What this thread is for: It's an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

Don't comment in this thread unless you have to: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted (see: "cumbrously long").

Things we will moderate so hard that if we were the government you’d probably have a 1st Amendment case but we’re not so shaddup about your freedom of speech this ain’t no democracy it’s just a message board run by people who believe in democracy.

  1. Politics. Don’t you get enough of this everywhere else?
     
    How moderation looks from our end.
  2. Noise. We ask our moderators to try really hard not to censor ideas, but we do control noise. If you’re getting a substantial amount of downvotes we’ll look to see if you’re posting an unpopular opinion that you can support. If you can’t support it politely and rationally, or if you don’t acknowledge the holes in your argument, it’s noise.
  3. Useless content from other sites. There are a lot of sites feeding a lot of Michigan content out there, and a lot of that is good stuff. But more than ever these days a lot of it is just stuff which tries to tickle your fancy or make you mad about something. 247, WTKA always get the benefit of the doubt.
  4. The Drew Sharp Memorial Don’t Feed the Professional Trolls Rule. Pete Finebaum has taken the place of the late Sharp. Valenti and Chatsports are the other two on the ban list. By the time you have enough points to post an article you should know that some people make a living off of trying to get the legions of Michigan fans angry enough to click.
  5. Bewbs and general misogyny/objectifying of women. We tried one year of this and our female readership shot up after being really low. This means it’s a good rule: however much you enjoy cutting loose with the guys, we have tens of thousands of readers it drives away.

I'm gonna go through the people who responded to him so viciously too. Maizen wasn't wrong on all his angry takes he was just an asshole about them, and it was an invitation to making every one of those threads a clusterfuck. When people see the name itself it invites nasty argument and ruins any credibility of what was said. Maizen is responsible for that because of the tone he was using. I'd rather he start a new account randomly and present the same takes without adding unnecessary controversiality. Try saying "might" and "I wonder if" more. Anticipate reasonable disagreement and acknowledge holes in your arguments.

This is very distasteful.  May I suggest that this needs something beyond just an account deletion, if you are able to do IP bans?

Is there a way to IP ban this person, or is this something where you have to hope that this person eventually gets tired of creating multiple new accounts every day?

Agree, this person is purposefully trying to be annoying to the site rather than accumulate points. Not in it for the long game whatsoever and getting banned over and over might further motivate them. Edit: it's obviously another active and non-banned user's alternate as they've gone back to upvote all the inflammatory posts.

New account as of today. I hate that I even know this but his avatar is WD's girlfriend which seems to be a below the belt troll job to me. See comment #4 in the wrestling thread.

 

I find WD annoying and childish but he also produces actual content. This kind of trolling seems wrong to me.

TooBusy is gone for the moment.

We'll see what the next incarnation is, I suppose, but I will say this - as complex as the board's collective feelings are regarding WD, to go to these lengths to intimidate the kid is simply a shitty thing to do. Of course, too many people who do shitty things either don't realize that they are or fully realize it and don't care so long as their need to feel important is maintained. I suspect TooBusy (formerly numerous accounts) is in the latter category. 

Just report the next account here when you see it and we'll take care of it ASAP.

It wasn't spectacular, but I feel that nuking the thread is unecessary. The downvotes were mostly disagreement with the opinion and the methodology. The original post was not inflammatory and some reasonable discussion occurred in response. I disagreed with the post, but personally I think it should have remained. No offense intended to the hard-working mods who have to make these calls.
