OT-Spirit Airlines loves 69?
This seems a little in my face-sent direct to e-mail.
We've been waiting to hit 69 planes for years. It's our favorite number – ever since we were twelve and found that magazine under our brother's bed (the one with the fantastic articles). #69 is perfect: just the right size, with a cockpit that's in your face (because it's bright yellow). Use your mouth to spread the word: Spirit is in an even better position to get you where you're going. $69.00*
animal porn on my laptop? gasp

All flights must be booked by 11:59 PM on March 17, 2015.
And it's spectacular.
And anyone who ever flies Spirit is a sucker.
Actually Spirit is PERFECT for weekend getaways when all you need is a single carry on. $85 RT after taxes KC to Chicago!
It acutally left on time? You are the only lucky one then. I've heard nothing but the worst horror stories of all time from them.
Spirit once and it left on time, but I was pretty sure that I was going to die the entire time I was on the plane. It was, shall we say, a fixer upper.
now, there are plenty of other reasons for criticizing them.
But, they currently ffy exclusively Airbus 319s, 320s, and 321s, with an average fleet age of 6 years. That is remarkably young compared to most airlines.
Back 10-20 years ago, Spirit flew a bunch of DC-9 and MD-80s, that they retired in the mid-2000s. But that was NOT unusual either. Delta just retired their last DC-9 in January 2014. Both American and Delta fly TONS of MD-80s around to this very day. Which is not a bad thing, either: the MD-80 may be fairly old but it is a very well-built and sturdy airplane. Perfectly safe. I actually like flying the MDs, they are a frequent airplane for the Dayton-Dallas flight I fly once a month.
As a pilot I hate the MD 80 and I hope they all turn into beer cans
Still no redundancy on that Horizontal Jackscrew issue. Flying deathtraps.
it's been 15+ years now since that Alaska flight, and it hasn't happened again.
I'm neither a pilot nor an airplane expert, but I tend to give credence to the NTSB report that put the blame on improper maintenance on Alaska's part, as opposed to the plane being intractably deficient and unreliable.
When you consider the amount of maintence done the fact that there are so few screw ups is mind blowing. I mean the fact that you have a better chance to die rolling out of bed then in a plane crash is says something about the wonderful engineers we have designing these things and writing these manuals.
I also dont like the scarebus either. If it aint a Boeing I ain't going.....
I mean, how many ounces would an MD 80 beer can hold? Probably need to sell exclusively in cold weather climates or invest serious promotional money into bigger refrigerators for liquor stores as well.
Planes are aluminum so to recycle them into beer cans could be easy. It's a joke pilots have....
Maybe a lame attempt, but I thought the sarcasm was heavy enough.
We fly Spirit from Minneapolis to Vegas $110. Just a simple carry on with whats needed and then I don't have to pay for the idiot that has 12 bags of pretzels and 4 diet cokes.
Never had a problem of bein delayed. The people that tell the horror stories are the ones that didn't read the rules and showed up to the gate with a huge carry on.
Bare bones fares are the way to go for the intelligent traveler.
Spirit may be the way to go for the thrifty/daring traveler, but intelligent? thats a stretch...
Is a full sized carry on and some peanutes and soda really worth twice the ticket cost?
Of course if you are going on a long trip that requires checked bags etc, its a different story.
But if you can get away with a backpack of clothes for a few days, Spirit is better. Unless you prefer to pay $100 for 12 pretzels and a glass of Diet Coke.
Yep, and even on Spirit I have no problem paying the $3 for a Pop and can of Pringles. Still saves a bunch.
seem remotley acceptable.
as suckers based on hearsay? If so, perhaps you are the sucker.
The last time I flew Spirit, we left on time, we just spent 10 hours on the runway when we landed back at DTW. Granted, this was at least 15 years ago, but it's the reason it was the last time I flew Spirit.
Maybe if you're 5'4", but if you're a normal sized adult it's the WORST
I've used Spirit maybe 4 times, and it's actually been fantastic all but once. They have some great cheap flights to South America that are like $400 cheaper than the next option.
Considering how much the major airlines are gouging customers nowadays, I love the fact that Spirit is around to keep them honest.
I assume Spirit flies direct to La Paz? Seems like an appropriate airline to fly straight to Bolivian.
They fly to Lima Peru and a couple different locations in Columbia. I'm sure they've added other locations since I last checked.
Right now is a great time to travel to S. America with the incredibly strong dollar and everything tanking pretty hard down there. Also Europe, with the US Dollar being pretty much the same as the Euro.
I think you might be giving us all a bit too much credit if you think this is the dumbest we've been to this point in the year.
Or, for that matter, the dumbest we'll have for the next 9 months.
mainly because I have the same sense of humor as I did when I was 12
This may be a little too OT perhaps, but then at least Spirit is apparently trying to drop a heavy hint that they would like you to fly the incredibly friendly skies. I will say, however, that very few airlines could top Continental when it came to throwing themselves at you in advertisements. I mean, this jingle for example:
"If they could see now, we'd like to take a bow
For when it comes to pleasing people, we know how
We'd like the folks who fly to see for a fact
The way our first-rate service will make them come back."
or no?
let's go.
does this mean that Spirit is ok with me joining the mile high club on one of their planes now? Cause if they are I might just book a flight on their crap airline just for that.

Nicky Hayden runs #69 because of his dad. The younger Hayden claims his dad chose the number during his motocross days because "it read the same when he was upside down after a crash". Yeah, that was the reason ;)
