Hopefully that ink isn't dry yet.

Oh god, I just realized we're going to have two JH coaches.  I estimate 33 minutes of my life will be spent wondering which JH we're referring to in threads.  Here's the math estimate:

Number of times I come across the initialism "JH" on this board from now until one of the two leave Michigan = 1000?

Amount of time it takes to realize which "JH" is being referred to = 2 sec?

1000 sec x 2 = 2000 sec

2000 sec / 60 = 33 min

Thanks Warde. /s

If I was Juwan and was getting this job I would have told my nephew to commit elsewhere.  Neither of them need a family relationship to navigate with a high profile coach/player relationship.

Seems like bad news for us. I would think if he was interested at all in playing for his uncle then he wouldn't have committed on the same day that its essentially confirmed that Juwan would be coach here

Hopefully Howard can change his mind

Maybe he wants to go to a program he’s been getting heavily recruited by and has been very familiar with for the last year, vs. going somewhere he may know next to nothing about aside from the fact that his uncle MAY coach there.

Also, I don’t know about you, but I’d prefer not to get coached by a close family member. Especially if the season starts going belly up.

FWIW, Juwan isn’t his uncle. They’re cousins. Your point still stands. And who’s to say whether an uncle is a closer relative than a cousin!?

I know several people have referred to him as “uncle” in this thread. Just wanted to point this out as a good example of people repeating whatever they read without knowing the facts!

if enough people repeat it - it must be true!

Who knows. Families are complicated. I love my uncle but also wouldn’t want to be his employee. McDaniels is a likely one and done and won’t make or break the Howard era at Michigan.

Yes, it’s inconceivable that a kid who was born in Seattle and has lived there his entire life would want to go to school at home instead of going to a school thousands of miles away with whom he has few if any relationships beyond one with a cousin who hasn’t been hired yet.

This is no surprise.  He was not coming here no matter who was hired as coach.  Any slim chance Michigan had before evaporated with the uncertainty of Michigan's coaching situation post-Beilein.  Time to move on everyone.

My cousins wouldn't move across the country to work for me, so I can't blame Juwan.   Especially since he hasn't been hired yet.   Seems like the fan base is pumped about the return of another JH.

Committing in the middle of the night is an interesting strategy

Also, Washington is a $$$$ school that I feel like people forget about. They've randomly got commitments from like 3 top-10 players in the past 4 years, however, Porter Jr flipped to play for his dad

So the kid grew up in Washington, spent his whole life there.  I don't see this as a surprise, and certainly not anything related to Michigan - he never considered coming here in the first place!  Good luck to him in Washington.

BTW, he'll need that luck in Washington.  Nothing like laboring in a mostly irrelevant conference where you'll never be favored to make it past the second round!  This is another of the 5-star one & done'ers that will not threaten the current order of high level college bball.  Which is good with me, because I think those guys are largely ruining the college game...  (A little Beilein saltiness, perhaps?)

Even if he hasn't signed his LOI, I don't expect him to come running 2000 miles from home on a whim because his cousin (who isn't the coach) might become the coach.

This timing ....very peculiar... his cousin is about to be named coach of M and he commits to W, as if saying his cousin carries no weight at all..   I believe him announcing now, was in fact related to our coaching situation... I imagine that Howard reached out to him letting him know hes gonna be the coach, and McDaniels said he wants to stay home, so they decide he should commit to W before Howard is coach, so it isn't viewed as a recruiting miss.   Sound about right ?  Otherwise, it seems too much of coincidence of the announcement now, and by doing so it is saying he has no interest in playing for his cousin.
