God I hope. I'm still really worried with Kansas and UNC still on the schedule. I heard kids are met with a brinks truck and an escort the moment they step on campus for their recruiting trip there

I know there is probably no chance, but if there is any way Michigan can get back into the R.J. Hampton recruitment, you would think Michigan would have a strong chance of resigning Jalen Wilson and filling the gaping hole at guard right now. Hampton had some fleeting interest in Michigan earlier, and he is friends with Wilson. They both could be potential starters next year for Michigan in a lineup of Simpson-Hampton-Wilson-Livers-Teske or the sixth man off the bench if DeJulius or Johns make a leap this summer.

He was also a 2020 recruit at that time, and that was a long time ago before we lost our 3 leading scorers to the NBA Draft. The departure of Poole, Brazdeikis, and Matthews opened up a lot of touches for 2019-20. Simpson can't "run" the offense by himself (especially with the loss of Poole and Brazdeikis), and there are no other proven guards on the roster right now.

Like I said in the earlier post, I don't think there is any chance, but if Howard could somehow work his way back into this recruitment it could change the fortunes for next year's team. Kansas unfortunately can make the same pitch as their roster might get gutted this offseason. But I think the pieces Michigan has returning are better for a one-and-done guard.

No need for sarcasm.  It's a real question.  Depends on who else is interested now that the coaching situation is settled.

Are we likely to land three other late signees who are better?  Probably not.  But let's keep OUR options open and see who's out there.  Especially since any "commitment" from Wilson should now be regarded as empty air and worthless paper.  He could just as easily "recommit" to us, and then bail again if Kansas ups their payoff.

Even if you knew what commitment Beilein made to Wilson, Beilein is gone, so what does it matter?

He certainly had a right to ask to be released, but he doesn't have the right to presume that he can just plop right back into his spot like nothing happened.

JB being gone is exactly the point of your prior statement.  You took a shot at a kid who committed himself to JB and then decided to looks elsewhere once the coach left.  I highly doubt JB was sitting in Jalen Wilson's living room saying, "We would love to have you at The University of Michigan, but I want you to know, I'm bouncing after this season and you won't have me as a head coach.  We got ourselves a deal?"

Your statement speaks of pure ignorance and is completely unsympathetic to Wilson's situation.  He didn't ask for all of this.  It was dropped on his lap and now has to make the best decision on the fly.

Juwan would love a top 60 player join him and his team.

Coaches bail from schools all the time, and they never, EVER tell their players or recruits about it a year or two ahead of time.  Your scenario is silly, and no intelligent person expects a coach to behave like that.  So what's your point?

A guy commits to a school, not a coach.  There are no guarantees about a coach.  Zero.  None.  Any player who doesn't know that is fooling themselves.

And when you say that I'm completely unsympathetic to Wilson's situation, when I've just posted that he had every right to request his release, you're the one acting out of pure ignorance..

This probably means nothing, but keep Yak (who seems like the main recruiter for him) and maybe he comes back in the fold.  The offense will be different but not so foreign that it won't look like the one he was recruited for, plus it's an "exciting" move to get a former player with some national prominence.

Hopefully "??" stands for:  "I-I-I-I knee jerked my reaction and am recommitting to play for this great new coach and my beloved Wolverines!"

As a sidegression -

I really really feel sorry for adults my age or above who, through little fault of their own, are not current with today's emoji lingo.  Because YOU KNOW there's some old dude who got in really deep shit for texting eggplant emojis to, say, his daughter-in-law when he was legitimately talking about some eggplants he got at the farmer's market.

in which case I'd feel sorry for those adults because their kids and kids' spouses are eggplant-heads for not finding humor in that and kindly explaining the alternate meaning to their aging parent who should by no means expected to understand emoji any more than they understand hieroglyphics.

Who's bagging on their old man because he doesn't get emoji?

Oh I completely agree, but in that scenario it still really sucks for the unwitting party because as a society we're often prone to kneejerk reactions assuming the worst.

(With the blessed exception of the MGoBoard, which is an oasis of thoughtful, even-tempered and level-headed equanimity.)

We’ll see. Getting him away from UNC or Kansas at this point is going to be a tall order. If we retain Yaklich, we should even the odds. But if Howard wants his own staff, then he’s got that right. Regardless of whether it means Wilson is gone for good, or not.

I am more worried about Kansas than UNC. UNC is stacked with newcomers next year with 2 grad transfers and 2 5-star recruits. Kansas will have a lot of playing time to offer with the possibility of playing with his best friend R.J. Hampton. I wrote about it above, but I think landing or recruiting Hampton may be needed for Michigan to get or increase the odds of resigning Wilson.

He didn't commit to Michigan in the first place. He committed to JB. See yah ... We  want Michigan men.

So if Jalen asked for his release, that mean he actually signed his NLI. If Michigan has not yet granted that release and basically told him "hold on you will like our next hire" then his re-commitment would be in name only cause technically he would still be signed.
