Hot bet

For those of you that use 5 dimes, not that I would condone or suggest such a thing, there is a prop bet for Lee Corso and his headgear choice this weekend.  Michigan is currently paying +475.  Wisconsin is at -1000.  Not often do you get nearly 5 to 1 on your money for a coin flip decision.

We can make this the betting thread for the week also.

I love this week's slate:

Penn State -13.5

Ohio State -29.5

Indiana +5

Oregon +3

Northwestern -3.5

Michigan -8.5 (although I liked this a lot more at -6.5)

LSU +7.5

FWIW I'm a degen and follow this prop (and many others) weekly. Just FYI, this isn't a coin flip. The movement and price every week on this reeks of known outcome. Dimes doesn't have the inside information, but it's very likely staffers on the production show do. Word leaks, and either they or people they know/tell hammer it. Best to avoid this one.

Murderwolf MUST make an appearance!  I'll be watching the entire screen for the whole show to make sure I don't miss it.  Somebody has to bring that thing...

Unfortunately, my googlizing for said hat has been unproductive.  Apparently, these hats don't grow in factories.  Dammit.

I get betting on the game.

Betting on which head/helmet that Corso will put on?  That's freaky.  The show is entertainment; what if somebody hijacked the Bucky Badger head before the game, and so with just a Michigan helmet laying around, Corso went with that?  Because what does the audience care or know about any difficulty securing an appearance by the Badger head?  (Although there will be a Wisconsin and a Michigan helmet laying on a table in front of the set, right?)

Betting on Lee Corso.  Lulz.

Immortal Lee Corso appearance here, as head coach of the IU Hoosiers.  By all logic, Lee Corso ought to be holding a death-wish grudge against Michigan for all eternity.  Thank you, Lawrence Reid.  (Nice flip to Lee Corso!)  Thank you, Johnny Wangler.  Thank you, Anthony Carter.  "Thank you Fielding Yost for that one."

I like Penn State, Michigan, and Oregon there.

PSU is going to brutalize Sparty. It's going to be murder porn, except my hate for PSU will prevent me from getting off.

We're going to win comfortably. Their secondary = ass and our offense is actually humming right not.

Oregon - home dog in Autzen in a heated rivalry game? This goes against what the numbers say, but I like Oregon to win straight up. They're probably better on the O and D lines, and they've got the crowd. I'd put more money on the first two lines, but I think Oregon gets it done.

James Franklin is 1-10 against the spread coming off of a loss.  Dantonio is 9-3 against the spread coming off a loss.  Line is inflated due to MSU performance last week. Fancystats have this line between 8-9. I would be VERY careful about putting $$ on Penn State.  I think PSU wins, but its MUCH closer then 13.5.

I think that State will play up for this game big time.  While fans have largely wrote them off, my guess is the team still sees that they have one conference non-division loss and are not out of the discussion yet. (I ultimately don't think they will be a conference contender but any hope they have rides on them winning on Saturday so they will come to play).  Their fan base has bailed on them to a staggering degree for a team coming off a 10-3.  They have been disappointing but have been without a lot of key players and there is a lot of season yet to play.  My guess is that they will give PSU all they can handle.

That's my gut feeling.  MSU will probably play better than many people think.  Penn State has had an extra week to soak in that loss so I'd still pick them.  But Dantonio's resting bitch face often fires up his players so maybe this one could be interesting.

Whatever the case, this game will be like watching two assholes fight in a bar.  One will win, but at the end of the day, they're both still assholes.

I'm all for wishing MSU sucked again, but I think people are over-reacting to the loss to NW. The last TD NW scored was after MSU turned it over on downs on their own 10 yard line giving NW a very short field. If it ends 22-19, people probably aren't reacting so strongly. That akron loss for NW is really damaging their reputation this year- somewhat fairly.

Yeah, I'm not buying what your selling.  McSorely would have to break his arm in pre-game warmups to not throw 4 TD passes in this game.  PSU throws very well, and MSU does not defend the pass quite as well.  No running game will be had by either team, so this comes down to passing.  No way MSU's basic, generic base quarters coverage keeps up with PSU in this one.

Besides, the one game left that can salvage Mack Dantinio's season will need some plays left in the garage just for that game...

I also think this will be a game where McSorley does damage with his feet. I know that MSU has a stout run D but have they faced anyone with McSorley's scrambling ability? Not saying he'll rack up 175 yards like he did against OSU but I could see him approaching 75 yards on the ground plus another 250 through the air.

MSU is giving up 50 more passing yards per game than McSorley, who's having a very good season, is throwing for.

On the flip side, Penn State will be the best defense MSU has seen so far (20th in S&P, 11 spots higher than Northwestern at 31st). S&P has PSU's defense giving up about 20 points to an average offense - MSU's is average-ish (62nd in S&P), but they're beat to hell.

Penn State is still playing for a shot at the playoffs. MSU's season is virtually over - it's hanging by a thread, if that thread even still exists.

I think Penn State wins this one 34-14.

I started my own rankings this year. For those games, here are my projections. I have 3 picks ATS amongst these games.

Penn State by 15.5 (take PSU at -13.5)
Ohio State by 26.5 (take Minnesota at -29.5)
Indiana losing by 8 (take Iowa at -5)
Oregon losing by 5.5 (take Washington at -3)
Northwestern by 9 (take NW at -3.5)
Michigan by 6.5 (bet on Wisconsin at -8.5 unfortunately) I don't see 8.5 though, see only 7.5.
Exact pick-em for LSU as having them losing by 7.5 (Not betting on +7.5)
