Honest question, what happened to Lawrence Marshall

Submitted by ldevon1 on

I never look at participation charts, so maybe he has played some, but I don't recall seeing him. Is he just buried, or is he gone?

I think it's been a perfect storm of:

being in the doghouse

Being hurt

And being buried behind the greatest 2 deep D Line in Michigan history.

I had him on the depth chart as a FB for 2.5 years...eventually, I too, became frustrated and just gave up.

And what's so effing stupid is...if he was the starting FB for Harbaugh? He'd have more carries and touchdown than he'd EVER have trying to stay and compete for time a RB.

Oh well. Hopefully he can find a role as a healthy backup LB next year or a special teams player.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if he and Shane head over to a MAC or GVSU next year.

Hard to say. Even a talented guy with potential would have a hard time getting meaningful snaps with this 2 deep.

We're bringing Rashan Gary off the bench at the moment...

Let that sink in.  6 games into his freshman year the #1 recruit (and by many viewed as one of the most college ready d-line guys to come out of high school) is coming in off the bench for this team.  That's.......AWESOME!

Pretty sure I heard he didn't travel for the Rutgers game. Harbaugh even said that everyone who traveled played. He's either hurt or in the doghouse again. He would have been in the Rutgers game before David Dawson received snaps on the dline... And he was seeing snaps earlier this year. Hopefully he "snaps" out of it whatever it is.

He got some snaps early on against Hawaii (2 tackles) and UCF (1 tackle, 1 hurry). Between the blowouts on the field and injuries to Hurst and Charlton, there was far more to go around back then. Not sure if he saw the field against Rutgers, but I wouldn't have expected him to play much in competitive games against Colorado or Wisconsin at least.

Odd to think that he and Malik McDowell were part of the same high school class, and from the same high school. I know many of us hoped he'd somewhat lessen the blow of losing out on Malik. Instead, he may not play a meaningful snap before Malik gets a multi-million dollar signing bonus.

He was a stud. My first time seeing him was his junior year against Oxford, and on the first play of the game Oxford ran a naked boot, and he flat out destroyed the QB. That same series he blocked a punt and ran it back for a td.

People were asking themselves who is this kid? Michigan, MSU, and Syracuse were all at that game to see him.

hoping Marshall gets healthy and ready to play.  Looking at depth at DE in 2017, we have Gary, Winovich, Kemp and a few others who haven't logged any meaningful time.  Would be great if Marshall picked it up.  Huge opportunity for him next season.

This season, Michigan would be fine without him because of having outstanding talent and depth.  Next year after a bunch of guys are gone is when Marshall will really be needed.  Hopefully he can get healthy and get some snaps this season to prepare him for 2017.

Agreed, let's see what happens next year where there is a clear path and opportunity for him before worrying overmuch.  There is a ton of talent on this current line and he's still only a RS Soph.  He has plenty of time left in his Michigan career and we've seen a lot of guys have the light go on.

I say we give this time before worrying overmuch about it.
