OT - Best Place for Burgers On Campus
With this being a bye week, hopefully OK time for this thread.
Looking to get some MGo opinions on the best places, walkable from Central campus, to get a good burger. Blimpy Burgers was a top contender, but it's been so many years since I've had lunch there, that when asked that question, I couldn't credibly give any advice.
Any suggestions that are more useful than my "Well a long time ago, the place to go was Blimpy Burgers?"

Frita Batidos. Get a beef frita. It will change your life.
October 23rd, 2015 at 2:38 PM ^
I second Frita's but I prefer the Chorizo (with an egg on it).
October 23rd, 2015 at 2:51 PM ^
I second this.

you can't second a second! i called it
October 23rd, 2015 at 4:35 PM ^
I fourth it then.. Also, i'd second the fired egg recomendation, and throw in a plug for the avacado spread.

I'm hangry.

Sorry, but eggs don't belong on burgers. Now peanut butter, on the other hand, does.
October 23rd, 2015 at 3:23 PM ^
I've seen PB on burgers featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
I've seen it listed on the menu of "build your own burger" places.
I just can't understand it.
I like PB. But I'm not sure I want that flavor mixing with the classic burger flavor.
October 23rd, 2015 at 3:30 PM ^
Meh, PB on burgers isn't terrible, but it's 100% novelty. Egg on the other end definitely brings something worthwhile to the table when it's on a burger.
October 23rd, 2015 at 3:32 PM ^
Speaking of "classic burger flavor" - must not be many fans of it on this blog, as not one person yet has answered the friggin question!
Peanut Butter, Chorizo... jeez!
Can a person get a good burger in A2 anymore?

Wow campus is really extended nowadays.

I love egg on my burger when I have a hangover.

Sorry, but eggs don't belong on burgers.
There is very little that a runny egg DOESN'T belong on.

You have to admire the first guy who looked at a half pound patty of grilled 80/20 beef and thought to himself, "You know what this could use? Something to add protein and just a liiiittle more fat. Now where are those eggs . . ."

But the neg bang thread is listed further up.

This. I lived a block away from this in law school when it opened. I definitely gained weight that semester.

Frita and it's not even close IMO.

It was a special last time i was there, not sure if it's regular or not, but it was delicious

I'm not at all trying to be douchey, I promise...
I think I may recall a thread being done about this sometime in the recent past. It's been a few years since I've been able to make it back to Ann Arbor, so I can't help you much on my own.
October 23rd, 2015 at 2:54 PM ^
I will search for that thread.
Appreciate all the replies; the person who asked is on campus and reads the blog so they will get some great suggestions.

Blimpie Burger is still where it's at (although not literally where it was anymore).

I moved from the area. NYC has a lot to offer food wise....
I often dream of Crazy Jim's Blimpie. Great burger. Service reminds me of Pat's and Genos Steaks in Philly.
Triple cheese on onion, with onion and an egg

I must be one of the few people completely unimpressed with Blimpie. Their beef had no flavor, like they didn't properly salt it.
October 23rd, 2015 at 2:53 PM ^
Agreed, Many places in AA make a simple greasy burger better than Blimpy(including the new place Hunter House). Didn't like Blimpy at all when I went.
October 23rd, 2015 at 11:55 PM ^
Better than subs, for sure.
October 23rd, 2015 at 4:50 PM ^
I agree that Blimpie is over rated. Honestly I wouldn't even put them in my top 5 burgers for the downtown area of Ann Arbor. I've had it twice since they re-opened, and both times was served a very bland tasting burger that ended up giving me a stomach ache. The fries weren't seasoned (not even salt). Some people say they like it is because of nostalgia, but it's not even in the same location, and doesn't have the same workers that used to work there for years. If you want to eat a greasy, bland burger because the name bring good memories, then go ahead. I will pass.
Best burger in town is hands down Frita's. Also if you want a good burger and a craft beer I would go to hopcat. Their burger was surprisingly good and I love the crack fries.
October 23rd, 2015 at 4:57 PM ^
Wait there's a hopcat in ann arbor now? how many locations are they up to now? The locations seem to be sprouting up like weeds now (I did appreciate they opened one in Detroit in the long-shutttered Agave space)

Never been to the new location, but that's exactly how their food tasted at the old location, like they'd never heard of salt.

Not sure if this is considered walking distance for thread purposes, but Grizzly Peak does my favorite bruger in Ann Arbor.

We used to walk to grizzly peak all the time as students in the late 90s. The mussel/sausage plate was ridiculous.

Ate at Elevation Burger and I gotta say it was amazing. Great burgers, great shakes, and great fries. You cannot go wrong.
