Figured they would get another year with this only being year 2 together, and all the injuries. They have looked pretty terrible, horrible, no good , very bad  though...

Stafford and the offense looked really good at the beginning of the season. Like, Staff was producing MVP-type numbers good. Then there were a couple of close games that broke poorly, Stafford got hurt, and the defense went from meh to total collapse.

The offense looked as good as I’ve seen since the days when we had Barry and Herman Moore (and Stafford is, shall we say, an upgrade over Scott Mitchell). I really want to see what they can do if they can keep most of the key pieces.

But the defense, Patricia’s “specialty,” is terrible. And the personnel management of it, specifically that out-of-the-blue mid season trade, raises a lot of questions.

Stafford’s injury makes this a lost year. I guess I’m ok with another season, but Patricia has to actually produce on defense. But everyone who’s mad at Quinn has to acknowledge that he’s put together some good pieces on the offense.

You do realize Staffords stats from his age 23 through 31 seasons are nearly identical to Drew Brees age 23-31 stats right? And that's despite Stafford having had worse OLines, running games, and coaches than those Brees teams.

Nobody is saying Stafford is elite or will be as good as Drew Brees is now, but he's proven to be a well above average QB. He's not elite, but I would LOVE to hear how the Lions find an elite QB?

And even if we somehow do find one, that still doesn't solve out OLine, coaching, running back, and inconsistent defense problems.

Patricia leaves an average pats defense and it becomes elite. He shows up in Detroit and their average defense becomes historically awful. Good thing he’s a defensive whiz. He’ll figure it out

The Ford kids didnt want Martha to spend money on 2 buyouts so let it ride, spending good money after bad. If the Lions fanbase wanted to send a message they could not give millions in gate and concessions each week but the fans wont do that.

Meanwhile Vance Joseph gets two years, Stece Wilks got one year, Hugh Jackson only got one year in Oakland...

I’ve not been to a Lions game in over 25 years that’s just me, but for the life of me can’t understand why anybody buys a ticket to watch that rerun over and over.

There was a guy on the Lions reddit who was shit talking the Lions about how poorly ran the franchise is and finished by saying he was making a 16 hour round trip to go see them at Ford Field.

Some Lions fans are mentally ill lol

Im actually ok with this decision.  I think its too early to judge the Quinn/Patricia tandem.  Obviously, this year was bad (even for Lions' standards), but I think Patricia came into a downward-trending team under Caldwell and still needs another year (or two).  If things don't improve in that time, then cut bait with both of them.

However, Im not ok that the team implied the Ford family had a succession plan in place for the future. So even if they do identify Patricia/Quinn as being a failing combo and are fired, we are mostly guaranteed for the Ford family ineptitude to continue for the next generation.

Back to back 9-7 seasons following 7-9...not sure how that is downward trending. Patricia has shown he is a very bad HC for 2 seasons and Bob Quinn has shown that his role in the scouting dept didnt qualify him to assemble a roster, or evaluate coaches.

The rest of the NFL is also fine with this duo getting another year.

In the dictionary there is a definition of insanity and a picture of the Detroit Lions logo.  I always wondered why there was a picture of the logo next to the definition of that word, but now it makes perfect sense.

The main problem is Quinn has had 4 drafts and the the only legit playmaker he has drafted is Golladay.

I cant believe there was a time Lions fans thought Quinn was a draft guru. That Jarad Davis/Teez Tabor draft was fucking abysmal

The fact he drafted a tight end at 8 last draft when our defense is the worst in the NFL proves he is out of touch with the roster. Obviously shouldve drafted defense like every damn Lions fan was waiting for him to do

I can sorta see wanting to retain Quinn (the Lions haven't been atrocious at drafting guys and have made some okay signings...I guess), but in what world is Matt Patricia worthy of another year?  Is there one thing they're better at now than when he arrived?  And beyond being a bad coach he also seems like a tone-deaf asshole, which isn't going to help your cause when it come to turning the team around.

The Ford family is not selling the team. The team remains a license to print money.

The Ford family has been infuriatingly conservative in its management of the team, consistent with its conservative management of its wealth. Why would Martha cash out a valuable asset now? I guarantee that her estate plan leaves the team to family.
