Lol, I’m sorry, guy, but it ain’t happening.  UM hasn’t won a road game over a ranked opponent in 12 years, and we just lost to the team we had the best chance of snapping that streak.  @MSU is a 20% chance, @OSU is 1%

09/02/2018 - 8:13am There was also the play…

There was also the play where Shea got drilled helmet-to-helmet right in front of the ref, but no call.  And don’t get me started on the linesman spotting the ball incorrectly multiple times.  There was the play that replay overturned and we got a 1st, but on a previous drive ND was given a full extra yard, making it 3rd and 1 instead of 2, and on third down we stopped them a foot short but they gave them the 1st down.  No replay, extending the ND drive.

09/02/2018 - 7:37am One play that I can’t get…

One play that I can’t get out of my mind is a horrific play call.  On our first FG drive, in the 2nd Q, we have first and goal from the 5.  Higdon runs for three yards down to the two.  I thought for sure we’d run it three straight times from there (if need be).  Instead, we call a pass play with a line that can’t protect and Shea gets sacked back to the 10 and we end up settling for a FG.  That cost us 4 pts.

08/19/2018 - 3:26pm Umps have been struggling…

Umps have been struggling this game.  First base ump had his call overturned two batters in a row.  They were close plays, but easy enough that the announcers got it right live, and were surprised by the ump's calls.  The play at the plate was tougher to see live because he was blocked out a little.  Still, it cost Michigan a run, possibly two.  I don't understand why that play is not reviewable.

Correct, or transfer to an FCS/DII/DIII school.

08/19/2018 - 1:34pm I was saying the same thing…

I was saying the same thing while watching that game!  Idaho pitcher would throw one, maybe two strikes per batter, and Michigan players were swinging at everything!  I would have told my players to take all the way until you get two strikes on you.  It was a frustrating game to watch, from that standpoint.  It's funny how invested in this team I feel, but if you're a Detroit sports fan like I am, you know how starved for a winner I am!

Let's not trample on the grave of Hans Gruber.  He was long dead from his fall from Nakatomi Plaza.  I believe you mean Simon Gruber who planted the fake bomb.

You are exactly right. He didn’t say, “How dare he ask that question”, not that that would have been the worst thing in the world. He said, “Didn’t he already ask that question?”, which is even more benign.

04/02/2018 - 2:06pm We’re up two at the end,

We’re up two at the end, Villanova tries a three and misses. Zavier gets the rebound, splits at the line. Nova gets off a desperation three that banks off the backboard and out. Michigan wins 74-71. Beilein gets the championship he deserves!

Need Wagner to slip the screen if they’re going to switch, and hit him right away going to the hoop.

03/30/2018 - 8:24am It used to be at Mad River

It used to be at Mad River Bar and Grille. I remember watching the 2011 UM-Nebraska football game there. It was a great time! But the bar changed ownership and is called 5Church (the building is a converted church). I don’t know if they still show UM games. I doubt it.

02/24/2018 - 8:54am This era of Michigan

This era of Michigan basketball was the first that I have real memories of. I remember Ward being very underwhelming; he seemed to take a lot of corner jumpers and not be very aggressive. I loved Taylor and Baston; very athletic guys who could finish around the rim. Mitchell was a bust, and Conlan was average at best.
About 10 years ago, my brother and I spotted Maurice Taylor at the Venetian playing blackjack. Nothing too crazy, about $100-$200 a hand. My brother was a total fanboy and tried chatting him up about his time at UM, but Mo wasn’t too interested, lol.

Amazing how bad Rahk’s free throws have become. He’s releasing it late and just flicking his wrist, leading to a very flat shot.

Vic Law loves shooting contested 19-footers.

It’s really hard to hate Haas. I mean the guy is helping our players up off the floor during live ball! And he never really talks shit. Seems like a good dude.

I will say, I like being able to filter the video clips by category. For example, pull up all of the clips of our turnovers and see how many were unforced. Or all of our opponents’ three pointers and see how well we closed out on the shooter.

12/07/2017 - 10:54am Assist

I am in my first year as a girls basketball coach, and we have Hudl Assist.  The first report we got back I knew there was a mistake.  It said one of our girls was 3/3 FG, and I specifically remember her taking and missing a jumper late in the game.  It makes me question the validity of their breakdowns.

As a father of triplets who had to spend a few weeks in the NICU at birth, I say thank you for your care and attention!

As for the cherry wheat, I can’t get behind that. A bit cough syrupy for me. But to each his own!

I honestly didn't know the playoffs started tonight. If the Tigers aren't in it, I just can't bring myself to watch a baseball game. Maybe a game or two in the World Series.

07/16/2017 - 9:29am Here is how I'd rank my

Here is how I'd rank my non-Big House game day experiences:
1. 2010 South Carolina hosted and upset #1 Alabama. SC just flat-out outplayed Bama the whole game. Fans didn't want to leave the stadium, some were in tears after their biggest win ever!
2. 2015 [email protected]. My wife's cousins are PSU alums and got us tickets (we're going again this year), and we tailgated with them and their friends for a few hours before the game. All the PSU fans we encountered were friendly, didn't have a single thing yelled at me before or after the game.
3. 2009 [email protected]. The game was actually a pretty low scoring, boring game, but Tyrod Taylor rallied and scored a TD with under a minute to go and the place went nuts!
4. 2009 Ole [email protected]. Ole Miss was ranked in the top 10, and the Cocks upset them.
5. 2009 [email protected]. Terrible game, as Oregon rolled UW, but it was a cool experience still. My best friend is a long time UW fan, and this was his first chance to see Husky Stadium. We partied hard Friday night in the city, then got up early and tailgated with complete strangers on game day. I recall that the stadium itself looked like crap, and the Oregon cheerleaders were unbelievable!
6. 2009 [email protected]. I had heard great things about Death Valley, and so was looking forward to this one. Turned out to be underwhelming, through no fault of their own. It was a noon game, so the crowd didn't have much time to get tuned up for it. Plus it rained off and on throughout. And it was a blowout, as CJ Spiller and James Davis were too much for Wake to handle.
7. 2003 [email protected]. This was the Jason Avant catch game. It was cool to have half the crowd in maize and blue, and we won comfortably.

I've been to a few other stadiums, but nothing noteworthy.

07/15/2017 - 9:35am Thanks for all the hard work,

Thanks for all the hard work, WD. A couple comments/questions: 1. Our wins against Minnesota don't add up correctly, and our losses against OSU and Wisconsin don't either. 2. How/why is it that we have played roughly 2/3 of our games at home vs. MSU and Indiana?

07/11/2017 - 3:24pm I remember MLady and Q. abcd

I remember MLady and Q. abcd had the most bizarre style of grammar, that's why I remember him.

07/11/2017 - 1:42pm I used to post on the ESPN

I used to post on the ESPN Michigan board from around 2005-2008 I think. Anyone remember that abcd character? He Was . . . . U-Nique . . . . .

I had him for Urban Society or something like that around 2007 or so. He had a good teaching style and made it interesting.

That's the second time in the last week an alum from my high school (Mason County Central) has been mentioned on this board, after Maynard Keenan last week. Chad was first team all state in football, basketball, and baseball, and got drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays. Not too shabby.

06/10/2017 - 2:21pm I agree with those

I agree with those sentiments. When I lived in Columbia, my wife and I would travel to Charleston as often as possible. It always has amazed me that more people don't live there. It's got just about everything you could want: beautiful, walkable city, amazing food options, interesting history, great climate, and numerous gorgeous beaches within 20-30 min. I can't think of a place I'd rather live.

06/10/2017 - 8:51am I lived in Columbia from

I lived in Columbia from 2008-2012. I taught in two fairly diverse schools, and based on my experiences with thousands of students and parents, I could make an argument that interrace relations are healthier down there than in MI. Kids have friends of all races, and parents interacted very cordially with one another. I think the older generation is what many outsiders still think of, but I believe that to be dying out. Not to say there are no issues, but it's not the image that some on this board have of the place.

06/02/2017 - 4:30pm Oakridge would always roll us

Oakridge would always roll us by about 40 in football, then we'd win by about the same margin in basketball. I didn't play football, but I was 12th man in basketball, so clearly that was the difference.

Not sure, but I would hope so. He was in my uncle's class, about 20 years my senior.

Actually, I heard he lost by 70-90 points.

Too soon?

03/18/2017 - 8:20am Buy now

I went to yesterday's game, and we sat in the corner balcony. Not great seats, but you can still see all the action. There are no obstructed views. My advice is to buy tickets that are as close to the court as possible while still being in your budget. Don't worry about sideline or corner or end; just get the lowest row possible.

01/12/2017 - 8:52am Just consider...

To highlight the recruiting failures, Beilein and Izzo both brought in a 4-freshmen class this year. Our best freshman is not as good as their worst one.

01/11/2017 - 11:39pm This is that one extra year,

This is that one extra year, imo. Anyone can have a fluke off year (that was our 2014). Two subpar years in a row (which last year was), puts you on the hot seat for the following season. This is it.

01/11/2017 - 10:58pm I bought tickets last week

I bought tickets last week for this Saturday's game vs Nebraska. Would be my 3 year old triplets' first game. I'll trade anybody the tickets for a 6 pack of Dr. Pepper. We'll be at the Hands On Museum before the game. Just leave it at the door.

01/11/2017 - 9:46pm Our bigs are a goddamn joke tonight

It's a square pole, and we put the screws in the concrete. The directions said to dig a hole 36" deep, but we had a sprinkler line in the way, and we ran into some large rock, so we stopped at about 26". The directions say nothing of putting concrete in the pole.
