OT - Reddit CFB Risk Update 5/29: The Red Army Approaches

Submitted by AmaizeingBlue on

Last night we netted one territory. We managed to take back most of Michigan from Wisconsin, but gave up a little bit of ground to Nebraska. Our allies are dealing with Chaos and some rogue OSU territories in the south at the moment. We need to hold off Nebraska for the time being until our alliance can make a uniform push out west.

Announcements:

The "Blue Alliance" has been re-dubbed the "Allied Forces" and now consists of Michigan, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida, and Texas.  If you aren't using the website to get orders, then please refrain from attacking any territories controlled by our allies.

If you are a relatively new reddit user, please check the game page to ensure that you are not being flagged as a bot. If you are flagged you will see a text box like the one below. If you are flagged as a bot, your turns will not assist our chances to win (although you can still accumulate turns so you can level up stars). If you see this box, then follow the hyperlink to fill out the survey, but ALSO message /u/bakonydraco directly on reddit to get the issue sorted out.

Instructions to Join:

To join all you need to do is go to reddit.com/r/cfb and create an account if you don't already have one. Next, set your flair to Michigan. You can do this by clicking "Select Flair" on the right side of the cfb subreddit. Finally, you can join and play the game at https://vote.redditcfb.com/cfbrisk.php

If you want to discuss the game in deeper detail and strategize with us, you can join our discord server found here: https://discord.gg/TcZBTcj. We usually announce plans of what we want to attack/defend in the evenings, but we discuss strategy all day. Be warned though, there will be a vetting process to join the discord as we have had some mole issues from OSU. Even if you don’t pass the vetting process, we can still provide less-secret instructions in the general chat so that you can still help us towards our goals until we can fully 100% trust you.

Go Blue!

Instructions as to how to play:

At the beginning of the game. Every team was assigned one single territory, and so every territory is now named after that team. When you go to select an action in the game, you'll see option such as:

"Defend Buffalo", "Attack Penn State", "Attack Kent State".

This means that we border the location that was originally assigned to Penn State and Kent State. If you choose to attack Penn State, you will attempt to take that piece of land next round. Defend Buffalo, means that we currently own Buffalo's original homeland, and defending Buffalo means putting your stars towards keeping Buffalo from being taken.

After you submit what you're doing for the day, just sit back at wait! At Midnight EST all of the picks from all of the teams go in, and a random number generator selects a winner for each territory. Then it all happens again tomorrow.

UF and GT owned the Southeast a week or so ago. I think UF was hit particularly hard by Team Chaos and GT... I don't even know. Hopefully, GT and Clemson can fortify the mid-Atlantic and Appalachia, while UF and UT fend off Chaos, Bama, and osu in the southeast.

It seems like if anyone actually wants to win, chaos team should be enemy number one, right? If OSU gets knocked out first, they just get stronger...

I was wondering this as well. I posted this question probably too late in the previous thread today and will repost it here:

Question from an observer: doesn't this game end with Chaos winning?  Assuming users stay engaged in the game after their school is eliminated, won't Chaos run rampant over the game as their user numbers grow if they are not eliminated soon?

I would think it would make more sense to ally with Nebraska, Florida & Texas, consolidate respective positions in the West, South, Texas & Midwest, and eliminate Chaos as soon as possible. Battling Nebraska right now seems kind of futile. Just a thought from a random observer.

It might be. A lot of fans might stick around with Chaos to continue attacking their rival, but it's possible that appeal could wear out with time.

I'm not sure its a massive assumption because if you are one of the few who are invested in this game, you might be invested to continue playing after your school is eliminated (the appeal is not just in your school but in the game itself). I doubt you would continue to have a 100% participation rate, but even if you kept 50% of the players, Chaos players could outnumber a single school's fans pretty quickly.

OSU isn’t likely being eliminated anytime soon, and without a coordinated effort by otherwise preoccupied allies on several fronts. They seem to be executing a run-and-hide strategy, and looking to establish a safe territory behind friendly lines.

Hopefully UF can handle Chaos before they cut and run, but I’m not optimistic.

Red team has lots of members with territories several (many) turns away from the alliance. The alliance needs to eliminate chaos, set a front, and eliminate the rogue states in our midst. Seems to me that is a lot to ask but if chaos and OSU continue to control territories in the east, it is a matter of time.

Each of the territories Texas controls borders at least one red team territory, so they could theoretically be eliminated in one turn. GT and Clemson are one day away from being in the same spot.

I'm not in the discord and doing any of the planning, but it seems like it would be worthwhile to spend some votes on driving a path out west. Having one maize territory that keeps moving around out west would force the Red Army to waste votes in its own territory and would increase or chances of taking our targeted territories.

I’ve been proposing this for a number of days. I’ve just gone rogue with my votes in an attempt to go West. I figure the worst case there is red sees their territories getting hit by a few votes and decides to defend in order to play it safe.

So few team left that being on the weaker alliance means we are screwed. Only way to have a chance to win is to convice a red to flip. Wisconsin would be ideal but the whole ticket thing.

The red alliance is in a much stronger position because the east coast has so many more territories. I don't know how any one individual team wins this game but if we can somehow convince a&m to turn on Nebraska that would be helpful.

I've signed up on reddit with the very original and clever name of CFB_Risk_MICH and could use some karma to increase my stars
