Record year for JJ and Roman?
A few weeks ago I created a post about who might break a record this year. mwolverine1 added some great info on how the current UM record would have rated for an individual in 2022. I added that and highlighted in green those that would be most easily achievable.
I then added the current stats of players from game 1 and compared it to what they would need to average over 13 games as the worst case scenario. Obviously, going all the way, makes it substantially easier. Many noted that the QB records are the most likely to fall.
JJ is on pace to possibly break several UM records this season. It's only one data point but as Brian noted earlier today, last year "felt like promise; here it felt more like a preview."
Our new #1 receiver Roman Wilson is also tracking very nicely for a possible record. However 19 receiving TDs is more than anyone had last year for any team. So, that is a tall hill to climb but 3 in the first game is a fantastic start!
In 1991, three records were set between Elvis Grbac and Desmond Howard. It would be great to see those records fall this year on the way to the most important statistic.
Hopefully, we can set a record for the most important stat at 15 this season.

I don’t think anyone is touching Curtis’ record anytime soon.

I was thinking the same thing about Simpkins. too much player rotation

1902: Albert Hernstein rushes for 26 TDs. 1905: Albert Einstein proposes the theory of special relativity. Coincidence?

LOL, football is a science and science is like a game of football, especially in astro-physics.

Football is the perfect shape!
There's a football field in the middle of the blackholes.
The rules of football are the last to vanish in Hawking Radiation.
There'll be a football at the center of the universe at the end of time.
The universe is a football being inflated by ...
never mind.

I am on pace to set the record for most nachos eaten. The record for beers consumed appears to be safe. For now.

One game, dude. One game.

Never waste a good overreaction.
September 5th, 2023 at 4:54 PM ^
Board reaction following a loss:
- Will we ever win another game? Many experts say no
- Can we fire the entire coaching staff?
- Why do all our players suck?
- Officials obviously hate us, the fix was in!
Board reaction following a win:
- Will we ever lose another game? Many experts say no
- Can we sign the entire coaching staff to lifetime contracts?
- Could Michigan possibly get all five slots at this year's Heisman presentation?
- Those really werent bad calls that went our way. They were judgement calls.

I might add
What will it take to turn our recruiting around. (It is awful.)
How do we keep this recruiting machine going and isn't it wonderful that it doesn't matter given how good our staff is at player development.

don't forget:
who the hell is calling plays? why do we continue to run up the middle when they have 10 in the box?

College football equivalent of MLB's opening day "on pace guy".

3 TD’s a game…THE BALL DON’T LIE!
September 5th, 2023 at 5:05 PM ^
More really, since the guys took the 4th off. call it 4/game conservatively, minimum.
September 5th, 2023 at 5:07 PM ^
Ahh yes, Messieurs Shane Halter and Chris Shelton…the All April Hall of Famers.
September 5th, 2023 at 5:05 PM ^
no, on roman wilson. there are other weapons, the ball will distribute. Throw is up to barner in the end zone... johnson was 75%... loveland is a great weapon. they will run in 1/2 the TDs.. if not more.. so.. I think wilson ends the year with 8-9 TDs.
September 6th, 2023 at 6:34 AM ^
JJ completed passes to 8 different receivers-only 23% were to Roman and he was 4th among the catchers in ypc. Roman was the recipient of the most elite throws and made the most elite receptions-he also dropped one. There would seem to be more than coincidence in play regarding who caught the TDs. Sometimes there are players who simply have "it" in these regards.

A great start for but I'll wait until Big-10 play starts, so let's see them keep rolling through September.
September 5th, 2023 at 5:15 PM ^
I said by the middle of the ECU game that McCarthy will break the single season TD pass record at Michigan and I'm sticking to that
September 5th, 2023 at 5:28 PM ^
So, after he threw 2 TDs in the first half of the opener, you predicted that a guy who threw 22 TD passes last year would throw 26 this season?
Dang, that's going out on a long limb.

It's just one data point. So far. Anything can happen. Let's wait at least two more weeks. One to draw a straight line, and the second to figure out any trends.
September 5th, 2023 at 5:48 PM ^
More passing ? More receiving? More scoring?
Yes, please!
September 5th, 2023 at 6:55 PM ^
This Saturday we score +45
September 5th, 2023 at 9:35 PM ^
The only "record" I care about is 15-0.
To get there, we need to continue to change our approach to offense as conditions dictate, quickly and decisively. That was what I liked best about Saturday. JJ stepped up and performed well, but the fact that he was given the opportunity so quickly is what matters.
Maintaining this willingness to do what works during the conference schedule will be key to how far we go this year.

"TDs responsible for" - Denard Robinson - 36
In one season. That's a large number. Of all the records shown in the list, that one seems least likely to be broken anytime soon. I guess if JJ throws for 30 TDs I could see him scoring 7 TDs with his legs. Maybe.
This one and Braylon's 97 receptions is likely one that will stand the test of time.
September 5th, 2023 at 10:47 PM ^
With the rule change on time-outs leading to fewer plays per game, I think we’re less likely to see records broken.
September 6th, 2023 at 2:32 AM ^
Kind of unbelievable that Desmond caught 19 of Grbac's 25 TDs in 1991...
September 6th, 2023 at 8:54 AM ^
The Magic Man!
September 6th, 2023 at 11:48 AM ^
I have felt confident all offseason that JJ would destroy the single season passing TDs record, which is unbelievably soft. I didn't really think about the completion percentage record but that seems well within JJ's capabilities based on one game.
I think JJ ends up spreading the wealth among the receivers so it may be difficult to break the single season receiver records.
September 6th, 2023 at 2:06 PM ^
we need another Denard on the roster.... DAMN was he fun to watch.
September 6th, 2023 at 2:39 PM ^
True, though I think the mold was broken, there will never be another Denard.
That true freshman RB from ECU, Javious Bond, had some jet. I could definitely see him uptransferring down the road.
