This will be the thread for hot takes regarding the offense and offensive playcalling.

If Corum, Edwards and Schoonmaker are active, this is a different offense. The running game took a big step back without Corum and Edwards, and the passing game was not strong today. Cornelius Johnson had a decent game, though, and Wilson made some plays. Something to build off and fingers crossed that our top three offensive players return next week. Hopefully, Corum returns in a similar fashion like Chase Brown did this week for Illinois after an injury scare. I really hope Edwards was held out as a precaution and is good to go. Stokes and Gash (great first down today!) aren’t going to cut it against OSU.

Why keep bringing this up over and over again. Did both players not get fair shake in the first few games? They made the wrong decision? How do you know that? This team is 11-0. No need to keep bringing up Cade and have others having to defend JJ or put down Cade. Cade had an excellent year last year. JJ has made it this far with a winning record. Let us see what he does next week. Leave it at that.

I don’t know about him, but I do. Always have.

JJ is a good thrower of the ball and a good runner of the ball, but somehow isn’t a good quarterback. His decisions-making has always verged on disastrous, and he holds onto the ball way too long. I would take him in a 7-on-7 competition, no doubt. But I would have gone with McNamara, and stuck with him unless he played his way out of the job.

JJ has always struck me as more of a tabula rasa for fans to project their five star hopes onto rather than an actual player. Hopefully, by the time he is done here, those people will be proven right.

lots of blame on coaches.

coaches don't teach QBs to throw poorly.

And the McNamara/McCarthy QB change has proven to be a mistake.

Not really at this level. Most of the coaching is from private QB coaches. There is a famous story about Mike Leach being asked by his QB1 if he was supposed to take a 3 or 5 step drop and the answer was whatever gets the ball out and accurate. Legendary among S Cal QB coaching industry.

That's a horrible take.  McCarthy earned that job and is the better QB.  He sucked today no doubt, but Cade did nothing this season to suggest it was a mistake.  We won today missing A LOT of dudes.  11-0 heading into Columbus and you think we have been playing the wrong QB?

It wasn't pretty but it was just enough. JJ was off on many passes and then there were key dropped passes. Missing Corum really hurt in the 2nd half.

I haven’t rewatched a game all year. The offense gives very few big plays in the pass game. It’s just ground and pound all the time. Happy to win, but was hoping for an explosive offense this year given all the weapons. I enjoy the film break downs afterward  because it shows there’s a method to the madness, but in general, this team on offense is boring to watch on the surface. Kind of like enjoying marvel movies more than Oscar award winning movies maybe I’m too low brow to get it.
