage record but that seems well within JJ's capabilities based on one game.

I think JJ ends up spreading the wealth among the receivers so it may be difficult to break the single season receiver records.
