Hunter Dickinson and Free Throws

Submitted by Commie_High96 on December 9th, 2020 at 7:44 PM

So I’m dumb about basketball and also most other stuff.  However, Hunter Dickinson seems to be really good from the post and the stripe.  He also seams to have the body of a 23 year old big and be Teske-as-a-junior-but-better right now. I know it is *good* that he is large and can score and pick up the three point play after a foul, also he hasn’t yet shown a lot from 3 as of yet.  I’m wondering what people think his ceiling is after seeing his body, size and potential so far.

The way Dickinson is playing under Juwan is why Efton Reid should be drooling to play here. That old school style of play is exactly what Reid plays like as well and Juwan would have him excelling here.

Keep in mind he is 20 years old which is why he looks older and plays like junior Teske (because some juniors are 20 lol). Dickinson can hit 3s, but it's still a question if that will become part of his game. Defensively is where he needs to grow most imo

I’m sure he is practicing 3s everyday with an understanding of the pay day it will lead to.  Damn is he fun to watch.

Smart player.  You can tell his teammates really like him.

He looks a bit like a poor man's Jokic. Not a great athlete, but very skilled. Good passer. Just not freakishly skilled like Jokic. Given HD's free throw shooting, he should develop into a good three point shooter. He might be already - he just hasn't shot them yet.

The NBA wants players who can spread the floor and create mismatches on defense.  Dickinson is great on the block but hasn’t shown the ability to play anywhere else on the floor.  He may become a good backup in the NBA but it’s doubtful he does much.  All the bigs in the NBA shoot the three.  Not saying they have a high percentage of makes, but they shoot it.

I loved Teske.   Hunter is already better.   The ceiling is very high.   He could easily have a Big Ten MVP season in 2 or 3 years.

His body can handle more lean muscle, and a summer of Camp Sanderson can make a guy like that quicker and more nimble.

His shooting stroke is a skill that will serve him and the team down the road.   I think Michigan is barely scratching the surface with this young guy this season.

I love Michigan basketball.

Hunter has been super impressive; in fact all the additions have been truly impressive. HD, Brown, Smth and Williams have been big time contributors already... add these guys into the mix of the veteran players and it makes Michigan very deep.

I thought Hunter would be around for 3-4 years, but based on how he has played, it might be more of a 2 year thing...

Love the fact that he can make the free throws as well.

I'm very excited to see what he looks like next year after a year of our S&C.  I know he isn't young, but his body is far from a finished product.

I said I preferred his game to Walker Kesslers, to some jeering here.   To them I say BWAHAHAHAHA

His ceiling is definitely the NBA,but I'm more interested in his play as he progresses towards that ceiling. He has truly been a joy to watch so far.You can tell through his body language and expressions that he truly loves to play the game and also enjoys his time with his teammates . How nice it is for once to get a 5* that actually plays like one.

Love the comparison people make with Garza. Hope the draft nicks put Hunter in the late 1st round and he stays here at least 3 years. Love his attitude too!

I admit I was "OK" with Juwan as HC since it was late to hire but he is for fricking real and Go Blue!

He will never be a 3 point shooter, nor a long range shooter. The best you can hope for is that he can reasonably knock down the 12-15 footer, with the occasional 18 footer. It’s not a knock on him, he’s quickly becoming my favorite player, but it’s not his game. He doesn’t have the technique nor the rhythm

This is just a claim that's simply not true.

Shit, you don't even have to look that far back and not far away.

In Teske's first two years, his 3pt percentage was .000.

He ended up at .271. Yes, not good at all, but he quickly developed something that he NEVER possessed in his first two years in college, and I will speculate most of his basketball life.

Dickinson already has an NBA-looking stroke. He can absolutely develop a three ball. We must be watching two different completely players; Dickinson's form looks great already.

Will it be lethal? Probably not. But saying he'll never do it is silly.

I don't know why people have made claims on this thread that improving your shot is impossible. I remember when I first started playing basketball in high school (obviously not a high level), I could barely make a free throw. After a couple of years, I could hit the three pointer with pretty good regularity. And I don't have the access and resources college/pro players do.

He looks like a grown man. And he is, he’s 20 years old. Means his ceiling is a little less high, but I think he can be all Big Ten as a sophomore.

I just hope JH puts Dickinson and Brown in starting lineup. I like Davis and Brooks off the bench better. Just because brooks is a small shooting guard. And brown is a lot better at defense and rebounding!!!

We will be very lucky if he plays for us in the 2021-22 season. Making 90% if FT will come in handy. Also Livers is very accurate from the FT line.

The B1G season will be fun to watch.
