OT - Which state flag do you like / hate the most?
Slow Friday afternoon... might as well start something discussion-worthy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_the_U.S._states
Which state flag do you love or hate the most? For me, the favorite is Alaska's: Simple, meaningful and easily stand out. The worst is Maryland's... The pattern, the Confederate-related cross and it just looks bad anywhere (not only on uniforms). Bonus: Most schizophrenic - Oregons's. A yellow beaver on the reverse side?! Really?!
So what's yours?
It looks kind of like a fishhead.
I see a resemblance.
mmmmm, yeah, Ohio... did you get the memo? It's just that we decided we're using rectangular flags. So if you could just go ahead and make your flag rectangular, that would be great. And I'll see that you get another copy of that memo.
EDIT: Also not fond of pretty much any of the flags from the former confederate states.
I like Michigan and all but to be honest, the whole "State coat of arms on a blue background" thing is overdone.
I'm a fan of California's. A big bear is tough to beat.
Wyoming has a cow that swallowed a huge coin. THAT is tough to beat.
It's a bison, actually, which is even better.
is tattooed on my chest . . . well, the coat of arms anyways.
And you are correct.
See but I've improved on that flag.
The correct answer to this question is
Incidentally we also have the best state motto: Manly Deeds, Womanly Words.
Can only be spoken by Tim Allen in his home improvement voice
THE CIRCUMSPICE!
Worst...only correct answer is Ohio.
The palmetto is good. Maryland is best.
I dig Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico for the geometric simplicity and bold colors. They do it right out west.
Cosign 100%
Worst - Alabama...if Florida can outclass your flag, you're doing it wrong.
It took FIVE posts to bring up that shitty state down south? WTF?
Actually, the very first reply did.
Maryland is clearly the winner for best state flag. I am ot sure about the gratuitous use of it across sports paraphanalia but as a straight up flag it wins in my book. I also like Colorado quite a bit.
Agreed on both. I live in Louisville and there are a couple folks who wave the Maryland flag and it's awesome.
Colorado is ok. Always makes me think of the Cubs.
The design of the flag comes from the coats of arms of George Calvert's father and mother. While the flag was established in 1888, the pattern itself came from the state seal established in 1648.
It's not my favorite - but the history is interesting (and original) - making it better than many.
It has nothing to do with the stars and bars. Look just beneath it at Mississippi or further down at the not so distant past Georgia state flag for real stars and bars hate.
I didn't recognize any state flags.
I gotta say, this looks more like the flag of some Middle Eastern country than a Southern US State, but I like it.
I'm no expert, but I believe every country that is primarily islamic has to depict the crecent moon on the falg.
That said (no polo/ no religo) the South Carolina flag looks sharp.

Dude, all you had to do was google "Saudi Arabia flag" to know this isn't true:
If the country of Mecca and Medina doesn't have a crescent on its flag...
Just visited SC a couple of weeks ago, and the crescent is indeed meant to be a moon, as it symbolizes a patch that SC soldiers wore during the Civil War.

South Carolina is my absolute favorite. Even though I no longer live in Charleston, I still rock the palmetto sticker on my Jeep. I do get some dirty looks from other Floridians now and again, but it's all good.
Maryland.
Many of the other flags are just boring seals on a blue background.
Shouts to Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Rhode Island though
How many boring blue flags can this union support?
best: Michigan worst: Ohio
A coat of arms for Lord Baltimore. The Calvert and Crossland families.
